  1. Does anybody else think that this building is to "fat" or wide to be in the Galleria? It just looks...I don't know. It's tall, but being it's so wide, I think it takes away. Just my opinion.
  2. In that case The Woodlands has the strictest deed restrictions in the region. You can't cut a tree down without replacing it. You can't paint your house without permission. You can't paint your house just any color. It has to be approved. EVERYTHING you do, The Woodlands would like you to get permission first. That's not to say you can't do anything. God knows my grandmother cut down 24 trees between the front and back yard. If you ever come across a treeless yard in The Woodlands, it's my grandmothers. I think it's the only one in The Woodlands like that.
  3. The rendering is out for this building. I'm surprised nobody has posted it. You can find it on the Skyscraper forum.
  4. Though it is cool, it's only going to be 400,000 sq. ft. That might get you 10 stories.
  5. Bill White now opposed to the residential high-rise and is going to try and help stop the construction. Here is the Chronicle article... http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5168148.html It sure seems like the mayor would love to see zoning. This is exactly what it is.
  6. Can anybody on here put together some graphics of what the skyline will look like from the North (I-45 coming S.) and the West (I-10 going E.)
  7. I would imagine implosion would be the way to do it. Another option would be to dismantle the building floor by floor. This is being done right now on the 40 story Deutsche Bank Building in NYC. The building was severely damaged by the collapse of WTC 2 and tore a 26 story hole in the facade of the building. During the disaster the sprinkler system filled the building with water. After not being inhabited for over two years, black mold grew over everything and on top of that, over 300 human remains were found in and on the building. Therefore the building is being taken down floor by floor, piece by piece. The once 40 story building is now down to 26 floors.
  8. That would be correct. Keep in mind that Alicia was a mild hurricane compared to Rita, Katrina or most recently Dean. The City of Houston no longer allows gravel rooftops but who knows what on top of those things! I doubt the city enforced the code and made every building replace it's roof. Only time will tell and I can tell you...I won't be here to experience the next hurricane. As a meteorology major, I can tell you that it is also true that wind increases with height. Also winds increase dramatically when funneled through DT streets like that. In the event of a category 4 or 5 hurricane, gravel roof or not, MANY windows will be lost. But like anything, developers will continue to roll the dice. We haven't been hit by a "powerful" hurricane in 24 years (since Alicia). How long will our luck continue? It's interesting to note that during Hurricane Katrina, one of the meteorologists that work in New Orleans issued a grave statement that read partly: "Buildings will sway violently and then collapse!"
  9. I know some of you guys are pretty handy with the graphics...is there anyway one of you can give us a rendering of the skyline from the N., S., E., and W? I would imagine that the building would not be seen from the West side. Is that right?
  10. I hate to disagree, but that is definately Los Angeles. The Library Tower is being partially covered by the tree branch.
  11. If I'm not mistaken, that is the Los Angeles skyline in the background. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this...as to why you can't find it. Just a thought.
  12. Did anybody else's heart skip a beat after seeing this?
  13. 4 alarm fire breaks out in Two Houston Center on the 16th floor. Details are sketchy. No injuries reported.
  14. The tower is to break ground in a couple of months. Certainly they know how big the tower will be...you know, height and sq. ft. If not, they have a problem.
  15. Hey can anybody update Wikipedia. Houston is in the middle of a huge building boom and all the website has to say is the last major structure built was the second Enron tower. I think all these projects being proposed deserves at the very least an honorable mention.
  16. Can anybody draw? lol...I really want to see this thing. Is the building a couple of posts above look anything like it (Hines 47)? What about Discovery Tower? Does it resemble another One Shell Plaza? So it's 37 floors of office space then...correct? I believe it was said that it would have a 10 level parking garage as a base.
  17. I'm really surprised that the Chronicle, khou, Hines, or the Downtown Houston websites have not picked up on it yet. When Discovery Tower was announced, it was on all the above. I'm not saying it's not going to happen, it's just a BIG project to get no media attention.
  18. Rendering?? It seems that some on this forum has already seen it.
  19. Oh I didn't say it wasn't. Just making a statement.
  20. No mention of this project on the Hines website. Is there a rendering or not? Nobody will post it.
  21. It's funny how some on this forum have conveniently left out the fact that there is literally...literally 2 ft of seaweed on the beaches right now. I went last weekend and we walked on seaweed so deep that it buried your foot and half your calf which then dumped into the gulf. No sand...seaweed. This was about two miles past the seawall on the gulf side. For those on here who say "who cares...that's not were the tourists are," well I have news for you; the seawall area was in the same shape. Just not as deep. Something can be done, but nobody cares because it's "natural beauty." Blow that smoke up somebody else's ______. IMO** if the beaches were refurbished and MAINTAINED the influx of tourists would out-weigh the cost of keeping the beaches clean.
  22. Has anybody heard of the Whiteco Residential Towers to be built in the Galleria area? If so, forgive this thread. In case nobody knows, they are supposed to be two 35 story residential towers built at the corner of Westheimer and Sage. Construction was to begin this year.
  23. That would be ok as long as the Astros fund it. I don't think Dynamo should have to fund the Astros parking garage. However if the Stadium is to be built so close by, they need to be good neighbors and share their parking spaces for Astros games...if it is going to sit on land currently used for parking at Astros games.
