  1. It irritates me when Laker fans and the national media whine about not having Gasol for the game. Injuries are a part of the sport and it's the really great teams that compensate for injuries and keep on winning despite them. The Rockets have had more then their share of injuries this season and even during this streak, yet here they are with the best record in the West and the second longest streak in NBA history. No one can predict how they will do in playoffs or for that matter any other team. Fact: The Rockets are the hottest team in the NBA right now and they are an exciting team to watch.
  2. They are only a game and a half behind the Lakers now. Wouldn't it be cool if they win Friday and then Sundays' Laker game be for the #1 seed? Man it doesn't seem that long ago we were wondering if the Rockets could even get into the playoffs.
  3. LOL. I have been up to that 4th floor a lot but never saw a ghost. It is kind of creepy though. Last time I was up there they were just using it for storage. It was even creepier when the nuns were there. I could never get over how small the rooms were where the nuns lived.
  4. Oops. Your right. I was thinking the two entities were the same.
  5. And don't forget the concrete columns that frequently blocked your view. Yeah, the auditorium has great memories but I don't miss it at all. Verizon is a fantastic place but to small for major acts. I have never cared for Cynthia Woods. Houston is not the place for outdoor venues except maybe 2 or 3 months out of the year. Hell our sports teams even play under a roof the majority of the time.
  6. The loss of the Auditorium at the time did not seem like that big of a deal since we had the Summit. But since it became the Godatorium, Houston has no decent venue for concerts. It's a shame.
  7. Yes that was a Roy Rogers at Westheimer and 610. I
  8. I thought they were building a dinner theater like the Alamo Draft House? We need an "adult" theater in Sugar Land. I won't even attempt to go see a movie at the AMC theaters. Nothing but loud obnoxious teenagers that make it impossible to enjoy the movie.
  9. LOL. I can't believe people are worried about living next to the prison. Your probably still safer then you would be ANYWHERE in Houston.
  10. Feb 23, 1970 to be precise. Great concert. Wish I had made it to the Family Hand afterwards. Of course I probably wouldn't
  11. It's functional for watching a game but every thing else is old and outdated. That’s one reason Rice can’t attract quality football players. There are local high schools with far better facilities then Rice. They won’t tear it down though. They have to retain their football program if they want to compete as a division one tier school, which many of their other sports programs are doing very well in. (Just look at the baseball team). Unfortunately it’s all or none in collegiate sports. You can’t pick different levels for different programs. This means the football program will probably stay exactly where they are now because there are no plans to upgrade the stadium.
  12. Rice still offers free tuition to many of it's athletes. But unlike state schools, Rice athletes are expected to attend classes and can actually read and write. There was a time when parents and students looked at the educational benefits first, sports secondary. Not so much anymore.
  13. I'd love to see some more of those directories Alpha. 62-63 was my first year (I'm still a young man), but I bet most of the faculty was the same.
  14. LOL. Good post Stu. I don't really remember the nude swimming but I do remember getting a lot of swats from the coaches. Especially Capers and Macy. Did my drivers ed with Macy in his Mustang. He was quite a character. Used to tell us stories how he escaped Poland during WWII.
  15. That's possible. It was a very long time ago. I do remember the course being pretty good size before they began selling off some of it and scaling it down.
  16. LOL. Yeah I know what you mean. I'm still recovering from the 60's. I never exhaled though.
  17. Ahh, I remember those days. Westbury didn't have the advantage of having (Bellaire) police pick up their mascot the day before a game and lock it up in the basement of their police station, so they usually came out on the short end of the stick.
  18. I went to Johnston from 62-65 and honestly can't remember what we wore if anything while swimming. The only thing I can remember is getting a lot of "pops" (swats from a paddle) from the coaches. I guess I was a very bad boy.
  19. My wife used to work at the Cheese Man. Sadly, he passed away a long time ago so the store was shut down for good.
