  1. As far as palms, many do well here. Queens, Pindos, Mexicans, Majules, Dates, Norwalks, etc. I've had almost every type listed and I find that there is very little more robust than the Pindo. If you keep them trimmed properly they will handle both our heat, and tempuratures below 15 degrees. As far as fruit... Nothings better in our climate than lemmon.

    Damn, it's HOT

Man are you guys lucky... Out here where the vortex of hell looms we got dark clouds and lightning, but nothing wet. We're now at six weeks without rain here.
  3. While not a full fledged gallery, you might check Dakota Lofts to see if they could work something out for you. They do exhibits from time to time and it's set in pretty neat surroundings. I used to know the manager (Calvin), but don't think he's there anymore.
  4. Best post of the day... I am so very tired of the elite mentality out here. The wife and I are seriously looking at moving into town to get away. Of course we'll have to downsize in order to afford it, but I can't leave soon enough. I don't mean to critisize those of you here that don't participate, but most in the area do. Edit: I would add to the topic, but don't do much in Katy. I just live here.
  5. Not that I ever heard. It sounds like we're talking about the same guy. This guy was the drummer for Paul English, and later went on to play with the New Toys.
  6. Most of the trees planted, the majority of which are Southern Pines, do pretty well here. I believe the problem is drought and not root knotted trees (planting to close together). Root knotted trees generally take years to develop. These trees are still very young and have shallow root systems, thus they can't get deep enough for moisture. Not to mention the fact that because of the dry air the foilage is getting very little moisture as well.

Yep... Got this from the Farmers Almanac: "The combination of high temperature and high humidity reduces your body's ability to cool itself. For example, the heat you feel when the actual temperature is 90 degrees Fahrenheit with a relative humidity of 70 percent is 106 degrees Fahrenheit".

    Damn, it's HOT

Gotcha... I was somewhat assuming since tempurature is measured in the shade, that in the sun was the heat index.
  9. Actually his name was Herb Edwards and he was a great guy. We were pretty good friends back then.

Clouds? I haven't seen a cloud out here in BFE for two weeks. Consequently, and I think I may have mentioned it earlier, much of the trees that TXDOT planted on the Katy are dead.

    Damn, it's HOT

I figured it was bogus. As much as I hate humidty I now wish it would return. My tropical plants are having a very hard time right now, even while keeping them watered. Edit: I'm now registering 103.1 in the shade.

Ok, I'm no weather guru, but after sticking my thermometer in the sun it read 155 degrees. Certainly that's not the heat index?

    Damn, it's HOT

Right now my thermometer (digital and in the shade) is reading 100.2. I'm going to try an experiment in a bit by placing the thermometer in the sun.

    Damn, it's HOT

We hit 102.6 today (about 4:30 pm) according to my thermometer, and brother stuff is dying. The trees that TXDOT planted along the Katy Freeway are dying in droves as well.

    Damn, it's HOT

Yeah, I saw the rain over The Heights while coming into town yesterday afternoon. I'm jealous. Right now it's 99.5 degrees in Katy with no rain in site.

    Damn, it's HOT

True, but we didn't have the same type of system over us when the hurricane hit us. If I'm not mistaken we had a relatively weak high pressure system at the time. Nothing like this one.
  17. Gary

    Damn, it's HOT

A high pressure system pushes low pressure systems away. That's why we haven't had any rain. Edit: provided that the high pressure system is as strong as what we have right now.

    Damn, it's HOT

It would have to be one hell of a hurricane to make it through the high we over us right now.

    Damn, it's HOT

I have a digital thermometer that is placed in the shade (all day), and it has registered over 100 degrees for the last 12 days. Of course I'm sure it's prone to error, but it's damn hot here in Katy. Not a drop of rain in almost a month. Is it me or is this a really hot June?
  20. Thanks Red. I took your advice, and have a hearing scheduled. I've got photos, and have varios documentation (selling price research for similar home in neighborhood, etc). Funny that you mention O'Connor as they were the firm I was going to sign with.
  21. This is my first time to contest my home/property values, and I have to plead major ignorance in what to do. What I mean is, I was tempted to hire a tax office to handle everything The thing is that they want 50% of the deduction back in their pockets, and that sounds like an awful lot. What do you guys think? Could a first timer handle it?
  22. Yeah, I'm about 1 mile from 99, and it's get's pretty loud, especially at night.
