  1. Yes, when it benefits those who don't need the help. Spend the money on low-income housing so less-wealthy people can enjoy the benefits. How many of these subsidized projects are even remotely affordable to the bulk of Houstonians? SkyHouse Houston Block 334 SkyHouse Main The Star Market Square Tower Aris Market Square
  2. Drop a ton of cash (tax incentives) on another neighborhood and it would likely be alive, too.
  3. Hopefully they jackhammer your house (looking at you, H-Town Man) and build a parking lot on the land.
  4. Ben Crenshaw was a helluva golfer, but I don't think he ever ran for office
  5. I bet if you made Chevron a good offer on the property, they would part with it.
  6. Sorry, I should have been more clear. The car remark was in response to the comment about public transit.
  7. No, I am just mature enough to realize that people can like different things. Perhaps one day you will get to that point.
  8. Just because I have zero use for downtown doesn't mean others can't love it. Y'all do y'all.
  9. I have no interest in billionaires getting richer through subsidized stadiums, thus no interest in the sports that are offered downtown. I have plenty of nice parks and restaurants in my area. I don't drink, so not interested at all in bars. Theater? No thanks, not an interest for me. I have a car. I don't begrudge anyone liking what they like. There's somewhere for everyone.
  10. Unless I get a jury summons, there's no reason at all to go anywhere near downtown. Nothing of any interest to me there.
  11. Look at a map of buildings destroyed in WWII and tell me where Berlin still has true historic structures. I'll wait.
  12. I don't have you on ignore, as I should, because it's kind of childish, especially when you bring it up. You are very sensitive about certain things, and it shows in your reactive posts. Lighten up, Francis.
  13. And you know what they say about opinions...
  14. Need to check those spectacles, sir/ma'am. That's a very plain and ugly building.
  15. Nooooo, sis, just laughing out loud at you.
  16. Oooooooooo, burnnnnnnnn..... Alrighty, ace, we'll see how it turns out.
  17. You're not explaining anything to anyone. You're passionately espousing your ideas. An "awesome core" would entail building affordable housing for thousands of workers who are priced out of the area right now. There aren't many people besides 1%ers who can afford to live downtown as is, so I have no interest in catering to that crowd. The CBD concept is a dinosaur that needs to fade away.
  18. Someone is a little salty about their little choo-choo going somewhere else
  19. I think you meant to say that the high-speed rail folks have made wildly overstated claims that are grossly untrue. Their numbers were pulled out of something rather less savory than a hat. I get that some of you want a magic train. Problem is, the money is just not there to either build it, or keep it operating, without huge public subsidies.
  20. There is a serious fight against this project in the countryside, and the backers of the HSR don't have the funding to make it happen yet.
  21. PR BS. That fantasy train isn't getting off the ground any time soon.
