  1. The readers at HAIF seem to be some of the most informed Houstonians I come across...so I am reaching beyond the regular dialogs of downtown, midtown, development and real estate...and asking you where you have had the best Thai food in Houston? I've come to appreciate the various aspects of commentary that I value on this board...thanks!!
  2. H-Town Man...that will likely be a challenge no matter where it's built. I do believe that the evolution of the downtown/midtown/neartown area will take us in a direction where these public spaces get the appropriate use they've been developed for...and not the homeless shelters that they tend to become.
  3. I like the comparison of Bryant Park in NYC as it's far more appropriate than Central Park - I too surveyed the area and agree that it's size is limiting the projects scope. However, starting small is a good idea as well. Downtown Houston is not that big. Developing a green pocket which truly functions as a gathering space will be a great accomplishment. The key is seeing the project through - a task that Houston fails at so often.
  4. I only wish that were true! The new Collective condos may be doing that...and the Post certainly did a good job with it....but the ventana and calais are lacking in that regards.
  5. Looks like yesterday they started some demo work on the collective - and today there have been a bunch of 'suits' walking around the block...interesting!
  6. hmmmm....ok, should i replace it with THE warehouses? How about this: It's the blue warehouse that's on the block bound by Gray/Labranch?Webster/Crawford...
  7. subdude... yes, the price is the same monthly, no matter how many you rent... The netflix queue is the important factor in helping rapid delivery...that way, it's not like you return a movie and then select a movie...you just have a constantly running list. Netflix certainly hurts the instant gratification factor... My advice to all - sign up and try it for a month...the first month is free anyway!
  8. FYI...I just drove by the LaBranch/Gray location and there are five or six Mayflower moving trucks (tractor trailer size) next to that blue warehouse, emptying it out.... good sign.
  9. Looks like pineda mentioned more than just one thing... 1. Wasting 30 minutes in the store 2. Long lines 3. Late fees Three things that you won't deal with when you use Netflix...
  10. I do like the new CVS idea of tunnel/street. It'll be nice to see other entities do the same thing as they develop more retail downtown.
  11. Thanks guys...i work right around the corner from tha bldg...and i'm looking forward to some of the dust settling...it's been undergoing demo work and contruction for about 18 months now...
  12. What is the location of this project? Is this the one on the Fannin/Rusk corner?
  13. I haven't had a problem getting any movies on my list - and that includes new releases. I've been enormously pleased with the process. I was a big doubter before i did it.... Anyone here who has doubts...should just try it for free for a month. BTW...if you sign up through the continental airlines frequent flyer site, you can get 1000 onepass miles...for those that care!
  14. LAguy...i'm not waving a flag cheering for one or the other. I could personally care less, as long as I can still get my dvds this way. Bottom line truth: don't expect brick/mortar to stick around and survive. It isn't gonna happen. Whether it's BBV or NF, my point is that this mode of exchange is far better and has more survivability in today's market.
  15. That's exactly what they look like...
  16. At $20 a month - NETFLIX is the absolute way to go. Blockbuster and the like are simply awaiting demise. Brick and mortar is no longer needed to substantiate a video rental business. I've been a member for about 10 months now and I absolutely can't live without it! It goes beyond just getting the dvds mailed to you...it's about the rating/recommendation system that they've got in place for users. The interface is great.
  17. that was informative...thanks. so i guess the only concern is directed at the unsightly factor of having these tanks sitting on the side of an intersection... thanks for the science lesson!
  18. what makes me even more concerned is the fact that the city would allow such tanks on the corners with markings that seem to imply 'danger'...it's just all together odd.
  19. I'd give the benefit of the doubt to the engineers that deem it safe to have them out there. However, I'm gonna have to whine about the midtown management districts inability to enforce a more sightly means of deploying these tanks. It just looks like CRAP!
  20. I'm willing to bet that old georgie up in nyc has already got his eyes fixed on beltran as a perfect replacement for the aging bernie williams...
