  1. http://www.thatvideosite.com/video/3946 A little something to make Pineda smile Rosie O'Donnel was talking about Anna Nicole one morning, and a couple hours later, A.N.S. dies. Talk about bad luck, yo...
  2. I like Stallworth, and I hope we pursue him, but MAN would Rhodes be a good pick-up!
  3. That wouldn't surprise me. That's not an easy thing to go through, and I felt bad for her when it happened as I would any parent that lot their child.
  4. In other related stadium news, Real Salt Lake and the state of Utah (MLS's smallest market), have just confirmed a new stadium deal. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_5186530 It's gonna be a mixed-use development in the suburb of Sandy. Great looking design, too. I'm happy for them. It was a crazy rollercoaster-ride for the city and state to pull off the deal, but they finally did it. It's also expected that San Jose and St. Louis will be the next two cities with MLS franchises in the next 3 years.
  5. What are you talking about? He's created lots of jobs through military enlistment and Haliburton. C'mon, give George W. Cheney and Dick Bush some credit, yo. I'm not really sure what you're reffering to here. We've had a former governor-turned-president in office for the past 15 years in America (GWB for Texas, Bill Clinton for Arkansas). It's nothing new. Guliani was a mayor, and he's a front-runner. I think govenors get to much credit and scrutiny when it comes to their offices. They don't have as much power as state legislator. Even when Ann Richards and George W. Bush were Texas govenors, everyone considered the most powerful voice in Austin to be Lloyd Benson. U don't nearly have half as much power as governor of a state as a congressperson does. It's easier for you to be overruled by legislator as a govenor than as a President with congress and it's veto powers.
  6. I disagree. I think this will be talked about for months, should a legal fight over her money and assets come up. Also, there was supposedly (I'm not sure though) a paternity test battle going on over who the father of her baby is, and I don't think that's over yet. I'm sure you'll hear a lot of mourning from friends of hers in Hollywood, Houston, and a couple other places for the next few days, but the court battles may take months or years to settle if it turns ugly. Think about when her husband died, and how long it took for that to be settle. I think it almost got taken to the Supreme Court at one point. That seemed like a story that lasted well over 2-3 years after his death.
  7. Dude, she's at the space station
  8. I didn't see it coming either. Sad story. I think she just gave birth recently not too long ago, is that right? So what happens now? Her money, her kid, her parents here in Houston? Are we to expect a public legal battle in Houston involving custody and her fortune?
  9. Ahhhhhh shuky shuky now!! I'm looking forward to taking this direct flight in the future. Dubai's totally DJ'licious. I be up in Dubai, just workin' on my fitness. She's my witness! (oooooohhhhhweeeeee!) I love IAH, but I hear Dubai has one of the most luxurious airports in the world. What are the odds of someone doing the point-and-laugh when they come back to Houston from Dubai?
  10. I'd probably have assumed Arkansas a similar kind of state, but it produced a pretty good president, Bill Clinton (speaking of cock fighting). It may be home to another president too, since one candidate is Clinton's wife, and another is a Republican from Bill Clinton's home town. Most governors aren't known for their roles in foriegn policy; that's usually Congress-people and cabinet members. But Richardson made a name for himself as one who was more directly involved, and as a result, he has just as much knowledge in the foriegn-arena as many in Washington. That could be a strong point for him. He could even make a great Vice-President for Clinton or Obama if either one were to win the Democratic ticket. Many on both sides (Rep and Dem) like him. I predict that the primaries will be more of a popularity contest within each party, and the presidential votes from the people will be more for the issues than a popular name. If Richardson were to win the Democratic ticket, he'd have just as good a chance at winning as Clinton, Obama, McCain, or Guliani. But I just can't see him winning the Democratic ticket. His name is just not as popular and known to the American public as the two Democrats I mentioned.
  11. I wanna see a 24-hour Starbucks on the Main Street strip. 2-story, too...
  12. I think Richardson would make a great president, but I just can't see him winning the primaries over people like Clinton and Obama. He ahs a pretty good history when it comes to foriegn relations, UN peace talks, and being a voice in international negotiations, which impressed me seeing that he's governor of New Mexico; a state that normally doesn't make political news. I could see him as a cabinet member should a Democrat or McCain win.
