  1. Yeah I second that. The Richmond strip is just a little to gangsterish. A couple of places I really enjoy are: The Gingerman which is in the Village. It's one of the best beer pubs in the country and has a very nice, swiss type of atmosphere. Word to the wise though, it's ultrapacked from 8:00pm on during the weekends so get there at happy hour, have a few imported goodies and then hit the clubs. If your looking for dance clubs you deffinately need to hit Main street (Downtown) which is really pumpin on the weekends and has a plethora of clubs. If you get a chance to head 50 miles south, Galveston has a great club with alot of history. It's called the Balinese and it's a wonderful place. It's deffinately not a dance club but it does have some good blues and rockabilly acts.
  2. I know this is about DT lighting but no one seems to mention how cool the Williams Tower is at night. I remember when I first started coming to Houston and was coming from I-10 west onto 610 South and was really enthralled with that giant lighthouse beam crossing the sky. Very, very cool idea.
  3. Just drove by and there is nothing happening at all. As I mentioned before, There is nothing the shows there getting ready for groundbreaking. There are no survey markers anywhere which means they can't break ground.
  4. What i don't understand is how groundbreaking starts on the 25th. I drive by almost daily and I don't even see survey markers. My guess is that it's going to be a while.
  5. Edit: The Health Museum located at 1515 Hermann Drive. Me, the wife and the kids went to the Children's museum yesterday, and I noticed a big sign for a residential/office tower across the street (maybe 25 stories). It's right at Binz and the museum and I wondering if anyone new about it?
  6. Oh man, I forgot about the return yards. Really amazing. Red you're dead on with your analization of what the Texans have and what they need, especially when considering the salary cap.
  7. Yeah but I guess that's the chance you take with any franchise player. I think as someone said in this thread, it would be a huge public relations nightmare if we didn't draft Bush.
  8. Absolutely right. The Texans have few problems running the ball, if they had Bush in the backfield he would have been awesome. He also would probably have taken some pressure off of Carr which in turn would have made for a much better season. I don't think Semipro is thinking this through.
  9. Uh, I thought I refered to the O line. Anyone who somewhat follows the Texans know's they need this. And how do you know that Bush won't go anywhere? That's a pretty big statement. Also, why would it be the end of the world if Bush doesn't gain 1000 yards or make it to the pro bowl? Most certainly he will have high expectations around the league, but to doom him after his first year is a little premature.
  10. Man, that's one heck of a list! How about Bush with a few good offensive lineman.
  11. I used to follow Earll Campbell's career back in the late 70's and early eighties, and I though he was one of the greatest runners I've ever seen. He most certainly was the greatest power runner in NFL history. He single handedly made the Oilers a great football team overnight. Had the Oilers not beat him to death the first five years of his carreer, he might have broken Jim Browns rushing record. I remember the year (I think 79) he came within a few yards of OJ's single season record and he didn't play the last game of the season. I just thought he had fantastic instincts and such great balance, of course those 36" thighs didn't hurt.
  12. sweet lord, what a travesty it would be to knock down this building. I certainly hope that's not the case. I understand it's more economicaly feasable to raze the place and rebuild, but this building would be wonderful if redone.
  13. Don't forget one of the greatest rookie running backs ever, Earl Campbell.
  14. Ahhh, sorry about that, you are correct. Should have paid more attention in english.
  15. Yeah I don't think it will ever move away from being auto oriented, but I do think that a more pedetrian friendly area is emminent.
  16. While I agree that it will never be walkable like DT, I do think that eventually it will move toward a more pedestrian friendly environment. As far as the area being to large I would dissagree. The area from the Galleria to where the Uptown Pavillions will go is only a few blocks. Why couldn't we build (as was mentioned earlier) a sky walk across Wetheimer to connect the areas?
  17. I would agree we should make Uptown more pedestrian friendly and I think there will eventually be a movement toward that. With the new pavillions going up on Post Oak and the addition of the new Randal Davis condos, it should bring this issue more to the forefront. Once again, I'm tired of hearing how we need to become someone else, this is Houston, not New York.
