    email i received from their newsletter list today: PUB FICTION BREAKS GROUND ON CONSTRUCTION On February 9, 2005, we began renovating the 2303 Smith Street Building, which will be the future home of Pub Fiction. If you don't remember, Pub Fiction is the first collaboration of Michael Paolucci and Blini Hoxha, both formerly of BAR Houston. Pub Fiction will be Midtown

    We've got friends coming in from NYC this wkd - any recommendations on things to do? We've got kids involved - one that's four and one that's turning two - so we're not looking for the nightlife recommendations - more so the daytime, get out and enjoy the weather kind of stuff. Item's on the shortlist already: Hermann Park / Zoo Picnic day Kemah Boardwalk Gotta have a Galleria visit - though if the weather is nice, that will be short or avoided all together I've come to believe that this group represents some of teh best knowledge of the in's and out's of houston - so your help is not only appreciated, but necessary!

    Treebeards i s an exceptional meal - no doubt. I try to eat there once a week... Though i'm unaware of their evening/wkd schecule - i'd presume the only one that would b e open would be the market square facing location on travis...the others must be closed eh?

    I've noticed the same - many are inconsistent on hours of operation...some that i like and have eaten at quite a bit: 1. St. Pete's Dancing Marlin at Main/Congress 2. Bai Thai Thong at 401 Louisiana (Hogg Palace) 3. Franki's Pizza on Travis between Preston and Prarie 4. Cabo's at corner of Travis and Prarie That's a reasonable variety for you!

    I'm glad they're moving it simply because it's awfully close to the road - and kids may run out into oncoming traffic.

    Thanks for the data! I noticed that the exterior was green on the rushmore bldg...though the scaffolding is still up so perhaps that's not it's final color? The view is certainly less desirable, though I'd imagine that those along the southern wing of the building would have a rear window view of downtown...and perhaps those on the eastern wing of the building would have a blocked view of downtown. This neighborhood in midtown seems to be filling in a bit. Another note - I noticed a lot of bike traffic in midtown today...i like seeing that!

    The Camden rendition is quite impressive actually. It shows clearly a mixed-use concept along with open plaza types of pedestrian areas - it could truly be an amazing focal point for midtown. I'm going to be on the bike again in the morning with my son - to get a workout and enjoy the weather of course - and I already have a few other areas that I want to take pics of. It's amazing how many things you see when on a bike, as opposed to driving - the opportunity to stop and glance really allows you to find detail in otherwise overlooked items. Additionally, I was riding along pacific in the montrose and rode down this small alley like street and saw some unbelievable townhomes - i had no idea that such homes existed in houston - they are marvelous. I'll take pics.

    Checkout http://www.houstongasprices.com it's a real-time board of pricing in houston for gas stations - and you can keep an eye out for stations that you might want to fill up at...i've used this resource for over a year now.

    With the weather so beautiful, I decided to take my son out for a bike ride and we took a bunch of photos along the way. I'm using Ofoto so just follow the link!     I disagree. MidtownCoog is not an exception at all. Those that list their homes at a fair market price will sell quickly in midtown. The problem is that people are expecting massive appreciation so early on before the land is built out...so they price their 165k purchased Perry townhome at 250k...when in reality, they might be able to expect 200k...

    has anyone seen the artist rendition that's on the superblock along Main street (near tuam/main)? It looks great! Hopefully something starts taking root - the picture shows a 'town center' like area that would be spectacular for the area. I'm holding out hope that midtown will rise to be a star in the near future...

    I've noticed this same phenom on MSNBC and CNN as well. Houston is frequently overlooked - and my belief is that many people outside of Houston don't recognize/realize that Houston is indeed the fourth largest city in the country. It's part of the perception issues surrounding Houston period...people just don't know and don't seem to give a rats ...

    That was the thought several months (almost a year) ago. However, it's been confirmed to me by various real estate contacts that the building that's currently being demo'd on the block south of spec's is indeed going to be the walgreen's we've been hearing of.

    "One article on some loser who can't deal effectively with her warranty..." is a bit rough. I don't think anyone is calling Perry the root of all evil - but certainly there are arguments that they are not contributing to the spirit of an urban community in midtown. My primary complaint is that these gated communities that they build around the baldwin park area really isolates the community from it's surroundings. I also don't like the homogenized nature with which they build. These are issues that bug me and I gripe about them. But I don't think Perry is the root of all evil. I do fault the Midtown Management District more than anyone in this whole deal - I am one who believes that they should be a bit more heavy handed in how the retion is developed...but alas, that's not gonna happen!

    I remember that proposal as well - and the related article in the Chronicle. However, those plans quickly changed...

    Are you sure this is for the interesection of Tuam and Chenevert? Or are you referring to the location at Smith/McGowen south of Specs?

    I believe they are going to have a new playground. BTW...I was mistaken about the pond - i took a more detailed look at the rendition and it's actually not pond, just a bunch of more open space. It was raining when i looked at it from my car...and yesterday i walked up to it...

    Angelica might suck to the person who is more interested in the mainstream pics that tend to show at the 20-24 types of large facilities...however, to those like me, who enjoy the independent genre, it's a great place. 20-24 theaters is more of a suburban concept and i question it's feasability (financially) in a downtown type of price market. It's easier to throw up 24 screens on the outskirts of town than it is to do it downtown.

    I walked by the park yesterday to take a look at the project sign...a couple of observations: 1. The project is listed as one that will span 2005 - 2008 2. The cost of the project is listed $600k+ 3. The artist rendition appears to include a pond of some sort in the middle...kinda where the old fountain is now 4. The trail is pretty much all torn up 5. The playground 'jungle gym' is almost torn down entirely 6. The border concrete sidewalks are all torn up 7. The swingset is gone
