  1. If there's an event going on during the weekend at City Center (and there often is) then parking at the Center can be tough but there's plenty of parking at the shopping center across the street if you don't mind walking. Less walking then you would do in downtown Houston and free. The fact that the City Center IS so crowded shows how we suburbanites are hungry for the establishments available inside the loop without having to drive in on over crowded freeways and then forced to valet park. Finally we are getting some decent restaurants and bars and more to come. Just hoping for less chains and more independents.
  2. I agree. To many Outlet malls already. More have failed then prospered. Although this sounds like an exciting concept they will have to compete with nearby Sugar Land's similar endeavors.
  3. They better plan some kind of buffer from the WalMart across the street on W. Airport. Even I'm scared to venture into there. Especially after dark.
  4. Does that mean there's not going to be a football stadium at the new UT research campus?
  5. Hopefully this will finally get their HR back on campus.
  6. Win Fix and Alamo a mile apart? Guess i'm going to a lot of movies.
  7. I could buy 5 Kia's for one of those Tesla's.
  8. I was going to suggest the same because with the exception of a handful of small clubs and bars I'm not remembering any dance halls on Alabama in the Montrose area. Went to a lot of concerts at the Opry. Might have even seen PPL there. Would have been the perfect venue for them. Such a long time ago, I remember many late nights there ending up at the Harvest Moon Cafe a few blocks away.
  9. This is going to be nice. It's about time art majors got their own unique place at Rice. Pretty much everything Rice has built in the last ten years looks out of place. Brochstein Pavilion, Brockman Hall, the Rec center, the new Continuing Studies school. But in the long run they function well.
  10. Wish they would quit talking about it and get busy with the project.
  11. I love NOLA but totally agree with you about Bourbon Street. It attracts the sleaziest people in the world.
  12. I don't remember a McDonald's being anywhere near the Square.
  13. Hopefully there will be Uber spaceships.
  14. If Antonini is involved it will be a slum. Anything he touches turns to crap.
  15. 3.5 hours? Glad I didn't go. I hate long lines. Besides I've been in there at least a hundred times in my life and would probably been very disappointed to see it in such despair. Enjoying all the pictures though and would have liked to have seen Cruuuuuuuuuuuuzzzzz.
  16. I'm enjoying watching the construction cam.
  17. Restore it to what? It hasn't changed in 60 years. Go back to wood bleachers instead of metal?
  18. I agree. Decent movie and fun to watch the parts filmed in Houston. I had a hard time identifying the neighborhoods the houses were in though.
  19. And they are one of the few schools in the state with student athletes that actually attend classes and walk away with real degrees. Having a good athletic program at Rice does not take away from the academic side. A good balance between nerds and jocks is important.
  20. Actually the first plan WAS to construct on the north side but because half the campus electricity flows through the switchgear room located just outside the north side wall they shifted to a plan involving the south side. Now they are back to their original plan. I guess because they found the half million dollars to reroute the electricity. I'm assuming the existing Rice locker room will now become the visitors room, which would be a slight improvement other the existing visitors locker room which looks like a 50 year old middle school locker room. That's one reason marquee teams won't play at Rice stadium. It is embarrassingly small and run down. Love the photo renderings of a completely full stadium. Rice hasn't seen that many people for a football game since the 50's. Still, I'm glad to see they are moving on with this. Even though Rice football doesn't attract a crowd like they once did they deserve better. All the other sport facilities on campus have seen major upgrades in the last 20 years.
  21. I wonder about parking also. Hope it's not going to be like the Richmond location that is valet only. That was one of the reasons I liked the 1308 location.
  22. I know there is another thread about attracting tourist to Houston so I won't get into it here, but it's a shame Houston has nothing like this any more. It was a great place to take out of town guests to. I didn't realize it was only around for 2 years. I remember being surprised when it closed. Always seemed so busy.
