The Langley: Residential High-Rise At 1717 Bissonnet St.
toxtethogrady replied to musicman's topic in Going Up!
The appeal is by the developer. Given the limited number of plaintiffs and the small awards relative to the development cost of the building, I would have thought it was chump change just to get rid of a few ankle-biters.- 1,445 replies

Oddly enough, the people who are suing to stop the highrises because of the traffic they cause don't want the bus lanes to the rail line.

We could never do that; the TSA would be all over us in an instant. -

I'm guessing there's a certain amount of relocation and a certain amount of expansion. Foster Wheeler's also in the market for an extra 325,000 sf somewhere. And if Rick Perry's bribes marketing are successful, maybe there will be a California transplant or two in downtown Houston.

The RO: Mixed-Use Development At West Alabama And Buffalo Spdwy.
toxtethogrady replied to YakuzaIce's topic in Going Up!
It will be dense development, depending on what "dense" is. St. John's currently has some major expansion going on at its campus. The disappearance of this building and the Shell lab in Bellaire mark the passing of an era. Kind of like the closure of the HAL-PC club. -
WestMont: Mixed-Use Development Coming To Montrose
toxtethogrady replied to groovehouse's topic in Going Up!
Heh, the bad news is the location is too successful, so the current tenants don't want to leave. I suppose it could be worse - a replay of 1986, perhaps...- 697 replies

So is this office or residential? I would assume they don't need to worry about pre-leasing if they're building condos.

Someone needs to tell Dallas that Houston's got 82 companies that did a billion dollars in business last year. And we didn't have to poach them from anywhere else.

The cynic in me says we're looking at four apartment wraps and a few bike paths. The real estate is definitely valuable - close to Downtown, access to the light rail. In DC, it would already have been developed. Those derelict car dealerships along the North Freeway are getting redeveloped, so I can't imagine this site's being ignored.
