  1. We need a QB that Kubiak is confident in taking risky plays with. If he has confidence in Carr, he needs to show it with his play calls. If not, there's nothing we can do with Carr as QB and Kubiak as coach at the same time. I'm still referring to the Titans game. Didn't bother to watch the Patriots game. I turned it on for 5 seconds in the 2nd quarter and saw the score was 20-0, and knew everything I needed to know about the Texan's season.
  2. The fact that the Titans are still in playoff contention is the point...
  3. Not to offend those tired of hearing about Willams/Bush/Young, but the Saints earlier today clinched a playoff spot (even though they lost). The Titans won today and are 7-7, and their playoff hopes are very much alive since they beat the Jaguars. The Texans are, um, at the bottom of their division Only good thing though is that we're twice as good as we were last season
  4. Demeco Ryans seems to have made a bigger impact this season than Mario Williams. Is that a fair statement?
  5. I say oye oye oye to that as well. Using strategy. I like that. What I didn't understand was why there was no strategy used in 2006's draft. Williams would NOT have been the first pick if the Texans traded down. We could have had more talent while picking up Williams if we were so sure he would have made a bigger impact than Bush or Young.
  6. The only starting QB I could see te Texans go after is Plummer. After that, none. Perhaps in round 3 or 4, the Texans could go after another backup QB to groom, but the Texans have needs other than QB that need to be improved immediately. Drafting a new starting QB now will mean doing the same thing we're currently doing with Williams; teaching him the ropes so that 3-4 years from now, he'll be great (that's the idea, but we'll have 2 wait until then to see if his drafting over Young and Bush were worth it). THE TEXANS DON'T HAVE TIME TO WAIT THAT LONG. They need some new bodies that can help the Texans become a .500 team NEXT year. Perhaps another DL in the 2nd round. Perhaps a CONSISTANTLY PROVEN OL or CONSISTANTLY PROVEN RB in the 1st round like Peterson if he were still available. But the Texans don't have another year to "build". They need a playoff-possible record if they want to remain in the top 5 highest-worth teams in the NFL (a couple years ago, they were #2. Now they're #4). That doesn't mean much to some, but that's the ONLY positive thing the Texans are in the top 5 in right now
  7. We need a base runner somewhere in the line-up. Giving up Tavaras is like when we gave up Kenny Lofton...
  8. When will the Astros be capable of being able to sign a star with Ichiro's caliber from Japan/Korea like the Yankees, Mariners, and Red Sox have? At least a prospect?
  9. It depends. Are there any Vince Youngs or Reggie Bushes available in 2007's draft?
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2695473 Check this out. Jennings is in the final year of his contract. They better extend his contract now, or this trade will leave SERIOUS eggs on faces, yo.
  11. The Astrodome will alwayz be the "House Of Pain". I wanna see Reliant Stadium become "The Nutcracker Suite". Pop 'em like a Pringle. Drop 'em like a Lawsuit. Hit 'em as if Simpson were Aquitted. Werd!
  12. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4397260.html Taveras alone was worth both Jennings and Miguel Ascencio.
  13. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4395210.html Man, the Chronicle has been coming down HARD on Carr from the Titans game. Like I said before though, Carr played a good game, and didn't in anyway contribute to the loss. He did his job, and that's all Kubiak could ask for. That being said, I can't remember the last time I've ever heard the word "hopeless" to describe a local team in an article on any Texas sport. Not even when the Texans went 2-14 last season, because Bush and Young could have been drafted. What Young did against the Texans in overtime was no fluke. He did that same thing throughout his championship season in Texas. Regardless of what anyone says, regardless of who he plays for, because of what he helped do with the Longhorns, Vince Young already is a Texas sports legend. No question. Now people need to stop blaming Carr, and start deciding how to return morale to the Texans. Changing the QB won't do it, because the chance to draft Young has come and gone. I think Carr and Williams still have potential, though we're all tired of the word "potential", and want to hear "legendary". Their line still needs help, but they will get better. For the Texans to get respect back, here's what I think they should focus on for next season... 1) Absolute first thing: Build a hard-hitting defense. Hardest-hitting in the NFL. I mean "House Of Pain" hitting. It doesn't matter if the other team gets past the players, but if they get hit, they know they's gettin' ffuuuuuuccccdddd up. Hitting so hard, offenses around the league mark the Texans' name on their calendars as a day they know someone's going home with a sore back. Make teams regret playing you. Perhaps the first position would be the DL to add with Williams. 2) Step two: NOW worry about the OL. Yea, Carr would suffer a little longer because the OL wasn't the main focus yet, but remember, the other team's offense would regret coming on the field. Perhaps they would want the Texans to have more time with the ball because they needed more time to recover and do something. Just enough time for Carr to perhaps try to pull a Vince Young and do something with nothing. But yea, strengthen the OL as much as possible 3) Get the BEST PLAYER IN THE DRAFT. In other words, the highest prospect. In other words, the one that has the highest CONSISTANT results. We have Williams, "Mr. Potential", now lets get someone on the team you know will make an IMMEDIATE impact. 4) If Carr has another Raiders' type game with a proven strong OL, change out Carr at that time. Until then, Not many QBs other than guys like Young can do anything with a low-ranking OL. They need much better run protection. They're getting better, but they're not there yet. 5) When they start winning, the fans will come back. In fact, I think Texans fans will have their heads up high again when they're capable of beating the Colts and Titans twice in one year. For that to happen...um...we have to beat them once first.
