  1. Wow I hope I can be the voice of caution---- friendliness of neighbors might not be enough for a successful transition if the school your kids attend is a zero. Maybe a little research on quality schools, then do the pros and cons of each neighborhood.
  2. The discussion continues- Read the editorials in today's chronicle https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0ahUKEwjF-brBjdnUAhWDZCYKHQB4CMUQFggOMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.houstonchronicle.com%2Fopinion%2Feditorials%2Farticle%2FPlastic-bag-bans-11243618.php&usg=AFQjCNH8Hx6slbK7fDhs6ta6uE31G-E67Q
  3. Was this in one of those big houses that got torn down, where the Townhomes are now? Have any pictures?
  4. http://www.houstonpress.com/newsblog/2017/06/13/montrose-management-district-faces-not-one-but-two-lawsuits-from-business-owners wow maybe there was plenty of feedback
  5. Avondale is just at the beginning of trying to secure a wall for a mural painting
  6. I can hear the soapbox squeaking as I step up on it again but the whiff of sour grapes propels me to mention that the 11th hour is NOT the right time to whine about how unsuitable the results were from the lower Westheimer traffic study and the only way to fix it is the immediate intervention of the MMD ( and their valuable insight) :/---- really? Public input from ACTUAL residents isn't enough to give this study support?
  7. But maybe I should have asked about their proposed piece of public art to replace the M statue that was taken down 2 years ago... that Westheimer traffic study showed that small median at Bagby, Westheimer and Elgin as a Metro stop. Will those 2 things be possible on that small space?
  8. I wrote at how "Underwhelmed" the residents along Lovett blvd were concerning the improvements of the medians there-- Besides cutting down trees with out a permit and all that hardscape ( how does beautify?) that people stumble on-- the total look is so suburban. And Yet again the plans for the medians from Buffalo Bayou to Mecom fountain are the same shtick :/

  10. Complete.........but not finished....... Dear Community Stakeholder – We wanted to share with you updates regarding the bridges over Hwy 59/69. You may have noticed additional testing and perhaps some outages of the bridge lighting. As is the case with any innovative project, some issues were encountered during installation that have caused some sections to malfunction. The project is still under the direct control of TxDOT and their contractor, Third Coast. The contractor is working as quickly as possible to get all sections functioning. The Montrose District special projects team is also working with the contractor to address the issues. We expect that we may encounter a few more intermittent outages, as we planned and budgeted for with TxDOT. Currently, the contractor is working through the punch list period towards the certificate of final completion. The expectation is for this process to conclude by the end of the third or fourth quarter this year. As always, we would appreciate it very much if you would share this information with your colleagues, friends and neighbors so that we can reach as wide an audience as possible. To learn more about the District and our work please visit www.MontroseDistrict.org. Thanks!
  11. When COH presented the first results of lower Westheimer traffic study to Neartown it was stated that improvements would be funded by CIP that has the money designated for that. This could be why the study was limited in focus to strip of Westheimer from Main to Montrose, knowing that the Midtown Management District along with Midtown TIRZ had previously improved Elgin from Main to Bagby with better sidewalk, planters etc so little needed to be done to that section could be why it is labeled "lower Westheimer" instead of "Elgin Westheimer" these CIP projects really take a long long time so the CIP funds could have been designated years ago for this project. As a side note in the 12 years I've lived in Avondale, I've observed their Civic associate put forward CIP projects each year-- -- sending representatives to all associated COH meetings--- but none were ever granted. The lower Westheimer project is within Avondale, long time residents tell me, no City improvement was ever done within their memory. about funding for Alabama improvements.... I have no information.
  12. A relief of sorts I guess In my own experience none of COH Departments talk to each other so when one dept gets orders to spare park.... the other dept might not get the memo
  13. The Montrose TIRZ hasn't started yet- but Lower Westheimer goes into design phase in Dec 2017 after review of public online comments
  14. That small triangular park at Elgin -the Brazos off rap and spur 527-- The concrete wall says "Westheimer Colony" I've always hoped something would happen to improve and take better care of it- I had been told that the original Westheimer Arts festival that became the Bayou Arts festival....placed it there as a thank you to the community for their success. Now It is finally being renovated and I suppose after all that money put into it .........the sinking of spur 527 will put it in jeopardy.........
  15. It was one of the MMD guys that told about jacking up bridge.....
  16. Deadline for public input is May 31-- www.lowerwestheimerstudy.org seems a lot of discussion on MontroseNextDoor site with worries over 4 lanes reduced to 2. In my neighborhood metered street parking on Westheimer in front of Numbers gets gets residents angry but the idea of using that space for planters and cafe tables and chairs gets them laughing. biggest thing I guess is that money that is available is only for basic improvements-- none of the pretty stuff like planters or lights. The lighting part I guess could be configured by Centerpoint to add lower lights to existing light poles as has been done downtown......but will Centerpoint do it? I hope so-- from the PIP stats 2017 spring two rapes have occurred in 400 block Westheimer. Extra lighting might be a good thing to try.
  17. I'm a little confused about all this highway construction..... at Neartown part of spur 527 construction was discussed. The Spur will be replaced with below ground level access to configure with below ground level 59? The bridge over Montrose will be jacked up to accommodate this? Is the spur so old it needs this improvement.
  18. Yep-these are the things I think about visiting while I'm killing time during my 45 minute wait at Uchi
  19. YepI heard a "Cowboy" theme was being tossed around..... for the mining company. I guess, I was hoping for ideas on something retail for that part of Westheimer, as there is little other distractions for those walking towards their dinning experience other than paint or mattresses.......sigh
  20. Yep i was just daydreaming Maybe I should have wondered - what would be the best thing to go inside a renovated " Mining Company" on pacific.......
  21. So quasi cultural? Maybe my expectations should rise and hope for an art and music venue. Something where all the outside walls are covered in murals.
  22. What do well in that building? I have to say- if this is just brainstorming- I'd like to revive a pipe organ pizza place at that location. It might be just the thing-- the 300 block of westheimer is the proposed cafe table and chairs "oasis" that the lower westheimer traffic study alludes to.The Montrose Management district Special Parking District speaks about "sharing" parking lots with businesses that close at different times- so the parking at the Paint Store and the Mattress store could be shared.
  23. COH did a brief presentation at the Neartown Meeting. Biggest discussion was need for lighting to be lower, live oak and pin oak trees are not options that residents want, and parallel parking on westheimer that might or might not have parking meters. the On street parking by the clothing resale apparently is given a by but the parallel parking in the 300 block met with a negative reaction. Instead many suggested that space be used for cafe tables chairs and planters. Pull in parking on side streets was also suggested as an alternative. Also so learned that COH is actively seeking new businesses for that part of Westheimer that would put the storefront directly by street with parking behind. public feedback is still being sought.
