  1. I drive by the new center all the time and it looks pretty rediculous. I am not sure I see the rendering looking anything like the real thing.
  2. I am suprised that is went so quietly and for that price. I was sort of expecting a big bang announcement with master plans and excitement. I suspect you are correct. These guys will most likely put together a master plan and then sell off parcels to residential/ industrial/ retail / and office developers. It is also my thought that this is NOT a developers dream site. If so there would have much more interest in the purchase. This is no Andro Airport !!!
  3. I am suprised they are building another Cinema. There have been 2 cinema's in there over the years and none have lasted. I guess they are going state of the art with stadium seating (which is the norm now). I will like it as I recently moved a few miles aways. The mall really has transformed. I used to "hang" there as a middle schooler in the early 80's and the place was a dump. I did not know it then, but it looks 100% different and it is hard for me to believe it is the same place. Metro National is an awesome story. I turned down a job with them 3-4 years ago. I sometimes wish I would have thought a little harder.
  4. ^^ The house we were looking at was right behind the Casa Ole. I am thinking the noise and opportunity for rats (rodents and people) are enough to keep us more in the Meyerland area.
  5. Everything I have heard on this subject concerns moving the football program to a different division so they can compete with similar size schools. Right now they are Division 1. By moving to Division 1aa, 2, or 3 they could compete better than they are.
  6. That is great you are opening your house up. My wife and looked at a house on Willowisp last Sunday. It was a total redo as you come into the neighborhood from S. Post Oak. We loved the house and the price was in our range, but we were not too fond of having retail right behind the fence. Plus I travel quite a bit and I am not sure I feel 100% safe having my wife stay there alone for long stretches of time. Here is the house we looked at. I realize it is a little ways off from your home. http://www.har.com/search/engine/indexdeta...=0&backButton=Y
  7. I am going to hit Andy's. You have mentioned that one before.
  8. El Tiempo has just moved up the ladder in my book. I had the shrimp enchiladas and they were awesome. Plus I love the green dip they have.
  9. Yes, that is one of the other locations I had horrible food. I am sorta waiting for someone to suggest meeting there for lunch so I can have an excuse to try it one more time. I figure if it is horrible yet again I can always blame the other person for suggesting it. If I went in there on my own free will and it sucked I would be very upset about not going right down the feeder to Fuddruckers.
  10. Everyone has an opinion and not everyone enjoys the same tastes, but what is up with Princes. I have eaten at a Prince's three times and all three time it was horrible. Let me say that I am a greasy burger fanatic. Cliffs, Ottos, Roznosky's, Southwells, Charlies, Bellaire Broiler Burger and Fuddruckers are all good to me. Hell, I even love Sonic, Dairy Queen, Wendy's and Whataburger. But For some reason I got shafted all three times at Princes. The one experience that especially threw me for a loop was the old Princes at Westhiemer and Fondren. It was in a old diner car. I went with three buddies and all of us had food that was pretty much unedible. The manager was clearly high or drunk when we complained so we just ditched our food (still paying like idiots) and went over to Blakes on Jeanetta and enjoyed a great burger. With all that said, I hear people rave about Princes. I know they had some problems about 5-10 years ago when they expanded too much in Houston (see Antones for similar fate) and their service and quality went downhill. I am asking... Is it time for me try Prince's again? I am willing to give them one more shot or I might be done for good. I wish Burgers were health food. I could eat a cheeseburger daily for the rest of my life and be cool with it.
  11. That is a shame. I would be interested to see the statistics on how may restuarants quickly go under due to poor service. I think many new restuarants do not spend enough time training and working on customer service and assume it will all just work itself out. Many people will experience what you did and simply never go back. I try to give a resturant a second chance if there were some redeeming qualities.
  12. Here is a link to the satelite image from google. I can not figure out what is currently in that building. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=5160+Hidalgo...07308&t=h&hl=en
  13. Then to answer your original question, I would probably check it out, but not stay there. If I were coming from out of town, I might make a trip to check it out, but most likely if I am buying I am staying at a place with a cheaper rate.
  14. I think that would be the highest in Houston. I am not sure the nightly rate on the Four Season, Hillton Americas, Houstonian, or St. Regis, but I would be pretty suprised if you told me they were north of $225 (special engagements aside). I was married at the Houstonian and we got a group rate of $129 a night. Of course that was also weekend rates.
  15. I agree. Look at 5 Houston Center. It is a great looking building (IMO) and fits nicely into the whole Houston Center "neighborhood" but you don't really notice it from a distance. It is going to take another really tall building to make people notice. This will not happen anytime soon as the Vacancy is still in the 20% downtown. Thanks Enron !!!
  16. There used to be a Kettle at JFK and the Beltway. I am not sure if it still there, but I can totally see it in my head. I ate a Waffle House yesterday on my way home from Lake Charles. I am amazed that place stays open. It was pretty dirty and the service was horrible. I have to admit my egg sammy was pretty decent.
  17. I live right down the street. Too bad I have never shopped for fabric in my life.
  18. No flame here, to each his own. But when and where did White Castle open. I have eaten there a few times when traveling and I absolutely love them. Was this recent of many moons ago.
  19. You bring up a great point that I have always wondered about. Why could the owners of the Galleria (Simon I think) not throw a bunch of money at the Zone and tear that place down once and for all. Whenever Lukes burned, the galleria owners should have jumped at the chance to pay big dollard to buy that property. I am looking out my window right now at the Dillards parking lot and am amazed that the Zone is still there.
  20. I can make a mean hot dog, but withouth a cheese gun, runny chili and a soggy bun it is just not the same. But like I said earlier they should change the slogan from: "Hot Doggin It" to "Heart Attackin It"
  21. What this city needs is more Dry Cleaners and Pharmacies. LOL
  22. I am all for progess and I typically like the works of R. Davis, but I love that JCI. I have eaten there for years. I guess there are enough Coney's around Houston to get my fix. Plus I try not to eat there but maybe once a month. I would like to live past 35. That tract does not seem big enough to me, but I guess considering the whole building will be built up it will probably work. If this gets done as well as the new Wolf project that area of Post Oak will have a great skyline.
