  1. I agree. Another good offseason move by the Texans. Him with Ryans and Clark competing with the other veteran Texans should make for a hell of a defensive improvement. They knew depth was an issue, and they seem to be addressing it quite nicely. I hope the DL improves as well before the season starts. Williams is good, but he'll need another lineman to step up and distract opponents. Williams could be a real disruption if he recieved single-man coverage this season. He was double-teamed a lot last year, limiting his abilities. I agree part 2 A star reciever or two for the Texans on draftday wouldn't hurt...
  2. I want to see a revitalization around the Sears/Fire store/Fiesta in that area, and also see a Sugarland-Town Centre-type development in Midtown. Like a pedestrian square surrounded by the regular busy streets. That'd be cool. There's a difference between being a historic building, and being a building that looks rundown, which is what Sears kinda looks like over there these days.
  3. I don't know if it was mentioned yet, but Dynamo's been kicking some serious ass in the CCC so far. They beat the current SudaAmerica champs Pachuca 2-0 last night, and are getting ready for a showdown in Mexico City against them April 5th. If Houston wins there, it will be the first time in history that ANY American team, professional or national, has beaten a Mexican team on Mexico soil. The game's gonna be on FSC, and a few other channels, but the major watch party will be at the Mezzanine that night.
  4. Once again, that's great news. That's the kind of depth the Texans need. Keep it up
  5. I agree. If I were SA, I wouldn't even consider pursuing another MLB team unless they were SURE to leave. I'd keep an eye on the NFL because they already have the stadium ready to go, and that wouldn't cost major taxpayer dollars as a result (even though that's a long shot). I still wouldn't pursue another team though, unless it was certain that the team wants to leave their current home. NHL probably has a good chance in S.A., but now that we know that Kansas City, Houston, and Las Vegas will probably be the three American cities NHL will look at first, not to mention the Canadian cities. MLS has the best chance for success there, but they probably have a bigger list of cities looking for expansion than anyone else. They could offer the AlamoDome as the team's primary tenant, but even so, they need to get back into looking into an investor on a team there, and that would be difficult knowing that the best chance they have at doing so is getting a local investor instead of one outside the city.
  6. I agree. Besides, Amman Green is supposed to be better at the position.
  7. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...ts/4637104.html They "claim" they want a second professional team in San Antonio by building the AlamoDome, which has been a haven for NFL teams to threaten to move (Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, etc.) , next, as they almost became the second Texas city to have an MLS team, the new mayor changes all the plans so he could focus on another sport instead since he thought at the time that the league was too "risky", then lastly they foolishly pursue the Florida Marlins even though that means they have to build a new stadium, and knowing that Miami had the upper hand by pursuing a new stadium themselves. Now, San Antonio's left with a vacant Dome, the MLS has shot up in quality and interest, building stadiums for almost all their teams and expecting plenty of sellouts, NFL is even considering Las Vegas more than San Antonio (and L.A. is stil seen as their priority), and MLB shows how much respect they have for San Antonio by using their situation as a pawn like the NFL has. What now?
  8. Tim Hardaway should be proud > This is a genious plan. "Fix" people that are happy with their lifestyle That's cute, or in their words, that's kinda gay > What's next for some of these people? "Fix" people that are of a religion other than Christian?
  9. There's room for two more expansion teams if and when that time came, which would up their count to 30. It would probably be cheaper and more marketable for both sides if Alexander stole a team though.
  10. I agree. Dayne's good. He could be a REALLY good backup next season.
  11. Alexander has said before that he wants to focus on the Rockets and bringing an NHL team to H-Town, so I agree that it's a big win for him. It's also a big win for him because now he gets to lease the Comets, so that's more money for him and Toyota Center. And it's also good for Hilton because he doesn't have to worry about financing a new stadium. Whether Hilton got a good deal or not depends on how well he can market the team and make the gameday experience improve more than the previous owner. I've never been to a WNBA game, but obviously from some of the complaints on the forum, they have a lot to work on, especially attendance. Not one team surpassed a 10,000 average attendance last year for the first time in league history. That's not good business. Perhaps in Houston, Hilton can turn that around. The team itself is already good. Advertising and good tv deals will be key for that team to make mad revenue.
  12. I agree. Halliburton, a company that's notorious in American business simply by reputation from the war, is leaving Houston. In contract, Enron, a company that's notorious for scandal in American business, collapsed and took hundreds/maybe thousands of families under with it.
  13. And how does that improve the team? We get another veteran QB that nobody wants, or get ourselves a QB from the draft that we still have to teach and give time to learn what being a QB is all about, while starting Rosenfels? Didn't you mention earlier that you thought Carr would be a "fine quarterback"? If that's the case, give Carr a legitimate chance with a STRONG PROVEN OL. Carr has one problem IMO; confidence. He's not gonna get it if he and his coaches aren't on the same page. If he were a disruptive player that couldn't learn, get rid of him. But he can be a really good QB soon with the right coaches. Speaking of Texans, I'm looking forward to seeing what they plan to do on draft day. I hope we make a steal or two.
