  1. As a major coast-to-coast thoroughfare, I-10 is wholly inadequate right now for the trucking tonnage that it carries. Three lanes makes sense, especially if they could then restrict semis from one of those lanes at all times.
  2. That's your problem. I'm the one who has been burgled and vandalized repeatedly, always when I parked in the rear of a restaurant (inside the loop). Feel free to take the space I won't be occupying. Consider it a gift.
  3. Every time I have parked in the back of a restaurant, my vehicle has been tampered with. No thanks. Now, if they built a rail line that had a stop in front of this place...
  4. Interior of the bank from UH archives <img src="http://digital.lib.uh.edu/contentdm/image/standard/p15195coll16/231/500/320/15.051173991571/0/0/0/0" alt="" /> Also a short story about the demolition on p2 of this report -- http://offcite.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/1983/09/EasementDownTheRoad_Barna_Cite4.pdf
  5. Doesn't bother me. I'm not paying for the privilege of using this site.
  6. You're not, unless you live in Katy ISD.
  7. A true accounting of the finances.
  8. It will never happen, but I would be very interested in an accounting of how much all this cost. And I don't mean the "perceived" value of exposure, etc. Hard dollars in and out.
  9. Welcome! Glad you could hop on board from Reddit. Lots of great and knowledgeable folks here with a wide variety of interests. If you have insight into any specific area, chime in.
  10. Alternatively, those of us who live outside the beloved Loop may do so because we can't afford anything reasonably nice closer in. I never minded my commute when I did it. It was so nice to come home to a peaceful suburb, it was all worth it.
  11. In a perfect world, that $6 billion would get you about 60 miles of light rail at $100 mill. a mile. For something pretty useless to many people.
  12. Forget raising the fuel tax. Keep it where it is. Assess an additional 1-2 cent charge per mile driven on all vehicles in the state, and dedicate those funds strictly to road repair and construction.
  13. Putting someone on ignore kind of defeats the purpose of a discussion board. It turns it into a circlejerk of like opinions where you pat each other on the back and marvel over what wonderful chaps and lasses you are. You are all entitled to your opinion on this, and every other subject, just as you're entitled to argue with a differing opinion. If you don't want to hear differing opinions, I suggest you lock yourself in the airing cupboard and have at it.
  14. Therein lies the rub. There is no value in spending more to build something "nice" if you don't have the money to do so. I would imagine if some kind soul with a strong interest in preservation had offered the nuns a plan AND a massive infusion of cash, they would have considered it.
  15. Sorry, I just don't think $1300+ for a tiny studio is a great thing. But hey, I'm probably not their target socioeconomic level.
  16. Bright and cheery! I like it. Adds some color to downtown.
  17. Maybe the empty space between Eureka and Kansas?
  18. You know what I think? I think you're so blinded by anger right now you can't see straight. Just because you disagree with something doesn't make it wrong. Roads HAVE to be paid for. If you can persuade the legislature and citizenry that we need massive tax raises to improve roads, I'm right with you. In the current climate, though, that's simply not going to happen.
  19. Love my pedestal sink. Got rid of a useless vanity that just harbored junk and dust, and now have a sleek solution. Works perfectly! And I can lean on it when I'm tired.
