  1. This somewhat bizarre "You know you want a (Chevy) truck" video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJBRpylC9-Q
  2. I like it! It's really better than I had hoped for. To me it's a great addition for this part of downtown.
  3. This is already out of date if there are new projects in the block north of Metro and by Toyota Center. Also 103 N Jackson and Solero, both north of the ballpark.
  4. I'm a wee disappointed in the lack of gargoyles, but life goes on, one supposes.
  5. So this is the block facing Root Square right across from Toyota Center then. I hadn't picked up on a Camden project there.
  6. So condos are creeping downtown after all! The design is nicer than most of the multi-family units.
  7. You have one of the best possible views for downtown construction: Texaco, Six Houston Center, HSPVA, Hampton Inn, Block 98, Marriott Convention Center, and the Houston First building/garage/hotel. Color me envious!
  8. Seriously? Not all downtown residential development is "cutting edge architecture". It's not like the experience of seeing cutting edge architecture is some sort of mystical experience that miraculously changes people's taste in or budgets for food. Look around NY. There are plenty of quick and easy delis around. My point is that just because development is downtown we can't assume that it will all be inhabited by wealthy people who must have exclusive restaurants and retail. Thinking of downtown as an enclave for the rich or "upscale" is not only factually wrong, but risks hurting development in the long run.
  9. Well, perhaps not a Golden Corral, but some inexpensive restaurants would be just the thing. Something like Jason's Deli, Panera Bread or Chipotle would do killer business.
  10. Peculiar name aside, I really do like this project. Five years ago I never would have believed that the eastern slice of downtown would become a hotbed of high-rise residential development. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the next big downtown wave is going to be restaurant development. All of those people living downtown are going to want places to eat after the tunnels close in the evening.
  11. Anyone heard of this? It was on one of those clickbait lists of America's top haunted homes. http://www.theguardian.com/cities/gallery/2014/oct/30/american-horror-story-real-haunted-houses-halloween-in-pictures
  12. Let's keep the discussion away from Dallas please. Where a hotel is located in Dallas has nothing to do with this topic.
  13. Do they look at things like interest rates, oil prices, etc? If so I could see why they might want to wait until things shake out.
  14. What was the big bike store that was on Kirby near Times? Loved that place.
  15. Note a post about family-owned grocers got its own topic here: http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/31340-any-family-owned-grocers/
  16. Done. Thank you sir. This is such a primo location. Whatever is planned for the site is going to be major.
  17. That's cool. Thanks for sharing that. I definitely plan on checking out the inside and maybe even spending a night sometime. I hope that you guys don't mind the honesty of some of the comments here on HAIF!
  18. Thanks, that makes sense. For some reason I had the southwest corner of downtown in my mind as the terminus.
  19. Do they know where the Dallas station wold be located?
  20. Artist studios downstairs, loft apartments for the artists upstairs.
  21. I'm kind of sad to see the Houston Club Building gone. Probably not many people feel this way, but I always thought it was a really urbane design. The garage was well-integrated, the whole structure wasn't just some glass box, and it worked well with the neighboring Gulf and Esperson buildings. The 700 block of Travis, faced with the Gulf Building and the Houston Club, was always one of my favorite downtown blocks.
