  1. of course. it's a (relatively) small lot for a tower. Plus why wouldn't they? What would they do with the rest of the lot?
  2. That's a beautiful building on that block. I'd hate to see it razed.
  3. No I mean the actual physical buildings that are there. Check out the demo reports on Swamplot: most days there are multiple demos of older, 2 story brick homes being demoed in favor of new construction. Or for that matter, the Hines residential building in the Museum District: that's a perfectly fine block that will be mostly razed. Oh, and even just today: the Caroline Collective: http://swamplot.com/the-singular-demolition-of-museum-parks-caroline-collective/2014-01-03/
  4. Argh, the skyline fetish! Montrose and the museum district would both pretty much have to be wiped out for this to happen. The museum district is well on its way, but I hope Montrose avoids that fate.
  5. Yes. Reworked. As in, as originally laid out, New York had much smaller blocks. The Olmsteadification of Manhattan was then copied throughout the country, including in more western cities/towns like Minneapolis and Houston Heights. (Downtown Minneapolis, which was laid out a bit earlier, has square blocks.)
  6. It really needs to be repeated that, even according to that article, the HAHC has a 90% approval rate.
  7. I was responding to the "less brown" comment. Bayous are slow moving swamp rivers. They have brown water. This aint the hill country.
  8. Midtown needs fewer vacant lots. That is way more important than some notion of a quasi-continuous skyline which, for most people most of the time, would be impossible to perceive.
  9. It's a weird mix of art deco and midcentury mod. It starts out dated and tacky. Which is why I love it.
  10. Wow. Ok that interior shot has completely sold me on this building. Not even kidding.
  11. Hmph. I am happy for infill, but this is the pure embodiment of unambitious mediocrity.
  12. ROW on Westheimer east of shepherd is inadequate for what's there now, much less anything additional.
  13. There's also a utility easement. It would be really cool to see a greenway/ bike trail put in there to connect the quasi-walkability of that stretch of westheimer to Memorial Park
  14. aw, poor rich white people have to cross the train tracks. with their feet, no less.
  15. I like Highland Village. It sounds vaguely Dallas-y, and that and Uptown are definitely the Dallas-iest parts of Houston.
  16. ...no. This has always been described as a collaboration between midtown and camden. There was never going to be a full superblock sized park. What we're getting is a park (larger than a normal midtown block) along Anita, a small park along mcgowan, and multifamily in between. If anything, this is actually more park space than was originally indicated. I'm particularly interested in the sculpture garden and market space along main. Hopefully the Midtown management district is responsible for the design of that, and not Camden.
  17. Yeah that building is great. I'd be fine with repurposing it I suppose, but it seems fine for what it is now.