  14. Yeah, I saw that. Looks like the thoughts of Houston getting a quality team from the north won't happen just yet. As that's happening, word on the street has it that the Nashville Predators are having new arena issues, and the Florida Panthers are having a tough time with attendance. I wonder if money-predator Les Alexander will look to buy either one of them. The only way now that I think Houston gets a team is by Alexander buying one. We probably won't get an expansion team, because the loser of the Kansas City/Pittsburgh saga is likely to get one if another team doesn't move there first. It'd be nice to see Alexander steal the Nashville team though I hope he does it soon, though...
  15. ...and get what in return? We can't trade him for Young now, can we? What, trade him for 2nd/3rd round picks, and use Rosenfels as our starter? And STILL have to develop someone we draft to be our backup QB? Or get a QB via free agency that's gonna retire in less than two years, when Carr finally has his break-out season? Here's my suggestion: Leave Carr alone, and have him battle Rosenfels for the top starting spot for now. Then, we see who we get in the draft. If there so happens to be a steal of a pick available as QB, take him and train him to be an EVENTUAL starter. But don't even think about trading or releasing Carr unless we draft a QB who we think could become better than him. We have a solid backup QB, and a healthy QB with strong potential, but has worked with a not-so-proven line every year in his career. So, build that OL up to strength (to where there's no excuse for a bad game whoever the QB is), and focus on the draft as to who the Texans could use to COMPETE with Carr and Rosenfels for the starting spot. Then if Carr doesn't look promising post-draft, trade him then for 2008 draft picks, and keep building. QB was NOT the worst position on the Texans' squad last year...
  16. I'd rather have all four and Carr than Rex Grossman, yet only Grossman and McNabb have won Conference titles. Carr can become a solid QB with the right coaching, and I think McNair found the right coaching staff. There was and isn't any quick fix available for the Texans for QB starter for the next 5 years except the one we have now when it comes to free-agency. Draft, who knows, but even that guy would take time to groom, and that's a guy who should BACKUP Carr and battle him for the starting spot, not automatically start. They should build strickly with the idea of having one of the strongest-depth teams in the league.
  17. I don't get it. Houston's pushing for Downtown go get more residential developments, I get that. But if they're pushing for more Downtown businesses, bars, restaurants, clubs, etc, and are pushing for more pedestrian areas day and night with projects like Houston Pavillions, and on top of that have two stadiums in walking distance, won't Downtown get more noisy regardless?
  18. That's another question. Would more people go to Galveston if there were casinos there, or would the tourist numbers be pretty much the same?
  19. I think Carr is teachable. If he has a strong OL, and they work hardcore on him during training camp, I think Carr will be great for the Texans next season. That's why I think they shouldn't get rid of him. Instead, have him compete for the starting position by drafting another QB, and with Rosenfels. Build depth in that position. Hell, build depth in EVERY position on the Texans, 'cause that's what they need most. So far, they seem to be succeeding in doing that. Shawn Barber would also be a good pick-up.
  20. I'm curious; if this vote were to pass, what would the qualifications be for an area/town in a state to have resort/casinos? In other words, what would allow a casino to be built in Corpus Christi and not Galveston, or vise versa, etc.
  21. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metrop...an/4611406.html Before, we've talked about the possibility of gambling becoming legal throughout parts of Texas (particularly Galveston). It looks like State Legislation may be ready to take it to the next step. The article doesn't mention the 12 places in particular that could be home to new resort-casinos, but I guess you'll hear that soon should this vote pass. Any positive/negative opinions on the new developments?
  22. ...unless he bought the team. They' d play rent free in Toyota Center if the owner of the stadium owned the team too. There's no question that if Les could buy any NHL team, it'd be the best young and exciting team in the league. I think when they visit Houston, he's gonna make a pitch to buy the team, or at least a part of it with the intent of eventually becoming majority owner. He'll probably come up with a once-in-a-lifetime offer that matches KC via buying the team as opposed to having a rent free stadium. It'd be the best offer they've recieved, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of people richer than him jumping to buy an NHL team.
  23. I still don't think Ramsey, Culpepper, or Harrington are better than Carr or Rosenfels. Trent Green, maybe, because he's probably the most consistant in that bunch. I still think if Carr's on the trading block, he's the most coveted QB available, which tells me there isn't much of an upgrade if we get someone via free agency. I say just forget about looking for a new "starter" QB, because it's a waste of time. Bring in someone and tell them they'll have to battle it out with Carr and Rosenfels for starter or 1st backup. Add depth to the position should in case both get hurt (it's the Texans. No one's immune from getting hurt.) And MUCH better yet, get a strong overlooked QB in the second round of the draft, develop him, and have him battle for the starting spot the second year. I think with this draft, the strongest defensive players and linemen will be overlooked in the first picks, so pick the absolute best in a position available, then make a steal in the second round. I bet you Troy Smith of Ohio State will be mistakenly available for the Texans to snatch. But I think the better QBs this year are in the draft, not free agency.