  13. Simple. Be Houston I agree. Biggest thing though is this: these Downtown construction projects, Astroworld, and the Astrodome renovation, would all have to be completed before that Super Bowl year. Kinda like Dallas; Victory Park will be completed well before 2011. Perhaps that would be where Dallas would want their festivities to be. My guess with the Metroplex is that it would be very different from Houston when it comes to hosting a Super Bowl. We had our main party on Main Street, with all areas in and around Houston seeing a tourist boom and filled up hotels from north to south. Metroplex would probably have the same hotel boom, but I just can't see them having one party spot. I can imagine Fort Worth, Dallas, Arlington, and Irving all wanting to cash in by having a party plaza per-city. It could end up a really sprawled event.
  14. I agree. Wortham would be a great place for a soccer complex (without the actual stadium), downsized golf course, and baseball fields. I think the primary focus from East End's residence would be the question of how the Wortham location could most benefit East End, and I would imagine that would be the best bet. Downtown would be awesome for soccer matches, but I would imagine the land costs to be high. I think the team and city should put more money on the infrastructure than the land within Downtown. Warehouse District (across from MMP/59) Should be pushed by the city. Have it connected to the Wortham site. It's the most professional and most logical location. The stadium could have much higher attendance and significance there than any suburb. It would have two major parks within proximity; The Wortham site, and the new Downtown park. If I were them, here's what I would do: -Lower the stadium below ground level to cut infrastructure costs -Build a glass roof over the seats as an amenity to make the stadium mixed-use for concerts and such without weather being a factor. That way, the stadium could be an alternative to Toyota Center for concerts if it becomes home to the NHL. I would suggest a retractable roof, but it would seriously higher the cost. Here's what I'm thinkin' of: -I would still design the stadium so it had a great view of the Houston skyline at a goal-zone, because the view is priceless. -Instead of the city spending a lot of money on the stadium itself, ask for tax-exeptions instead of funding the stadium itself, and ask the city to use the saved money to put it into the community around the stadium (ie. mixed-use developments around the stadium, schools, roads, the Wortham soccer complex, etc.) That way, the land on the stadium would rise in appreciation, and should the league not succeed or the team want to move in another 20-30 years, the city/team could sell the land. -Make it between 30-35,000 seats (all together including the suites, club boxes, etc.). We'd have the market and proximity to sell-out with the sport growing as it is. They averaged a little over 18,000 last season, and that was before Beckham signed, SuperLiga was announced, the 19 nationally televised game, the championship, and the number of players we have being named to three national teams (America, Canada, and Venezuela). BTW, I found this on bigsoccer.com... This may be the plans for the old Astroworld site. Probably no longer considered as a stadium home. Reliant Park itself, however, may still be in discussion.
  15. Here's the national tv schedule... http://web.mlsnet.com/mls/schedule/2007/national_tv/ Dynamo's on 19 nationally televised regular season games. Chances are that ABC may cover Superliga this Summer, and ESPN/ESPN 2 may cover the end of the U.S. Open Cup. Also, I think the locally televised games may be on TV 51
  16. Some new stadium news from the Houston Chronicle... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4532429.html The two major possibilities for the new stadium location would be Gus Wortham Park, or in/around Downtown. IMO, both are great plans. More people would probably utilize the soccer facilities on Gus Wortham than the amount of people currently playing golf there. In/around Downtown would also be perfect, though their practice field could probably be another location. I hope the golfers there don't make too big a deal on that deal, because that community would SERIOUSLY benefit more with the stadium there than the golf course that not too many that live around there utilize. Like I've said before, I'm down with the revitalization of East End and Warehouse District, stadium or no stadium. Warehouse District stands out to me as the place where they should pursue, but Gus Wortham would be great too.
  17. I'm hoping they stick with the 4-4-2 setup this year, even against Beckham. We gotta stay on the offensive no matter what.
  18. Yo, I'm not too aware of the Metroplex's party areas. Where do you think the two-week pre-Bowl festivities would be held?
