  1. From his lips to the guy in charge of the Hanover Companies. And all those lenders who just red-lined Houston.
  2. AND NOW... WHY IS THIS PROJECT TAKING SO LONG... Believe it or not, there is a four-story hotel on I-45 near the Woodlands that got to cladding 12 months ago and has been stuck there ever since...
  3. So it looks like the second half of the building has yet to start. Then the garage will be a centerpiece.
  4. Yes, they certainly aren't letting any grass grow underneath their, oh, nevermind....
  5. On the one hand, seeing a retailer close 32 stores is never a good thing. On the other hand, retail vacancy in H-Town is 4%, so I get the feeling most of those vacated sites will be snapped up. For all its growth, Houston is still under-retailed.
  6. The current oil environment as of yesterday was $52 a barrel for WTI. I think the real estate developers are way behind the power curve, compared to the developers of that Legacy complex in Plano. Seems to me a lot of their tenants could have been attracted to the Woodlands or the Energy Corridor (okay, they're insurance companies, but who knows?)
  7. I always thought "full Dallas" meant suing for $88 billion because the outcome of a football game didn't go your way.
  8. What about a generic pile of crap with an LED outline?
  9. They have a General Contractor, too. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2015/02/05/general-contractor-selected-for-museum-of-fine.html "...The Houston division of St. Louis-based McCarthy Building Companies Inc. said Feb. 5 that it has been awarded the project... ...Construction is expected to begin in July and is scheduled for completion in 2019. About 73 percent — or $330 million — of the fundraising goal has been raised..."
  10. Or they could just go the Dallas route and make it a LED wall. Times Square, here we come!
  11. There's a Gaylord in Grapevine with over a thousand rooms. Not that it helps bring convention business to downtown Dallas.
  12. The best indicator of cost cutting value engineering is the statement that the hotel will lose 4 floors but still have the same number of rooms. Smaller rooms, obviously; the customer experience is going to suffer.
  13. I would be VERY surprised if the Days Inn becomes a W. I would not be surprised if it becomes a parking lot.
  14. That parking garage is going to stick out like a goiter.
  15. The crappy old Days Inn is going away?
  16. Can Houston find enough visitors to occupy all these new luxury hotel rooms?
  17. How big is this thing supposed to be? Hilcorp is 23 stories and is kind of lost downtown. Amegy's 24 stories and is going to be very visible against 610.
  18. You leave too much cash lying around, two things could happen, none of them good: 1. Carl Icahn could demand you share it with the shareholders; 2. Somebody will try to take over the company, just to get their hands on the cash. Apple's now got the biggest cash pile on the planet. Their problem is they can't spend it fast enough. I want to have more money than I know what to do with...
  19. Delia's is going out of business. The 'tween market is a cutthroat place to be.
  20. Forever 21 does not strike me as the kind of marquee retail destination that III Forks represents. It's like having Charming Charlie's as a signature tenant.
  21. Yep, Dallas just knocked down a 12-story office building to make room for a Sam's Club.
