  1. Oh sorry but I’ve walked and driven past a few days now and it hasn’topened
  2. I saw after the street repairs ( Westheimer/Elgin- Bagby) the small triangular island where the “M” statue was taken down has been cemented over. What happened to plans for new art piece for that location?
  3. Got an email that should give some more background Brandon Wolf, the author of this article was in attendance at last nights meeting to update his article: http://www.outsmartmagazine.com/2017/01/neighborhood-park-proposed-the-montrose-remembrance-garden-will-find-a-permanent-home-here/
  4. I was up in Manhattan a few weeks and noticed that most of the upscale “ Green” foodie or juice places didn’t automatically give you a straw with your drink......you had to request one. I’m wondering if banning plastic straws is perhaps a slow moving thing.
  5. Finally COH parks dept will give update on this little pocket park. Tuesday Nov 27—7pm Cherryhurst Community Center 1700 Missiouri
  6. I saw this headline on page one today. Trying to wrap my head around it......so many stories.
  7. Yes......city ordinance.....because toddlers on self propelled scooters are such a nuisance....?
  8. I have always wondered why toddlers and small children are banned from using their foot propelled scooters.
  9. Living 18 years in Midland, Texas has taught both boom and bust there; are character building experiences.
  10. There are quite a few density residential who probably should have input on this—- luckily next meeting Oct 17 at Trinity Episcopal in Midtown, might be able to express your VIEWZONE?
  11. I reached out to HPD and spoke with one of the asst Chief. ALL HPD storefronts are under review for closing. Acevedo is looking for a way to put more bodies on street and closing storefronts might be one of them. essentially the storefront is a means of communicating with residents and compiling the paper “Citizens complaint forms” I was told very few paper complaint forms come from storefront— most are electronically sent to HPD. Acevedo thinks those. Officers are mearly waiting....I related my concern that the regular driving to and from The storefront through the neighborhoods by patrol vehicles was a significant crime deterrent ( IMO )and THAT was what I feared losing. i was told that the “ weighstation” part might be adapted but bodies on street was critical. Interestingly the developer apparently did reach out to HPD about space dedicated to a storefront, as well as the library space. But HPD plans to hold public input sessions before anything is finalized.
  12. Not sure how soon this development will take place as Ted at Theos assures everyone that there are 5 years remaining on his lease and “ he’s not going anywhere”- worth worrying over are the 2 useable houses on Crocker that were purchased. One a run down rental but the other was totally rehabbed probably sold for 600k +- it would be a pity to tear down either.
  13. I heard St Thomas has plans for space Freed Library is currently using- cynically, I just want HPD cars to come and go from the storefront at all hours ( even tho storefront not open to public) as those HPD patrollers are driving to storefront hopefully their eyes are open and they can lookout for criminal behavior. my hope now is that new developer will reserve a small space for a new storefront rent free ......and as long as I’m hoping.....I hope the new developers will refrain from tearing down those useable houses but incorporate them into their “ big picture” as part of the development or move them to some of the empty lots in Avondale.
  14. Love that the library will be coming closer- worried that the HPD storefront will potentially disappearing.
  15. A lot of rumors about the Montrose HPD (900 block Westheimer) storefront closing, not surprising since HPD Chief Acevedo wasn’t a fan of store front idea. But a neighbor mentioned a developer had bought the entire strip ( Guess Theo’s Will be moving also.)center and a few adjacent lots north on Grant and on Crockett street including a beautifully restored 1920’s home. All for multi use multi-storied building ——included will be the Freed library’s move from Montrose Blvd. Apparently the developer did something charming around 6 th street and Yale in the Heights. Now I wonder if this developer will underwrite the HPD storefront in that development or if someone else will offer rent free space inside Montrose for the storefront to move into. 16. I hit submit before I had finished- I meant to say I worry about parking. I hate for houses to be torn down for parking lots. That historic designation ends at Pacific and Crocker, only east side Crocker is included. those other houses could be at risk.
  17. I saw in Chronicle, Postino Wine cafe would be renovating and going into that space.
  18. The Kirby Mansion is a jewel that could shine for Houston—It would be great if more people got behind the idea of “official residence”—— too bad there isn’t a milestone celebration( like Houston’s 200th birthday (instead of 182th) that could gather momentum to save the mansion. But maybe someone with deep pockets can come to rescue. LOL—Giuliani did live in Gracie Mansion. Back in the height of his marriage troubles’, his wife took out a restraining order against his girl friend to prevent her from entering Gracie Mansion.
  19. Seems like the renovations have stopped—— what now?
  20. Read in Washington Post today that Marriott Hotels are eliminating plastic straws.........hmmmmmmm
  21. Anyone know what the plan for this building is?
  22. There has been a lot of restoration and renovations..........what will it be? corner of Fannin and Berry
  23. Tried to use edit button but didn’t work i meant to write Starbuck says No more plastic straws
