  1. Am I the only one here that thinks this tower isn't very attractive? Love the infill, but not a big fan.
  2. The Northwest corner of Gessner and 10 is completely cleared, and has been for some time. They have about 20 acres on which to build.
  3. The curtain wall on the Southwest corner of the building was really torn up by the falling crane. Didnt have time to get a pic, but will try tomorrow.
  4. Like one of the HAIFers mentioned not long ago, "It's Houston... Let them build. The urban principle will organically happen over time." This city has become to much of a monster (smart monster) to not eventually find it's urbanity. Edit: Damn phone.
  5. With everything built, or not built, don't you guys consider the enviable position Houston is in right now? Most of the recent proposals have gone up, or are in the process. I don't get it. Is the orientation of the building not right? Does it not have retail, or maybe Is it the height of the structure? Is it not East coast enough? While I understand wanting more of an urban environment, we should count our blessings for the position this city is in right now.
  6. Correct... I've been a working musician for almost 30 years and have played in every kind of venue there is. live/showcase clubs don't give a rip about what their exterior looks like. Neither do the acts or those that come to see the acts. The club owners are there to make a profit, and in the club business, which can be very volatile, it's very difficult. With a place of this size and scope Fitz' will be investing a ton of money on the interior, equipment, lights, etc, etc. I think it's going to be a great venue, and should be a great addition to the live music community in general.
  7. Dang computer won't let me paste the link for some reason, but Swamplot is reporting a rumor that Donald Trump is looking at three 55 plus story towers on the Dillards site next to the Galleria. Wondering if anybody has heard about it? Again sorry for the lack of a link.
  8. You stated the "moniker's" as fact. It's obvious. I'm also not sure what an "instinct classic" is. Not trying to be rude, but maybe the constant attempt at trying to sound poetic in every post through me a little.
  9. Uh, you might want to check your facts. None of those were "instant classics." They took time, effort and planning. Michigan Avenue for instance took a couple of decades to get the Magnificent mile slogan to become a somewhat national name. Liking the names of these streets (districts) is fine, but let's not go overboard. Names mean nothing. It's the substance of the area.
  10. Second crane completed yesterday for tower IV. Let the suburban bashing begin.
  11. I have been in the art and musical communities in this town for years, and have no idea what your talking about. While Houston may not be putting out smash pop artists in music, it's acts do very well regionally and even nationally. Hell, I have a top 50 album in Japan and Europe and my band was discovered here. The artist here also do very well and many make decent livings at their craft. As far as the police and court systems not being "nice to artists or musicians?" I'm at a loss. Not once have I ever encountered this, nor have I know anyone in the community that would agree with that statement. Why would either have an issue with the art community? Keep in mind that Houston has never consistently been a spotlight city, and many of us like it that way. Sure, if you want to make it big time, then LA or Nashville's your best bet. Even Austin with it's heralded music scene doesn't put out many national acts. Sorry for getting off topic, guys.
  12. Haven't read the entire thread here, but I'm a little sad that they're tearing down the Texas Tower. While I'm sure renovation would be a fortune, I've always liked this building. Ah well, I guess that's progress.
  13. My lord! Would you please read a little before posting? Thank you.
  14. So they have the same page of renderings for this project and Gables? Again, same rendering as in the Gables thread.
  15. Am I missing something here? The above rendering is the same as in the "Gables Post Oak" thread.
  16. All of that being said, and considering their long term lease (at least 7 years), and the fact that the stores numbers have risen from last year, nothing's going to happen for a long time.
  17. Half Price did have a large old home at one time that was just a few blocks from the current location. Regardless, this thing isn't going to happen anytime soon unless all the long term tenants reach an agreement with PM. 7 to 10 years is a long time.
  18. Yeah, I know, but sometimes I just can't help it. I need to find some kind of support group.