  14. Notice that the 99.6 percent in the Astrodome = 485,552, but 99% in Nashville = 528,890. That's a major revenue difference. And that's AFTER the Astrodome expansion in the 80's. I can see now why any owner would want to leave the Astrodome. Like I said before though, if Adams had a great new stadium plan, Houstonians probably would have excepted. But he didn't. Not by a long shot. This is Texas, where we like our stadiums to be the first of it's kind, and where we like to produce winners. If you can't offer either, you'll end up in Tennesee...
  15. I'm happy we didn't settle back in the Adams dayz. Reliant Stadium and Toyota Center are a hell of a better than the stadium Bud Adams had planned for the Rockets and Oilers. That would have been a SERIOUS bust! Especially knowing that 5 or 6 years after it was built, the Rockets would have been looking for a new stadium and Adams would probably have been asking the city for a new one too
  16. Clements lives in the Memorial area here in Houston. His restaurant's right down the street. He raised his kids here in Houston, too. Both him and Pettite probably call Houston home because, well it's home. If the Dallas Cowboys can call Dallas home while playing in the suburbs, then Andy Pettite can call Houston home while growing up in the Houston area (Deer Park).
  17. I disagree. Carr played a good game. Young making that last run in overtime in no way was Carr's fault. I'm pretty sure Kubiak's ripping the defense for the loss more than Carr, but even so, the Texans played an overall good game. Vince Young was just being Vince Young though. Almost unavoidable...
  18. I do think that Bud truly wanted to stay in Houston, but also knew he had to have a new stadium to compete in the NFL market since Astrodome was becoming obsolete. That being said, Bud Adams' stadium ideas for Houston were STUPID to say the least. He had two plans shot down by Bob Lanier (and I'm glad): A 70,000 seat open-air stadium that looks almost exactly like the Titans' current stadium, and a stadium for the Oilers and Rockets similar to the Alamodome (which the Rockets weren't even aware of). NEITHER would have worked in Houston. If Bob McNair's stadium idea existed around that time period, perhaps the Oilers would still be in Houston. McNair flat-out came up with a stadium plan that was top-notch and a first in the NFL, while Adams was looking for something trendy and would have wasted taxpayer dollars. I feel bad for McNair because of today's game. He's the reason why the NFL is back in Houston, yet the way today's game ended will be talked about all season because of the person who did the final play, and the team he was on. Perhaps Texans/Titans will be a bigger rivalry in the coming years because of all the media scrutiny. I NEVER heard the Texans talked about on ESPN to hype up a game as much as this week leading up to the Titans game. I do see a lot of promise in the Texans, and Kubiak is a good coach, but they're far from a respectable risk-taking highlight-reeling NFL threat of a team that deserves multiple MNF games next season. They need to use the rest of the season as something to build on for training camp 2007. They also need to make a major splash in the next draft regardless of where they pick. And the Chronicle and Houston media needs to stop overhyping them, and underhyping Houston's championship teams. If a team wins a major championship, and the Texans lose, the Texans don't deserve to be the first sports story...
  19. Carr played a good game, and the Texans put up a good fight as a whole. But when it comes to taking chances and making the most out of what you have when the game's on the line, Young won the game. If the Texans were able to at least put up a fight until the very end of regulation, this wouldn't have been an embarassing loss. The crowd was booing at the end of regulation for a reason.
  20. The most embarassing loss in the history of the Texans in my book. Three reasons: 1) You cower at the last 53 seconds of regulation because you don't trust your offense to get the job done, and you wanna take the safe road knowing that the opposing team's QB would have gone for it 2) The hometown hero you turn down in the draft runs 50 yards to end the game and win it, proving his skills at crunchtime while proving Carr inept when time to take a risk. 3) Young had more fans cheering for him at the end of the Texans home game than the Texans did. We were happy for Vince. Was Bob McNair even at the game? I gotta give Carr props though; he did a good job consistantly throughout the game. He didn't lose it for the Texans in any way. But Kubiak didn't give Carr the chance to win it either at the end, because he thought it was too risky that Carr would get sacked or would have caused a turnover. That says a lot. If you don't trust your players, get new ones...like Vince Young perhaps?
  21. (Record currently held by Mark Brunell of the Washington Redskins against the Texans defense just earlier this season, by the way)
