  1. Warehouse/light industrial perhaps? What kind of condition is the building actually in?
  2. Viet Hoa Supermarket My Hoa Supermarket Hong Kong Supermarkets various smaller grocers on or near Bellaire Blvd
  3. No kidding. I tried to strike out in a different direction and still ended up with post #4.
  4. This sealed my fate in the 5th grade...
  5. While I know the idea feeds certain urban fantasies, the reality would be more traffic and congestion inside the loop and a longer commute from the more affordable areas for the rank-and-file employees. Better the station be in the NW Mall area and let the employment centers be distributed outwards.
  6. Exxon Mobil CEO: Not moving headquarters to Houston http://fuelfix.com/blog/2014/10/23/exxon-mobil-ceo-not-moving-headquarters-to-houston/
  7. In the case of the Montrose sidewalks, I think they already existed, more or less, but badly need repair or replacement. Most of the suburban streets don't have the tree issue as typically trees are planted in the middle or on the sides of the yard and not next to the road. I know the city owns the first 3 or so feet of my yard as part of the road easement and would guess the same is true elsewhere, so they could put in new sidewalks with minimal technical issues. I'd guess they would run into neighborhood opposition from those who don't want the front of their property to change. Probably the game isn't worth the candle to the city.
  8. Those traffic circles are annoying. I like the concept (somewhat) but they look like they were added as an afterthought to ordinary intersections. I guess they do serve to calm the traffic, though.
  9. I don't know if this counts, but 3 or 4 years ago the Randall's at the corner of Gessner and Westheimer was completely torn down and rebuilt. I believe that there may have been some built in the suburbs as well.
  10. Do the HSR trains have to be turned at their destinations or are they double-ended like the light rail trains? Reason I ask is it takes some room to turn a train and that would affect a potential terminus.
  11. 2. If you are trying to pay attention to the idiots people driving around you so you don't get in a wreck, then it can be hard to get a good look at something. From time to time I find myself getting off the freeway to have a look at something I saw out of the corner of my eye while whizzing by on the freeway. For IronTiger... 4. I've found on major surface streets (Westheimer in particular) that during rush hour you actual make better headway by being in the far right lane. The reason for this is that most people avoid it because of buses and cars turning right. The buses are the only real pain as you have to merge left and then right around them. 8. Did you get to try one of the "instant merge" lanes where the onramp abruptly dumps you onto the freeway with not so much as a how-do-you-do? 12. You didn't leave it on the dash did you? I've done that a once or twice and had a device shut down on me due to overheating.
  12. I scrolled through the shots too and couldn't match it up either. Been a fun time-waster so far, though. With the talk of shadows here, maybe someone can make a connection based on the length of the shadows and their direction to determine time of day and approximate time of year and group the shots that way.
  13. Could also be that some projects are getting delayed due to not enough construction workers and contractors available to do all the work at once. A little slowdown might help ease the backlog.
  14. No doubt. Like I said, it looks very much like my own neighborhood and many others built in the same general time period. So, then, the question becomes...if a neighborhood already has the potential for walkability, but is perhaps lacking in safety features for pedestrians, what can be done about it? Speed bumps? Sidewalks along through streets? Does the city ever do that, put sidewalks in a residential area where there were none before?
  15. This is a long-shot, but since it's an aerial photo, can it be linked to other aerial photos in the collection and, with a little knowledge of airports of that era, maybe a possible flight path be determined? Could be that the shot is actually someplace on the edges of the Houston MSA given how fast and far an airplane can fly in a short time.
  16. If it gets you from point a to point b faster it does. That said, that sort of arrangement is rare in the older suburban neighborhoods I'm most familiar with.
  17. I don't know how things are now, but when I graduated many moons ago the first and primary thing everyone talked about and was interested in was how much the job paid and what advancement opportunities the company/industry had. I don't recall anyone looking for jobs with a "cool" city as the primary criteria.
  18. In a state-wide race, could be that a Buc-ee's endorsement carries more weight than ones from Chron or the DMN.
  19. I guess I must have a higher tolerance for such things, but my own neighborhood, the one I grew up in, and many others I've walked in between were laid out the same way...no sidewalks, a few through streets, some cars... and I never give walking or riding a second thought. Of course, I don't mind walking along the curb and on the edge of someone's lawn if required and I don't do it with headphones on and completely oblivious of my surroundings. I see people walking for pleasure and/or excercise with and without dogs and children in the mornings and evenings in a lot of these neighborhoods, including my own, so I don't think I'm way out on the fringe. It's walkable as long as you don't insist on a laundry list of must-haves before you set foot out the door.
  20. Same as they do now with the airports. Couldn't they just run shuttles to and from downtown (and maybe the EC and elsewhere) if demand is high enough? Plus, if it's the business travel market that dominates the passenger list, I'm sure there will be taxis galore waiting to whisk you downtown. Even during rush hour, how long does it take to get from 290/I10 to downtown by car? 15 to 20 mins? Maybe 30 max? And a taxi can drop you and your luggage right at a downtown hotel or the particular tower you are visiting.
  21. I'm surprised Atlanta was at the bottom of the list with only 3%. I thought miles of transit rail was a major draw for the young and restless, or so I've heard somewhere...
