  1. Of all the couples I know, the gay and straight ones have about the same rate of having children (well, maybe not multiples - the straight couples I know tend to have more children - but I would venture that it has more to do with planning).
  2. I immediately thought of you today...lol. This is over on Kiam near TC Jester:
  3. I was in St. Louis last month, and noticed then (and times before) that a lot of Missouri plates are personalized. Maybe because the standard fee is only $15 vs. $40 here. http://dor.mo.gov/mvdl/motorv/plates/ http://rts.texasonline.state.tx.us/NASApp/...0&pltid=170
  4. Here are some pictures in the HAIF gallery: http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...um&album=34 I have video too, but haven't gotten it online yet. It also has the big shake on the first BOOM
  5. There is a discussion here: http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...showtopic=12207 I think someone will make it - for me, it all depends on getting up (maybe i can just not go to bed...!).
  6. Also just ran across this, just down the road from the Weber house: http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...showtopic=11112

  8. Neat! Fred Puls was quite a character... In a 1913 map, a Puls St. existed (currently the area at 45/10), but the grid was not in alignment there, as it (erroneously) showed in the 1907 map above...
  9. I love the clarity of the address, too. But hey, it's "going to be fabulous" once it gets all nestled in
  10. Yes, excellent information, Isuredid. By 1932 it seems that Mr. Mellor died (1518 Weber resident was Mrs. Fannie Mellor), and the Puls family lived at 1718 and 1719 Weber St. There were also Puls at 1908 and 1918 Chenevert (now some sort of warehouse/lab, near St. Joseph Hospital). Also, the Bartels owned a service station at the corner of Houston Ave. and Weber (now industrial).
  11. Were there any company names on the rendering? I can't find anything with that name at that location...

  13. To go with the thread bend, a little article about laundromats/washaterias: http://www.austinchronicle.com/mrpants/laundry.html I didn't know that "laundromat" was a proprietary eponym/genericized trademark of Westinghouse.
  14. Digging through some Sanborn maps pretty much comes up with the same thing as the 1869 map above... The 1885, 1890, and 1896 versions only go north around Johnson/Houston Ave. to about Spring St., the 1907 map just shows Weber in the key, and the 1924 actually shows the parcel. Does this mean the streets north of Spring/Ovid didn't exist then, or did they just stop the map there? The Harris County Block book for Beauchamp Springs doesn't show the streets (maybe earlier names?) but there is a handwritten note referencing a "Bartel Addition." Unfortunately the closest thing, "Bartels," only shows the area between DePelchin and White Oak bayou... Beauchamp Springs Bartels *edit* i found the block book (no help): http://books.tax.hctx.net/v007/001551.JPG 1907: 1924:
  15. The two recent electric and plumbing permits (10.02.07/10.19.07) were bought with the name Crostini, Inc. - so either it is a default entry of the former occupant, or the same company is still working on the space.
  16. Fannin Street and Main Street between Dryden and Holcombe Blvd. will be closed on Sunday, November 11, 2007 from 6:30 AM until 12:00 PM for implosion of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The implosion is scheduled for 7:10 AM. Inspection and cleanup of the streets will begin immediately after the implosion. The streets will reopen to traffic as soon as possible after the implosion. It is estimated that the cleanup and opening of the streets will occur within 3 hours of the implosion. Southbound through traffic on Main and Fannin will be detoured to the west on Holcombe, Greenbriar and University. METRORail service through the Texas Medical Center area will be closed during this time. METRO will provide Bus Bridging to transport METRORail passengers around the affected area. All drivers and pedestrians will need to follow the detour signage around the area. All hospitals and Texas Medical Center Garage #1 will remain open during the implosion. http://www.texmedctr.tmc.edu/root/en/Visit...a+Implosion.htm
  17. Before Allegro Homes bought the house, it belonged to someone named Andrew Inglet. This is from September...chances are it is the same guy: Local adult bookstore owner Andrew Inglet discovered as much this month when an indictment charging him with tax evasion was unsealed after his arrest. The three-count indictment alleges that Inglet, the 54-year-old president of East Bay Inc., underreported his income as well as the wages of some of his employees. For example, in 2002 Inglet reported income of $134,112 when it should have been more than $1.25 million, prosecutors allege. In all, East Bay deprived the government of more than $500,000 in taxes, according to the indictment. http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive....id=2007_4429385
  18. I have a few pictures sitting around here: Babies, just after adoption: and a couple years ago at Christmas:

  21. Here we go again...! Let's face it folks - there has been, are, and will be gay people everywhere in every possible description. There will also be those that make known their beliefs against it, try to legislate those beliefs, and I am sure hurt many many people in the process. But hey folks, let's remember to keep it on topic of this thread: politics, scandal and lies
