  1. Barcadia is expanding into the open retail space behind their current location... it will include bowling and more games. Should be pretty good. They are also going to start serving brunch there as well.
  2. haha i think everyone already understood what you were saying....
  3. Very nice, the entire old boy scouts lot has a construction fence around it too
  4. Sounds good but only for buildings with moving parts in Houston, otherwise I don't really care to comment.
  5. Hopefully they find a secure way to put the turbines back in... I fee like they set a new standard for buildings (at least in Houston)... those with moving parts, and those without.
  6. http://swamplot.com/...own/2011-01-13/ looks like something did fly off...
  7. I was driving by at lunch and saw one of those temporary buildings that contractors use at construction sites at the Old Boy Scout's parking lot - it was hitched to the back of a truck and was either being moved into or out of the parking lot. I don't remember if it was always there or not.
  8. For sure man. They had fireworks but they weren't as high as I wanted them to be.
  9. This is just a guess but I'm thinking they were just testing to make sure everything was in working order and then plan on putting them back in once Hess moves in. Hess is probably paying higher than average rent for this place and they want to use the turbines as a marketing/advertising tool once they move in. Maybe? I don't know...
  10. I'm a litte late on the response but I have to say I definitely had a good time... but I was only at Glowarama for about 45 minutes (we got there just before they started doing the fireworks). Other than that it was a solid downtown night. Dinner at houston pavilions, followed by Four Seasons hotel party, then Glowarama and back to the hotel again... the suite was pretty cheap (I guess cheap compared to what I expected) - only 267 with tax and it was an excellent room. The best part of it was that downtown was absolutely hoppin - people all over the place. I'm just happy to see a major public/outdoor NYE event in Houston and I hope it gets bigger, better, and more adult oriented. If someone does comes across the attendance numbers please post them.
  11. so i was biking around houston on saturday and i noticed some filming going on downtown... The cops had all 4 streets around Jones Hall blocked off. There was a blacked out (lights and everything - black) ML 350 benz with a camera on it hauling ass around the corners with a Hyundai Elantra following closely behind it. At first I thought it could (by some small chance) be a car chase seen for a movie but the guy coordinating the whole thing told me it was just a car commercial. Still, be on the lookout!
  12. ya there is but I think it is a different bar going in
  13. L&G, I got some updates. so "Wonder Bar" is going in where Tipsy Clover use to be and they are planning on opening this Friday (Jan 7). Also, "Wunder Bar" is going in right next to Ruby Tequilas near Louisiana and McGowen. Apparently it is a completely different concept and just a coincidence that they have the same name... strange but it is what it is.
  14. Guys, Do you think the closing down of Cielo's downtown will delay Ali's plan to remodel the Old Boy Scouts of America building? Any updates for #2 and #3 listed above?
  15. I found a rendering for a potential building acorss from Starbucks on Gray from HAR. This might be completely dead but if someone has some info, please pass it along.
  16. haha ya I was pretty confused when I checked out that link as well...
  17. Agreed man, that's how I felt about the downsizing of HP. I was happy that it took up quite a bit of open lots and am hoping it spurs new condos and/or rental propoerties in the numerous other open lots in that area. Only time will tell...
  18. I saw lots of work going on at Tipsy during my lunch break.... The guy said they were putting in a bar called "Wunder Bar". That sounds good but I also saw a sign for "Wunder Bar build out" next to Ruby Tequilas (near Lousiana and McGowen) with a bunch of work going on there too... Not sure what is going in... I also saw a lot of demolition and new railing going up at the old Red Door Bar. Looks like something new is going in there. Last, there is work going on at the place inbetween Cafe Layal and Front Porch... looks like they are re-doing Lemon Tree (which shut down not too long ago).
  19. I found this project listed below: http://www.houstontx...ts-20100331.pdf We need some development along Main so this could be good, still looking for renderings... The Midtown website says the target persons will be making 30 to 60% less than average "AMFI" - Applicable Median Family Income... I think for Harris Country this is about 60K... so the target persons will be making between 42K and 24K
  20. Ya that's why you need the hotel to pre/post party. Also Four Seasons and Hilton are both having hotel parties (Four Seasons has a party in the lobby Ithink) Also, drinks will still be served at Hilton, Four Seasons, the Grove and the other Cafe on the park I would think. I wonder how many people will show up...
  21. I think me and some friends are going to get a hotel downtown and party there before/after the event... I'll report back on how it goes. http://www.gloworama.com/index.htm

  23. i found another cool picture of mainplace on flickr... this one shows the parking garage roof... some potted plants and lighting up there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lens_adventurer/5266906905/
