  1. I wished market street would have added some apartments. I agree, watching the kids play in the center was nice. I think Market street can go a little further. Who knows? They are completely finished with it. I've been to the sugarland town center once. I was impressed with it too. I find the Sugarland one feels a little more dense (my view of urban) than the woodlands one. I do agree they both achieved their objective, but I just prefere the Sugarland one. I was hoping the market street development would have been connected to the Mall and on the waterway. It feels a little disconnected.
  2. I mean town center and not Market Street. The town center has the condos and apartments along the riverway with the hotels and a small convention center. There are also offices and and some commercial development. Market street to me has a lot to go to impress me. I think sugarland is doing it better.
  3. The below paragraphs are from the website: ANWR.org Residents of ANWR Support The residents of Kaktovik, the only people living on the Coastal Plain of ANWR, support oil and gas development in their 'back yard'. Alaska's indigenous people have benefited greatly from North Slope production. In addition to providing a tax base for the local government, oil development has provided jobs, funding for water and sewer systems and schools. Native and village corporations with oil field-related subsidiaries are working on the North Slope, and the local government has a voice in permitting and environmental regulation. Organizations representing the residents of the Coastal Plain and surrounding area such as the City of Kaktovic, Kaktovik Inupiat Corporation, North Slope Borough, Arctic Slope Regional Corp., Doyon Regional Corporation and Alaskan Federation of Natives have all endorsed development based on their experience with Prudhoe Bay. This webstie is an extensive resource on ANWR from the people who look after it in Alaska. Also check this about the G'wich Nation: Natives (pdf file)
  4. Why not? It not just ANWR. There are bunch of wildlife areas that were used as cattle ranches in the west that Clinton took from these people to become a governement wildlife refuge. The reason? The environmental lobby knew there were oil reserves that made Saudi Arabia look like a couple of drops and ANWR look a little smaller. Why lock up this land when it was currently being used as a cattle ranch. The citizens in UTAH and parts of Wyoming were quite pissed about this. The weren't allowed to even go the photo op of Clinton signing their land away. Don't forget about Canada. They have oil reserves they are dying to have Amercian oil companies develop and pump down to the US since Canada will never need it all. They would make a nice profit from all this oil. Also, nmainguy I don't know which few Eskimos of this tribe you are talking about, but most of them have added their names to a state petition for support of the drilling.
  5. Yeah, You have to define urban before you start using it. It has many meaning to many people. To me, that development in Atlanta is no different than the Woodlands towncenter, Sugarland towncenter, and the new Kingwood towncenter which is comming soon. Rice Village is good example of a natural towncenter that didn't require a developer masterplanning it. The Atlantic Station is nice, but then again, why are we trying to compare Atlanta and Houston?
  6. They did go in drag to the academy awards after their song was nominated from the movie. Also, I've heard savages view of gays. I don't completely agree. To some extent I do. I agree about the radical and sometimes militant activist that do nothing more than make more people not accept gays. It's the same way I feel about far right wing conservatives that sometimes make the majority of conservatives seem crazy. Of course both sides have this. The liberals have Moveon.org, Michael Moore, and many other insightful groups.
  7. Are you a traffic engineer? If you reviewed the schematics you see that the new Katy Freeway layout will "spider" the ramps. The methodoloty will allow exit traffic to back up on the feeder roads long before the mainlanes feel the effects. The cocept is already completed on westbound portions outside the beltway. When you exit Fry, you are far enough away that the cross street will not affect the mainlane traffic. Please don't throw around insults when you don't know what you are talking about. The old exit ramp layouts were designed for the heavy volume of traffic. The new configuration begin used on the Katy has been used on other areas of Houston with great success.
  8. ^^^ Yeah, pretty much. It's also funny how Michaels books always do good on the Best Sellers list but he get's no press or good placement in bookstores.
  9. Being from Louisiana, I have no problem with the Saints leaving. If you look at it from the revenue to the city, the Saints didn't generate that much. I think this will help New Orleans start over too with a clean slate. The city doesn't need a team.
