  1. I think these early season injuries have been a blessing in disguise. Once Jones and Howard come back, the Rockets will have true depth with a bench that has played major minutes and won a lot of games. Harden is twice the player he was last year but I'm concerned about the minutes he's having to play. He may fade out in the long run. So far, I like what I see.
  2. The thing that's been interesting about this project lately is all the history they are "rediscovering", like the cistern and the Donnellann Crypt. I wonder if there are any other surprises out there waiting to be found.
  3. For the uninitiated, what are they doing, pouring the foundation on top of the foundation? What is the purpose of that space between the two slabs?
  4. In that case, they would have to go through the land acquisition process, so I wouldn't expect this to happen anytime soon.
  5. Your photo's perspective makes me wonder how they would develop the Commerce Promenade. The buildings on the other side of Fannin and San Jacinto come right out to the waters edge. If they were to continue with that part of the project, would it require those buildings to be leveled, or would they build out the bulkhead to go around them?
  6. What are 1500 Louisiana and BG Group Place chopped liver?
  7. I agree. With the basic design, there is at least some hope that it could be swapped out later for a larger, more impressive design. If they built that "signature station" we'll be stuck with it forever.
  8. The distance from the Northline Transit Center to IAH seems insurmountable, but the Southeast line terminates about 5 or 6 miles away from Hobby. Granted, in light rail terms that's a fortune, but it still seems do-able. In the meantime, they could provide shuttles to travelers from Hobby to the Palm Center Terminus.
  9. What are the odds that the Houston Airport System and Metro might work together to extend the Southeast Light Rail line to Hobby? I imagine the payoff to connect a smaller airport like Hobby to downtown and other locations might not be enough to justify the cost.

  11. It looks like the connection work from Sesquicentennial Park to Allen's Landing has begun:
  12. I walked by the park last week on my way to eat at Hearsay and it looked to be far from finished. They must have put in some late nights to get ready tomorrow's unveiling.
  13. Forget about the Buffalo Bayou Master Plan, now we've got the Houston Bayou Greenway Initiative, a Master plan of Master plans, sort of speak: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7114095.html http://www.houstonparksboard.org/projects/bayou_greenways_initiative.php Estimated Cost: $500 Million Miles of new or upgraded hike-and-bike trails: 250 miles The gleam in Ed Wulfe's eyes: Priceless!
  14. I believe there was also a proposal for extending this trail south along the Bayou and potentially on to Memorial Park. It ran into some opposition and I'm not sure if that plan has been abandoned.
  15. I still say Camden Yards is the best ballpark in the majors, regardless of the Orioles deplorable performance over the last 15 years.
  16. When is the demolition?

  19. RICE VILLAGE A new vibe Change may doom mom and pop shops By DAVID KAPLAN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle The cozy Village got a big jolt in the 1990s when Weingarten Realty developed Village Arcade on University Boulevard. Stretching two blocks, the Arcade brought in national tenants including the Gap and Banana Republic. The immense brick center
  20. In the time I've been following these types of projects in the Houston area, I've noted that the groundbreaking usually gets pushed back two or three times - unless it happens to be in the Medical Center, in which case it seems happen before you've even heard of the project. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing doesn't get underway until August or September. But I'm still pulling for May.
  21. It looks just like the current one with a bunch of cheap color splashed on it.
  22. I just noticed today there appears to be some digging happening on the lot right next to the Days Inn, between Louisiana and Travis. I spotted some backhoes and bulldozers tearing up the pavement and piling up dirt. Anyone know what this is?
  23. That's too bad. I guess the superblock ain't that super after all. Another option is to do something on the west side of town similar to the Westside Tennis club. The land would be cheaper so they go a little more spectacular on the stadium design. Something in the Westchase area perhaps?