  19. The full schedule was finally released today. Here's the 411... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4530228.html The schedule of games is as follows (all times CT): Sunday, April 8 LOS ANGELES 6:00 PM Saturday, April 14 CHIVAS USA 7:30 PM Saturday, April 21 @ New York 6:30 PM Sunday, April 29 CHICAGO 6:00 PM Saturday, May 5 @ Colorado 8:30 PM Wednesday, May 16 @ Toronto FC 6:00 PM Saturday, May 19 NEW ENGLAND 7:30 PM Saturday, May 26 @ DC United 6:30 PM Sunday, June 3 FC DALLAS 4:00 PM Thursday, June 7 COLORADO 8:00 PM Sunday, June 10 @ Columbus 4:00 PM Thursday, June 21 CHIVAS USA 8:00 PM Sunday, June 24 @ Kansas City 4:00 PM Saturday, June 30 @ FC Dallas 5:00 PM Thursday, July 5 NEW YORK 7:00 PM Sunday, July 8 DC UNITED 7:30 PM Thursday, July 12 @ Chicago 8:00 PM Sunday, July 15 TORONTO 7:30 PM Sunday, July 22 @ New England 3:00 PM Saturday, August 4 @ Real Salt Lake 8:00 PM Saturday, August 11 @ Colorado 8:00 PM Sunday, August 19 FC DALLAS 6:00 PM Saturday, August 25 COLUMBUS 7:30 PM Saturday, Sept. 1 KANSAS CITY 7:30 PM Saturday, Sept. 8 REAL SALT LAKE 7:30 PM Sunday, Sept. 16 @ Los Angeles 7:00 PM Sunday, Sept. 30 @ FC Dallas 2:00 PM Sunday, Oct. 7 LOS ANGELES 2:00 PM Saturday, Oct. 13 @ Real Salt Lake 7:00 PM Saturday, Oct. 20 @ Chivas USA 9:30 PM In addition to the MLS schedule, the Dynamo will compete in three other competitions in 2007. They will participate in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and SuperLiga. Our core team's back with Canadian MVP De Rosario, and of course our national team member Ching, Clark, Davis, and a few others. Beckham's coming to town October 7th, which will probably be the first time ever that a soccer match was a hotter ticket than an NFL game on a Sunday. Not to mention the fact that we're in Superliga this year, plus the fact that the league will be nationally televised on four major networks this year (Univision for the first time this year), Houston's gonna get some MAD airtime this year. If there were ever a time to win the MLS Cup, the time would be now:) P.S. The All Star Game will be in Denver, and MLS Cup 2007 will be at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C.
  20. Actually, yeah. Word on the street has it that the big viewing party will be at the Mezzanine on 59 and S. Shepard. I can't decide if I'm going there or one of the Alief house parties for the game, but I think Mezzanine will be one of the biggest public viewing parties tommorow.
  21. I don't think Guliani is a sure bet for NY if facing Obama and Clinton. For GOP, yes, because I think his 9-11 response will be the key element, and he's the hometown guy. But for President, no. I think it will still come down to the issues, and what he plans to do in the future rather than his past. The question will also be asked how NYC saw Guliani prior to 9-11. In the end, that will become irrelevant also. Iraq as it is today wasn't going on when he was mayor, so his opinion about America's Iraq stance present-day will be closely watched by voters, as it will be with the Democratic GOP. Things like this piss me off royally. I can't believe I'm hearing this in the 21st century. It's not you, Nmainguy; it's America's taboo with a person that's not a white-Christian-man being in office. But statements like "Obama may have studied Islam", "Romney's not a Christian", and "I'm not sure if Hilary is a man or a woman" or whatever just scares me. Is America still prejudice? Once again, I'm not knocking on anyone in particular here on HAIF, I'm just asking a question. Are Americans really scared of the thought of having a President that's a woman, black, hispanic, asian, jewish, muslim, etc.? Have we not gotten past that yet?
  22. How anyone could consider coal in the 21st century for energy is beyond me. U've gotta be the dumbest dude in the world to endorse something so obsolete when we've figured out how to use hydro-electricity, solar power, wind turbines, etc. If we're not careful, other countries will pass us by in powerful environment-friendly power.
  23. Got some in da microwave, yo Yo Next of Kin, I think after Pavillions begins construction, we may see a spark of other developments around that particular area. Until then, developers seem to be taking a wait-and-see approach with Downtown until construction begins on that project.
  24. I'm Independant, but I'll say this: The Republicans will take anyone in 2008 that can give them a shot at winning the GOP regardless of how much they agree with them. So long as Guliani's not Democrat, they don't care, yo. Bush's approval ratings are still mad low, and two big-name politicians may be representing the Democrats in the '08 GOP (Clinton and Obama). Perfect example: John McCain. He's ran for the Republican GOP more times than Dan Quayle running for chairman of the Spellling Comiteee. He's NEVER had a shot at winning that office because of his bipartisan style, and other big-name Republicans with a stronger Convervative approach would always have McCain in 3rd or 4th place in primaries across the states. He hasn't changed, yet all of a sudden, if Guliani doesn't run, McCain would be the biggest-name running for the Republican spot. It's all about conformity, yo. May the best man or woman married to a man that other women love win...
  25. Tampa's a toss-up. It depends on how they do in 2009. The fact that they won surprised everyone, but once again, politics. Arlington has a possibility, but there's so many new stadiums being built that there's no telling who will host next decade...
