  1. In reality, the next SkyHouse will probably be the next major project to finish downtown, which is amazing since they started so much later than some of these other projects.
  2. Based on the wide margin of defeat for HERO, I can only assume that a large percentage of people who this ordinance was designed to protect voted against it. One thing that perplexes me, why is this not all covered under the 14th amendment? Why do individual cities and states need to have these laws on the books? Equal protection under the law for everyone. No exceptions.
  3. Actually I should have read all the way to the end. This looks like a down payment with the source of the remaining funds in question.
  4. So Charlotte's getting this http://charlottestories.com/charlotte-receives-new-25-million-federal-grant-to-build-historic-gateway-station/ So happy for them
  5. Glad we still have it then. I was afraid that was what was under the cladding of the Houston Chronicle Building.
  6. I would be surprised to see work starting up again by November 3rd. I assume there needs to be a full incident investigation first.
  7. Interesting, this wasn't a cow reference, it was a Cupertino The ones inside existing structures are nice. The others, moo... Ours, double moo...
  8. So should we start dictating architectural guidelines for developers downtown? If every new building has to meet some sort of aesthetic ideal we'll be stuck with a sea of parking lots forever. Plus, as has already been mentioned, we need cheaper hotel rooms downtown as well so everyone can come here and enjoy it. And yes, density is important in a market such as downtown.
  9. I'm going to look at the bright side of this as this will add more needed hotel rooms to downtown. We're going to get some first rate hotels and we're going to get this. At least this one is in a somewhat inconspicuous part of downtown, as opposed to looming over Discovery green.
  10. One crazy thought, since the Bayous span out all over Houston, would it be conceivable to start using them as a means of transportation via water taxis? I think it would be cool to jump on a taxi downtown and ride it out to the Galleria, although you'd have to use some other form of transportation to take you where you need to go. Some considerations: 1. Are the bayous navigable throughout Houston? 2. Would the "commute" time be reasonable compared to other available forms of transportation (my guess is no)? 3. Would it be cost efficient? I wouldn't consider this to be a major transportation option, but would it be reasonable to have a small fleet running throughout the week?
  11. Adding trails along White Oak Bayou from the bridge over to Studemont. A little curious why they didn't give the extra effort to connect it to Stude Park: http://houstonparksboard.org/projects/white_oak_bayou_trails/
  12. Where else do you see these kind of projects in the US outside of NY and Chicago? For whatever reason, the economics work in those cities and nowhere else. Manhattan has no choice but to build up. Chicago tries to keep pace. Everyone else is a distant 3rd.
  13. Could this possibly be replacing the BOA on the same block as La Carafe? Not sure if that lot is big enough for this, but it is one block North of Market Square
  14. Looks like Google Maps might have done a recent update. You can now see this project and several others currently under construction.
  15. Here are a few pictures from the lawn at the Water Works
  16. I'm glad they're tackling the plaza first. The Lyric Center project is not part of this, but will naturally enhance it. That should be well underway when they get started with the plaza.
  17. Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER). Basically connects Sesquicentennial Park to Allen's landing. It might have just been me combining these all into one opening. At one point I remember they all had the same finish date (back in April). I think it would have been cool to have the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Water Works and then been able to wander around and check out these new developments as well.
  18. I'm a little disappointed that they couldn't finish the Sunset Coffee building and the TIGER trail for Saturday's celebration. I'm hoping they can finish them before year end. Everything else appears ready to go.
  19. Almost seems a shame that the great view from the pool area will be blocked once the development on block 98 eventually goes up.
