  1. Calling the pound would be the appropriate thing to do. Trapping and delivering to the pound would be the appropriate thing to do. Those dogs were killed through no fault of their own. THey were being dogs. OK, they need to watch for bobcats, wild boars, coyotes, etc. If that had happened to my dog, and I was afraid it would happen again, I would build an airtight perimeter fence around my house. Not just around the property, around the house, where I could keep an eye on my children and my dogs all the time. A true dog owner first wouldn't pay for a frigging dog when there are so many in need of adoption, that's an ego need. Secondly, a true dog lover would never ever be able to kill a dog for being a dog. The owners of the dog, maybe. Sue them, definitely. But kill innocent dogs for being what they are...never!
  2. This is such good news, however, it is but treating the symptom not the problem. The problem is Stephen Williams. He has gone through four directors in five years. This is unacceptable. At the last meeting with BARC volunteers (a couple of weeks ago) he made it clear that he was upset about the leaks of BARC problems to the media. His next statement was that he would not hesitate to "fire" volunteers. His version of transparency. He was a liability to the current mayor and city council. He was not an improvement. Hopefully, this time, they will take their time, vet the resume, and hire someone that will reflect what the citizens of Houston want to see out of their Bureau of Animal Regulation and CARE. No Kill is the ideal we would like to go toward, but immediately, no unnecessary suffering. Fire the kennel techs that don't feed the dogs so they will have less to clean up. Move the staff that don't like and/or are afraid of dogs to another agency. replace the head vet who has a record of animal neglect and malpractice in her private veterinary practice. Vaccinate dogs on intake or prior to intake, national standard. Just to name a few. Hopefully, this is good news. But that remains to be seen. We'll know more once we see (if we see) what the process is going to be for his replacement.
  3. Isn't the Great Southwest Equestrian Center where Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi Swayze had their horses?
  4. Who the heck let John Mayer in?
  5. They had to leave 14th at Studewood (Fiesta parking lot) so they found a better location at 20th and Rutland. They are across Rutland from the 20th St. Kroger.
  6. I was on the F.U.N. drill team for the Shamrocks. I'll have to dig up an old photo. For some reason, my mother always lost my S for my uniform, so she would cut out a cardboard one and pin it on.
  7. MAM's House of Ice is on 20th at Rutland. Just west of Yale. Sorry OkieEric. There's a trick to avoiding the topic, don't click on the link.
  8. I had a ten day old, brand new Toyota Rav 4 in 1998. I was hit and the car was repaired. Ten years later I was in another accident that totalled the car. WHen they removed the bumpers, lo and behold, there was evidence of two bends in the frame. I had been driving a car with damage to the frame for ten years. Should have been totaled when it was ten days old. I just figured that Rav 4s always vibrated at 70mph. Come to find out it was the bent frame.
  9. Oh yes, they do. Maybe your friend's did not, or he didn't pursue it enough, but you have to ask for it, sometimes many times, but they do pay for reduction in value. I have received such remuneration as have many of my friends.
  10. I really don't know. I just felt like saying, "what a load of crap". Just an abreaction.
  11. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! sorry, it's the end of the day and I just felt like saying that, and this seemed a good opportunity.
  12. That's one of my favorite parts of that park.
  13. For kids going door to door, my safety fear isn't rape or assault or robbery. It's the paranoid people who are suspicious of who is coming to their door. Kind of like the folks that opened fire on the families that were coming back from the levee in their neighborhood.
  14. Actually, Houston Restoration Church is a provider of drug and alcohol rehabilitation. OK folks, you don't want crack houses in your neighborhoods AND you don't want halfway houses in your neighborhoods. Can't you see one as a problem and one as a solution? Support the solultion. Now having said that, I am disturbed by the trend of fundraising on street corners. When I see kids out there trying to get donations for their school ski trips, or other organizations trying to raise funds like this. Give me lemonade in front of a house. Wash cars. First of all, kids should not be navigating traffic at these busy intersections. Soliciting funds on a street corner is not instilling an ethic of working for what you are asking for. If you are a legitimate organization, grocery stores will allow you to raise funds in front of them. Businesses will allow you to use their parking lots for washing cars. A kid was on my street last week going door to door selling candy. Things aren't like they used to be. It is dangerous for the kids, and neighbors are suspicious and feel insecure having strangers come to their doors. We must rethink how we raise funds while teaching a work ethic. Any suggestions?
  15. No worries, I am willing to relocate. I need some change of scenery.
  16. I had several of my neighbors over for a cookout Sunday night, though we opted to sit inside in the nice cool AC. We almost once a week have an impromptu dinner at one of our houses.
  17. On Mayor White's facebook page I was passionately debating a guy diametrically opposed about illegal aliens and HPD's role. I noticed on this guy's info page that he had the same birthday (not birth year) as me and I mentioned it. He then said we should have a birthday drink. I thought that was so funny. He then friended me on facebook.
  18. Do learn from the developer on Arlington who tore down a perfectly good, not too long ago remodeled home to build a new one, only to find that the setbacks had increased since the build of the original house and therefore he had less property on which to build. He discovered his mistake prior to tearing down the garage. With the new setbacks, he would not be allowed to build where the garage is at all, so he has a big three story house with small garage. HA! Know your setbacks. The footprint you have now may not be allowed in a new build, so find out before any demo. Once it's gone, it's gone.
