  1. well it looks like we wont be having the draft this weekend since we don't have enough responses. I think we need at least 8-10 people to play. If enough HAIFers don't play, do yall have people you know who might want to?

    What do yall think?

I dunno, will all the members on HAIF, most being men, and I shocked at the low response.

  2. I was just wondering because we noticed Niche, missed Red, and i posted Musicman late, as well.

    Well Redscare has a thread

With over 10,000 posts Musicman become our third memberin the 10,000 posts club.

If we HAIF'ers have overlooked Musicman, is it possible we have overlooked other members?

  3. No but its a wave out there thats forecasted to become a hurricane and hit somewhere along the gulf coast.

Still no tropical storms/hurricanes yet and it's mid August now.

    Shocking.

If this trend continue through the end of August, I will start believing in the tooth fairy again.

  4. We have a 1963 ranch with a single, windowless door to the patio. I would like to replace it with a full-glass door. I want it to be energy efficient, but also solid in terms of security... I don't want anyone kicking or breaking this door in.

I really don't know where to start... what material door to get, where to get it, or who to have install it. Should I contact a professional door & window company?

Thanks for any advice. And feel free to PM me if you know any good people.

    -Sarah

Get a double paned slider with blinds built in between the glass panels.

  5. I voted for automated, but really.. NFL fantasy leagues, esp compared to baseball, are lacking..

if we were to do a football season contest.. i'd rather do a NCAA weekly pick'em contest.. but i'm not sure how prevalent those are

Or we can do round 2 of HAIFinance stocks.

I am game for any fantasy HAIF thingy. They are fun.

Is that tracking link still working?

  6. Thumbs up on direct stormpulse link... that website rocks.

I like it too, but hope they find away to make it a forum friendly size without the extra stretching of the posts. Must be tricky with the resolution already being set.

  7. So, I've been following Discovery Green for the past year plus very very very closely and I've noticed an interesting trend. The kid's portion of the park (water feature and playground area) is extremely popular.

I see multiple school buses full of children during the lunch hours. I see parents and their kids spending a bunch of time in this area during the evening and the weekend. Just think this used to be a parking lot and now the catchment area is largely children. I see the ice cream vans parked near this area because they know they have a market here. Common economic sense.

With all of this being obvious.........I started to think about street level retail fronting the kids portion of the park and I'm starting to think a very nice high quality Toy Store like the ones they have in some of the other pedestrian full service downtown's (or something like that) may make sense. With the current makeup of buildings here let's think about the opportunity here.

Discovery Tower- Not sure what the retail component is going to be but that is probably the best location

One Park Place- Not an option as it fronts the entrance, drop off area, and we know the retail is ear marked for grocery which is what it should be in this application

Embassy Suites- This could work, I'm not sure if they are going to include a large ground level retail component but think of the spill over from the park to a quality toy store type attraction development. Would be a nice and unique addition

Future City Hotel Site- getting a little further away from the kids portion of the park but it is still a great opportunity and it would have visibility from the new rail line (I believe)

Just thought I's throw the idea out there based on what I am seeing everytime I visit Discovery Green

If we can't manage to sustain an FAO Schwartz in the Galleria with its ample free parking and its destination as a shopping mecca, I don't believe any toy shop can make it in downtown with paid parking and inconsistent pedestrian traffic that can barely support the Houston Pavilions.

  8. Oh Yes - Houston in the 80's

    1. Oil bust 1982-1986

    2. Unemployment of 9.3% in 1983

    3. Dozens of Banks and S&Ls go bust

    4. Shamrock Hotel torn down

    5. Nolan Ryan traded to the Rangers

    6. Much of Market Square destroyed

    7. The Katy Prairie begins to be destroyed

    8. Houston Gamblers formed (what a joke)

    9. Sheila Jackson Lee first elected to office

    10. West U tear down phase begins

    Someone needs their diaper changed?

  9. It might be old news, or a surprise to some people. But Paula Abdul, an unnecessary or important part of American Idol, depending on how one views her, is gone from the show.

    Her Twitter.

So we are stuck with Kara, who is just as useless, but not as charming.

  10. Heh....I try to avoid selling on Craig's List unless I need to sell hard-to-ship stuff like furniture. The reason is, 9 out of 10 times, people just don't show up after responding to the ad.

I remember one case where a woman and I agreed to a time so she could pick up something. She never showed up, and when I emailed her to ask if she was still interested, she said yes and that she just forgot about it. So, we agreed to another time, and guess what.....she didn't show up. At that point, I was just fed up, so I put the list back for sale on Craig's List. When she found out about that, she got pissed off and yelled, "You make people on Craig's List look bad!" Man, talk about irony.... :-)

Great site, along the lines of mylifeisaverage/awkwardfamilyphotos/ohcrapparentsonfacebook/icanhascheezburger.

  11. A plant between Highway 47 and FM 2818 on Highway 21 is currently on fire and spewing ammonium nitrate into the air. (http://www.kxxv.com/global/story.asp?s=10819714#).

Most of Bryan is evacuated. http://ftpcontent.worldnow.com/kxxv/docs/evac_zone.jpg

If you see or smell smoke, you should evacuate.

    Estimated 80,000 people.

I expect hotel occupancy to be pretty tight in Houston this weekend.

And traffic on 290/Hwy 6 to be slow.

  12. Does anyone know where you can take this nasty stuff for recycling?

The recycle centers won't take them, but they suggest you offer them to a packing supply chain.

    Q. Is there any place in the City that will accept styrofoam?

    A. Styrofoam in peanut shape is accepted by Mailbox, Etc. They can be reached at 713.667.5116.
