  1. Some of those condos are going for upwards of $1000 per square foot.
  2. It sounds like the expansion of the concept might have something to do with this. By expanding to 10 stores in a matter of 2-3 years they have lost some of the charm, but mostly from the posts above it sounds like they have lost some of the taste and quality. Other concepts should be weary of this issue. We have seen it with Antones, Ninfas, Carrabas, and now Berryhill's.
  3. It will not be overnight, but I agree. Wulfe is going to make this happen. With all the high profile tenants (Eatzi's, Cafe Annies, Americas, Hunans) it is going to take a good plan to keep those guys happy. Of course with Whole foods supposedely anchoring a new development Eatzi's mght just be screwed.
  4. Today was interesting day. I had 2 employees not come in even though they live on the West side of town near me. I made it in record time since half the city was wimping out. I understand the East Side and South side got it bad and I have a lot of sympathy for those people, but tons of people used it as an excuse not to come in. Maybe I am bitter since I did not do the same. My wife works downtown and they called her at 7:45 and told her to take the day off. At 9:00 they calle dher back and told her to come in. That is totally uncool. you make the decision and stick by it. I think there is a lot of Fear (and rightfully so) concerning another Allison type storm. It looks like the same area that got pounded last night and today is going to get more. The West side is almost dry.
  5. I think if a homeless guys threw a nickle at me I would have to come back with something like: "Sweet, thanks for the change loser, I guess we know why you are homeless." I would probably get killed, but I would try anyways.
  6. I tend to agree. I do not see it happening, but you never know. That seems like a pretty exposed piece of property and getting in and out would be a pain during high season and rush hour.
  7. I might be wrong, but I think Jumbles is dead. All locations closed. What a complete waste. How long were they open - 6 months tops. They might have been better served keeping a few locations and getting rid of the rest. Most of the stores and real estate is just too darn costly for a donut shoppe.
  8. I used to love their tamales. They were so good and moist. Now they are mass produced and not so good. I do love the Original Fish Tach (fried fish) but it can be hit or miss. Like anything Berryhill is good every month or so, but beyond that is too much.
  9. There was an Antones by me. One day it was called Anthony's. They still make the same stuff (not so good knock off of the original). Totally weird. I agree. The Village location is the best.
  10. I know, I meant good work on finding them and posting them.
  11. B4-U-Eat is an awesome site. We use it all the time when venturing out to new restuarants. But if you hit the new sushi place this weekend fill us in with your comments. If I were a betting man I would bet they are out of business within 6 months. That is the way that site is.
  12. I am starting to wonder about Berryhill's. They seemed to have expanded very quickly. They went from 2 or 3 stores a few years back to somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 stores. My wife and I ate at one (Westhiemer @ Kirkwood) yesterday and were basically the onle people in there. It was 12:30 on a Sunday. You would think there would be more of a crowd !!! I have eaten at other locations that have been packed. The Post Oak location does a huge lunch and the Montrose location is a huge Sunday Brunch hangout. I guess I am wondering if they have expanded too much. Two other Houston chains come to mind - Antoines and Ninfas. Both of these eateries had years of success. They they went nuts and overexpanded. Both went through financial problems and ownership changed, stores closed, and the brand was threatened because of it. Anyone think that Berryhill's is headed for a similar fate. I looked at the site and they have 10 Houston Area stores and it appears they are Franchising the concept. This may or may not be new for them. Who know's maybe it will become huge ???? I do like the food, although the Tamales are not as good as they once were 3-4 years ago when I first discoverd the palce.
  13. I am a little confused. Is the old Cabo / Montrose Diner location now a Sushi place. I have not been down there for some time and I am not sure what is going on with this site.
  14. I think Hunan on Post Oak is one of the best Chinesse joints in town. They have an extensive menu and can make thinks extra spicy if you like. Beware, this place is more expensive than most of your run of the mill chinesse food places.
  15. I tend to agree with you Subdude except for Pang Tai's on Westheimer just east of Wilcrest (Pad site in front of Target and Randalls). I have eaten there 3 times and ordered take out 5-6 times. Each time I have ordered differently and completely enjoyed what I ate. The one exception is the Sushi. I will not even bother to try that. The Thai Food, Vietnamese, and Chinnese are all exceptional at this place. Give it a whirl if you are ever in the neighborhood. Mo Mong was terribly over-rated in my opinion as well !!! Once was enough for me.
  16. Back to the orignal topic. I have eaten at this place once and was not very impressed. We were over there yesterday and it was DEAD. Not a car in the parking lot. It was lunchtime. Granted it was Father's day so maybe their business fell because of the day, but I do not see this place lasting much longer. There are a lot of failed concepts out this way. Texadelphia closed up shop a few months ago - They were in the old Cliff's location. If neither of those resturants can work over in that area I am not sure if Raising Cane's can either. Anyone else have an opinion on this establishment. IF I am craving chicken tenders there sure are a lot of places I can hit. I do not think this place will be missed.
  17. So true. Waiters in Europe suck. Granted we are a less patient society in the States and are used to dinning quickly. I have grown so accustomed to quick service that I come to expect it everywhere I am. I have spent much time in Europe and the service always drives me crazy. Usually I am just hungry and grumpy and expect a drink to be brought within 10 minutes of sitting down. For the most part I have chilled out and come to expect it when overseas. I usually end up tipping them 10% in europe if I think it will be appreciated. It is my way of saying: "Thanks for the service, I am a stupid American and feel it neccesary to tip you even thought your service sucked." On the flip side, there is nothing worse than sitting in a restuarant in the US and not wanting to be bothered as you enjoy a bottle of wine and your company and having the annoying waiter bug you the entire time. When it coms to restuarants, I guess I have issues. P.S. I was a waiter for 4 years in college and I feel like I always had a gauge on the people I waited on. If they were in a hurry, I was in a hurry. If they wanted to be left alone I left them alone. Of course I was a Chili's waiter so the crowd was usually casual and in for a quick bite.
  18. Great photos indeed Max. I so wish I could go back in time, get in a car and drive around Houston. That would be a trip !!
  19. This seems pretty harmless. How hard is it take the knit work down. For the amount of effort it takes to knit I would think this fad will not last very long. "Knitta Please" = Awesome.
  20. My opinion is that townhouse with low HOA fees will sell easier than a condo / loft where you pay $250+ a month in maintenance fees.
  21. Keep them coming. Pics are good.
  22. I for one am OK with her leaving. She botched a few articles about the firm I work for (don't ask, I am not telling). She mis-quoted our rep and put out false information. She has no respect from the people within my company. Good riddance. I agree with Ricco67 She was sort of cute though.
  23. Yes, Square Dancing was so big at SBS. I am not sure why. It was so retarded though. We would have to square dance for a month in PE and then put on a stupid Hoe Down for our parents. Ugggh. My kids hopefully will not have to go through that. Square dancing should be banned.
  24. I sure hope so. That is part of the reason we bought there. We were able to get into a nice size house that we can grow into. I hope to stay there for a long while.
