  1. Sav-on Drugs pulled out of Houston some time in the early/mid 80's. I know this because there was one built in a former Eagle Foods shopping center in the early 80's at Uvalde and Wallisville that is currently a Family Thrift Store. It didn't last long, Sav-on closed and Walgreens took its place afterwards (eventually it relocated to a standalone).
  2. So essentially this will be a Baker-Ripley campus? Isn't Ripley House already close by? It's a nice building but we desperately need a new grocery store.
  3. Level 3 Communications took the former Phar-Mor space which was located in the middle of the center. I believe the southwest corner anchor was Sportstown.
  4. Historic aerials do seem to confirm that. I don't remember because as a child that particular stretch of I-10 was a retail dead zone, unlike today. Since the current Walmart at Freeport opened some time in the mid 90's, other retailers have very slowly started gravitating eastward. The old Whataburger that was fronting the Home Depot recently closed and moved further east near the Walmart.
  5. As much as I really love a new shiny building, I think it's bad timing considering Houston currently has the highest office vacancy rate in the country. This project will not make that rating any better.
  6. Being held up can happen at ANY grocery store. I was held up near the Galleria years ago. Has nothing to do with how nice a store is or how comfortable its surroundings may feel.
  7. Topic posted does not pertain to Covering Kingwood section. Move to Transportation.
  8. I'm just tired of Republicans period at this point. Too many trying to hold back progress. They got to go!
  9. With all these closings, I'm wondering if they have plans to sell the warehouse on the Gulf Freeway anytime soon. Would be better as housing/retail.
  10. Actually before Mervyns it was a Lord & Taylor.
  11. Hate them! They are constantly posting topics in the wrong sections, cluttering up "Unread Posts" of the forum. Like for instance, an article related to "State Politics" or "Houston Crime" in the Katy or Kingwood/Atascocita sections. If other legimate non-bots like us aren't allowed by admin to "go off topic" on regular development posts then why do these two fools, who I vigilantly report, keep getting a free pass? Get rid of them!!
  12. The city rain barrel has been very good. Have had it for over 3-4 years now.
  13. Gross! Enough with the damn big box churches, especially the kind who choose to influence our city's politics/elections and not pay federal taxes. There's already an embarrassing amount of these fugly "sanctuaries" all over town, downtown is just overkill.
  14. That's because it's since been moved to the appropriate section. It was in a neighborhood subsection prior. Lately, many political posts, such as this one originally, have been posted in non-political sections of the forum. This is the "royal mess" I was speaking of.
  15. So we can talk politics now in sections not labeled as "Politics"? This forum is turning into a royal mess!
  16. Reporting this post as it has nothing to do with Houston "City Hall". There is an appropriate subsection for this topic, under "State Politics".
  17. I read on NextDoor that Sprouts might be opening here. Can anybody confirm that or know anything else?
  18. Interesting article but I noticed errors. The JC Penney store was never a Joske's. It's always been JC Penney since opening. Also, Dallas doesn't have a "Highland Mall" that would be in Austin.
  19. I have never seen so many non-architectural posts at one time the whole 11 years I've frequented HAIF.
  20. I'm just happy they put the parking in the back. The crappy shopping strips and CVS's in the core won't even do that.
