  1. The Central 1 Captain assured us He had the authority to shut down these bars but he added then what. The new ordinance makes it an easier process of gathering evidence to go to trial and persuade a Judge to fine the bar into compliance-- There were instructions given on how to appeal a noise level permit any bar might obtain. IMO These ordinances will be easier to enforce when the off duty HPD working at these bars "come on board" and uphold the ordinance rather than supporting the bars that pay their off duty salary.
  2. the distance wasn't specified-- mostly tho it seems to be measured in feet-- Those at the meeting were either across the street or had a property fence between them-- all seemed less than 2 blocks. There was discussion of smart phone apps that will GPS the location and some apps will record--these are only good as part of the complaint filed by person-- the actual decibel has to be done by HPD-- when calling HPD in the person can request the meter be brought to the offending bar/club.
  3. I attended the Central 1 & 2 PIP meeting tonite---a full house! All to hear the about "tweaking" of the noise ordinance--apparently a notice went out to all HPD officers of the improved ordinance, 4 new noise level devices were bought and special training for officers began. A powerpoint presentation was made to PIP that detailed the new protocols. .http://www.houstontx.gov/ordinancefeedback/mechnoisebuffer-constructioncode.pdf Guess it all boiled down to decibels- 65 decibels for clubs/bars (This was the most talked about) 75 if you get a permit---------but permits are only good to 10pm weekdays 11pm weekends Most of the attendees had horror stories about window shaking noise levels at 4am on Washington Ave, Gray street and Tuam.
  4. I noticed there were no garage plans for the parking lot of Trinity Church.

  6. thanks for this info-- there is a pothole in front of the bus stop by Aladdins at Westheimer and Montrose that I think could break a cars axel--that's one I'd like to get fixed.
  7. weeeeeeellllllllllllllll not quite. . . . . . . I do get a quick automated response from my 3-1-1 app that my complaint has been received and a "unique" number has been attached that I can "reference" if I have any questions. . . . . . . I have to admit that I have joined others in my neighborhood ( keeping a journal of all the crappy potholes we have reported with those unique reference numbers duly noted) we actually do follow call 3-1-1 (all of us) and give those reference numbers and ask if any process has taken place. . . . . . . we're still unsure if this tactic works.
  8. KHOU's broadcast asked for pictures of potholes to be sent to their website-- I am way ahead of that-- I've been using my trusty 3-1-1 app to take pictures and ask for repairs for potholes near my house for a month now-- I will begin to forward those pictures to KHOU-- who knows what might happen.
  9. saw this on KHOU last night. http://www.khou.com/community/Montrose-leaders-challenge-city-in-fight-against-potholes--201720261.html Guess a few in Lower Montrose are trying to change that street repair priority list.
  10. I'm a little confused-- If the Midtown Arts Center development is the block bounded by Holman, Main, Francis, and Travis streets-- What will Berry street between Natachees and that parking lot be used for?
  11. I agree-- But Cohen was hosting the CIP for her district C-- not sure it goes to the loop. Avondale was trying to be gripe specific during that meeting
  12. I received the Cohen email expounding on the success of her CIP (Capitol Improvement Plan) meeting last week. --- funnything. . . . . I've spoken to residents from not only Avondale, but also EMCA, First Montrose Commons, not a lot of happycampers, That meeting was too crowded and too loud and only 7 out of the 150 people got to talk--- A protocol to determine which damaged streets would be fixed (without influence from City Council or 3-1-1) was scrapped. To label the meeting as a success is a stretch. and a friend from Roseland Civic--not happy at all. ---Roseland wanted to put the spotlight on Richmond Ave---It's totally torn up from Montrose to the spur. Those residents thought that crappy section would be the first to be improved when METRO put in the Rail---but seems like that line is never happening--and the "Worse gets fixed first" doesn't appear to have that part of Richmond ave at top of list either. so basically all the crappy streets on eastside of Montrose district will remain just that CRAPPY!
  13. These questions were brought up at Rail meetings and an Elevated line was suggested---much like the elevated line above Broadway street in Bronx, NY beginning at the Harlem River---The response to the Elevated proposal---NADA!
  14. I think there is a parallel in there somewhere-------------Metro should have the power to do what's best without influence from. . . . . . . That COH Van was suppose to have the "power" to determine what streets needed repairs based on what streets were in the worse condition --a determination without influence from neighborhoods or politicans. . . . . . . .
  15. Maybe you remember some of the earliest conversations about a east west metro rail line concerned putting the line on Westheimer-- all those talks went phooey.
  16. I think I might have posted this on another thread but a few meetings back at Neartown, the COHpwe brought up that here had been discussion of returning Westheimer from Elgin to Montrose back to three lanes-- I brought up that went I lived in Houston in 1978- that part of Westheimer was three lanes. No one in that room had lived in Houston long enough to remember that
  17. There was a CIP gathering hosted by Ellen Cohen at multiservice center on Gray yesterday--around 150 +- attending Repairs to Westheimer Road from Elgin to Montrose were suspciously absent from COH public Works list of streets needing repairs based on "Worse gets repaired First" (this part of Westheimer is within my Civic asso boundaries--6 from Avondale came to try to add voice to our squeaky wheel status --unforunately only 7 of Cohens constituents were allowed to speak.) The lack of Repairs on Many of the torn up streets of Montrose (very few made list)were pointed out by David Robinson, president of Neartown (he first made me aware of the change from COH Van with laser as basis for worst gets fixed first to new formula that adds 3-1-1 calls and reports to City Council people to "algorithm) If you travel Alabama from Shepherd to Travis--- not at top of list either.
  18. I love the pictures and glad you came to Avondale. You noticed perhaps that these old house entries are not only "guarded" by the obligatory lions statues, but also gargoyls, african lions and the occasional suleika dog statues as well. ;}
  19. It's interesting about that quotation on multi-family. I am new to the church, and haven't heard anything in that direction. However, the church has reoccurring financial "woes" the endowments, aren't what one would expect. The upkeep of a 100 year old building and the 100 year old Historical building next door (just recently purchased) seems to strain Monies dedicated for maintenance/restoration. The Historical (Bering House) building is said to be destined to be a Multi-arts of a sort--but no residential. I sat thru a very short presentation on the parking lot use-- centered on retaining ownership, allowing the church to have free parking during church service times---paid parking for everyone else. The monies this plan would generate-- seemed respectable--- No mention at all about residential living space.
  20. Do you mean Trinity Episcopal parking lot at Holman and Main? I think the church is in early early talk of building a multi-level parking garage to take advantage of the additional parking needs especially of the New Multi-arts Complex going in across Main street.
  21. I started a different thread on the proposed Memorial of Mary's--it's in the Montrose forum.
  22. thought this would be a nice addition to this thread http://www.texasmonthly.com/preview/2013-02-01/feature21
  23. don't know much about the plans for new campus but, one of the uses the residents association offered for the old location was as a culinary school.
  24. When Kirk Baxter made his presentation to Neartown about the proposed Memorial, he said he had spoken to new owners of the property about the posibility of putting the Memorial to Mary's on the SE corner of Waugh and Westheimer so the glass would reflect the the renovated building that was formally Mary's. He went on to say the owners of the property had told him they are planning a 6 story mixed use project. He told us the owners seemed to favor his proposal.
  25. wonder if the old route 66 cafe on Fannin could be redone and used by SSO
