  1. It's great to see this happening in houston... Let's hope they can knock it out in St. Louis!!! Is Beltran amazing or is he amazing??????
  2. Is there a standard purpose for such items that I'm unaware of? I've never heard of nitrogen being needed in the 'administration' of any intersections... curious
  3. Has anyone else here noticed that several intersections in midtown have these large silver tanks that are marked Nitrogen or Nitrous...off the top of my head, I've seen them at Fannin/Elgin and there is one near the Car Spa location as well. Does anyone know why these are sitting out there? I'm running some errands today...and will note the specific intersections.
  4. I'm definitely interested in being a member of a group that's going to log data about midtown. I agree that we should certainly kick it around for a week or even more...to get it right the first time. Let's build some structure around this - and not shoot from the hip. I love the idea of Midtown Neighborhood Association - i think it's wise to develop an identity that revolves around the purpose - and currently that doesn't exist in any form. I talk to developers and builders in midtown all the time - i'm constantly on the prowl for information about what's happening in our hood - in the hopes that i'll dig up a detail that gets me excited about the region. A perfect example is the visit I had with the Artists Collective - that was a great opportunity to learn about a group that is developing a project that is TRULY in the spirit of community, urban interest and culture. Yet, no one in midtown knows much about it. If people were made aware of these details, I suspect there would be a tone of excitement that we've been missing for a while. Let's keep the dialog running - there is much we can do.
  5. Let me be a little more informative about my purposes on this: 1. I'd like to develop a blog where a group of like-minded (i.e. live in the same area...or have an interest in the same area) individuals are able to log data and various observations relating to the midtown area. 2. The purpose would be to maintain a running commentary on the state of midtown. 3. The blog would ideally recognize critical attention from decision makers and influencers who can help affect positive change in the community. Let's face it - this site is nothing but a 'blog'. However, the idea of developing a separate identity is strictly for the purpose of drawing the appropriate attention. I love this site. I'd like to see it's power of idea truly represented in front of those 'powers'. Whether it be city hall or the managment district...or your local homeowners association...i'd like to see effective influence as a result of the dialog that we carry on daily.
  6. The more i look at blogs...the more i realize that this site is essentially that - a blog. I like the idea of logging details regarding daily observations...and there is always some benefit from that. I'm sure, however, that it could be done here by just opening a thread however... Maybe I'm just stuck on the cool factor of blogs!!!
  7. coog there is one outside of corsicana...and i'll grant you that there is likely a neighborhood behind it. I do use the lowes/HD at Gulfgate...you're right it is easier to access from midtown than the HD at Bellaire. However, aren't they both inside the loop...last time i checked, the Bellaire location was inside the loop... What does POSH have to do with anything? hahaha - i'm not sure that I'd consider it "POSH" to go to any hardware store. The idea of using a smaller store has nothing to do with eliteness...or feeling above another...it's just a commentary on the fact that home depots are getting rid of ma and pa. Simple as that... Posh never entered the story.
  8. Remember...there used to be a hardware store on Elgin (between Fannin and Main, on the southside) which is now a carwash...it went out of business a couple years ago. That was a great place - i used to be able to get all sorts of stuff there. The reality is, however, that these independent shops all fall victim to the walmartization process and survival prospects are extremely bleak. Anyone ever notice that you'll find a random Home Depot along I-45 in the middle of nowhere? The irradicate businesses left, right and center...
  9. Southland is excellent. While they might be priced a bit above the home depot and lowes guys...they REALLY know what you need when you describe something to them. They are very knowledgeable...and for that know-how, i'm willing to pay a few bucks. Plus, i don't stand in line for an hour to get to a register.
  10. I've been playing around with various blog sites and have this ambition to create a blog that will serve as a good resource for midtown residents to learn more about the various happenings in the area. Anyone out there want to play?
  11. Sad note about Ken Caminiti - he died last night of a heart attack...terrible news.
  12. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories...02/daily28.html when you open that link...do a "find" on "Fox"...it's called a Fox Sports full-service restaurant and sports bar.... But when i was there the other day, i could swear it said "Fox Sports Grill"
  13. Funny...i strolled by there yesterday and picked up a butera...was thinking about you! Main Street after the game yesterday was impressive.
  14. Wah Wah Wah....get over it. The Texans are here, and Houston isn't gonna let them leave town this time! The Oilers are gone...that's yesterday. Focus on the present.
  15. Fair weather fans never change their tune. Bandwagoneer types will always ride the good times and criticize during the tough times. It's the true FANS who will ride the team faithfully.
  16. I do believe that this project presents one of the best plans that i've come across in Midtown... I believe this primarily because the people who are doing this are NOT developers or real estate investors...they are not speculators...they are going to own, operate and run their gallery, art community and such from this structure...so it will have character. Character is lacking from a lot of the new construrction in midtown...sadly.
  17. Why they would change anything about the train is beyond understanding. It's simple and it works. Making it a people mover and integrating with metro just sounds plain stupid.... Why doesn't the city focus on solving real problems and address real issues...
  18. For the last five days, I've noticed trucks on various locations of the block drilling for soil samples...and surveyors all over the place. Can't wait for this thing to commence.
  19. The tunnel has more to offer at 12:00 noon on Tuesday. Try getting something at 3:30 though. The tunnel entities are shut down pretty quick after lunch...and I might add that I'm not aware of too many places i'd want to spend my Friday night out in the tunnel...
  20. September Schedule for San Antonio Conventions and Meetings If Houston could get 25% of what SA gets...we'd be in good shape!
  21. Am i correct in understanding that there will be TWO structures at LaBranch/Gray? One on the NW corner and one on the NE corner? Or is it just one structure at the corner of LaBranch/Gray? Either way...I hope that they do a good job of preserving some of those beautiful trees....they are HUGE...and some will undoubtedly have to be sacrificed...I just hope they can make some of them part of the plazas in the rendering.
  22. It does seem like Houston is somewhat stagnant. I can't help but think that much of this is related back to Houston's inability to draw it's own suburban residents into the downtown attractions built. If people in Sugarland don't buy in...then why will people in remote parts of the country be interested? For someone staying in a hotel in downtown w/o a rental car...the idea of spending a bunch of money to go to the Galleria isn't all that attractive...after all, it is just a mall. Where do they go? What do they do? The city doesn't promote downtown to it's own people and taxpayers...why not start there?
