While I know your comment was tongue-n-check, is this lot even large enough to house a tower in the 1200 to 1400 foot range? I would think for a tower that tall you'd need a pretty large base...far larger than anything we've seen in Houston to date.

53W53: Skyscraper At 53 West 53rd St.
wxman replied to lockmat's topic in Meanwhile, In The Rest of the World...
Why can't Hines do something spectacular like this in Houston? Instead we get 609 Main....which don't get me wrong, it's a nice building, but one step above 'm e h'. If it didn't have a slant roof, 609 could be placed anywhere in the 1980s.- 9 replies

Booo!!! Periodically I like to park on Lee Rd. and watch the flights come in and I actually saw this plane. If you're not paying attention, it looks like any other domestic flight on a 737. I'm sad to see them go

Amegy Bank At 1717 West Loop S.

For some reason, I really like this project. Being that it's not lost among other towers, I think this one will really stand out. It's simple but sexy.- 558 replies

Museo Institute For The Medical Arts In The Museum District
wxman replied to Urbannizer's topic in Going Up!
Anyway, back to this building. The rendering reminds me a lot of Transco....big shoulders. Anybody else see the comparison; especially if it was standing along in the Museum District. I just hope they don't scale it down any. Sigh...- 630 replies

THIS. This is enough to give any of us a sticky spot in our underwear. Urbannizer: What scoop do you have that encouraged you to move this into the ''Going Up'' section? Is this imminent?- 630 replies

I'm sure this has been answered many times before but the timetable to build a skyscraper is several years, especially in the 40+ floor range. So why not take advantage of the 'cheap' resources now for when the market recovers several years from now when the building is ready for occupancy. Sorry, I'm sort of ignorant on these issues.

I think a tall building on this site would look odd next to Chase Tower. It would appear that they were competing for height....a "who's d_ck is bigger contest. This would look better maybe on a lot by Discovery...assuming it'll be tall.

Is anything happening with this? I tune into the construction cam periodically and it looks exactly the same today as it did a month ago.

Man, even tho this tower won't be a skyline changer, this is one of my favorite projects. Can ANYBODY provide any hope of this being built? Is it possible that construction has started?

Seems like to me that this building is rising at a snails pace. Am I the only one who feels that way?

I understand but I'm saying that I've seen no earth moving in the last couple of weeks inside the fenced off area.

They're not in a hurry to get this erected are they? I've flown in and out of IAH 3 times in the last few weeks and I have seen no indication that anything has changed.

Same here!! We just flew in from New Zealand and the line at LAX was embarrassing, long and people had no idea where the lines were beginning. It was a total disaster.

I'm flying in to IAH tomorrow (Friday) and I noticed on flightaware this morning that the United ERJ-145's are utilizing terminal A, not B. What's up with that? I've never known United to use A. I was looking forward to seeing the new terminal B.

On the other hand, I'm not sure a mult-story highrise would look good or 'fit' this area. It would really eff with the views coming in from the north frwy---not that any developer takes into account the 'view.'

Any updates on this project? How's the construction coming along? I'm flying out of C on Sunday so hopefully can capture some pics...

You guys imagination runs wild on here. lol. It would be cool if they built a twin of Chase Tower on this lot. Then we could have our own mini version of the old WTC. They look similar, too.

[ "Huote name=astros148" post="505068" timestamp="1436144045] With the new 609 main tower, capital tower having hard time getting commitments, also 6 allen center on hold, International tower on hold, how much demand is there left? Anyone else see this as a 37 story type of building in reality? 37 stories? That's very generous of you lol. You forgot also that they cannot even fill 6 Houston center, a "squaty" 30 story building