  10. Good point. I could see it as the FSW unit. I don't see the NFL pregame and halftime show coming from the Woodlands.
  11. I'm glad we can amuse you, And for my next trick...... I like these discussions sometimes, as long as we don't go to mud slinging. I don't like to personally attack people on here too. I'm not tring to convert people, but I have no problem displaying my position.
  12. Are you sure that said Houston? I mean, I thought Houston was in a downward spiral in conventions. I mean, would couldn't attract one if we built a brand new hotel and built out our convention facilities. (sarcasm in case anyone missed it) Also, I know that there is a proposal out for the Astrodome conversion, but does anyong think there will be new hotels or mass rennovations of the existing ones around Reliant. The place is becoming another major convention area. Another neat concept, both convention areas are on the same LRT line.
  13. Also, it was my volvo dealler that told me not to come in for oil changes at 3000 miles. I'd figure he would be all for it since they would be charging me for services. He told me 7500 miles and don't worry about three months thing. I've been doing this for about three years. I haven't had any problems with my engine with this oil changing pattern. The price was good too. It cost me $27 for the sevice and that includes a car wash. Wal-Mart is $24-27 (depending on brand of oil) and you don't get the wash.
  14. Yeah, I think we can impose similar restriction on ANWR like the ones put on the Alaskan Pipeline. Also with the technology to do angular drilling, the drills can set up shop on a small parcel, and drill all across ANWAR without touching it. The reason for putting some of the facility on the reserve is endow all the oil from that to the US. Look, know is for taking over the entire reserve. The oil companies have their own team of scientist (that take a lot of pride in there work) that work in conjuction with universities and other labs just make sure environmental impact is minimal. It's required alread by federal law to produce environmental impact studies. Outside of some blind hatred of the oild company or anyone with ® after their name, there aren't many reason's to not want this. Most of the people opposing this are on a bandwagon wearing glasses so thick they can't see reality.
  15. Yippee! Hey, If you use synthetic oil, you can wait out the three thousand miles instead going in every three months. Actually, I go 7500 miles per change on mine with synthetic.
  16. I'm guessing this is the TV and radio stuff and not the restraunt?
  17. ^^ That pretty much why i'm happier being gay and conservative. I find I can live my life with all the weight of self guilt my liberal friends always carry. I started seeing that life wasn't always about the next thing to complain about. Instead, I like to enjoy life and the challenges it presents. It's a more positive way of enjoying life. It's also why I'd rather listen to radio shows that generally back my view. I may not always agree with them, but that's where the talk in talk radio comes from. It's about logical discussion instead emotional tirades. Also, morning shows like Roula and Ryan just aren't part of a money making model anymore. Morning radio shows will go the way of the Newspaper and National Network news. The listener, readers, and watchers want more than what they are being given. People are looking for talent and not a formula based show cooked up by the station managers.
  18. Ok, I guess you guys didn't read my post. I'm not stupid to believe not wildlife in in ANWR, but the area of ANWR where drilling is planned doesn't have much wild life. The impact would be minimal. These species: caribou, polar bears, muskoxen, arctic foxes, wolverines, grizzlies and millions of migratory birds populate the southern and easter portions of the reserve. The driling would be on the far north side. Actually, right next to current oil operations and an airport that his currently built. ANWR is going find with those facilities. Tell the Alaskan voter that they don't want the drilling. They'll tell you something completely different.
  19. Glad to see this project moving forward. I know it's been in the pipeline. And with only 30 condo units, they won't have to rely on presales to get the project moving.
  20. How am I self loathing for being gay and conservative? The conservative view is more positive and uplifting. I find liberals to generally be more mired in self hate. They blame anything in the world on America and believe that the US is alway the problem. Who's self loathing now? Also: Conservative does not equal Republican Conservatives aren't locked to one party. I'm registered as independant. How would you explain that I voted for Bill White?
  21. Where did Rush talk about morality in the statement? He talked about legality. He did break the law, and he went into rehab as a first offense. Not much more or less than other first time drug offenders of a prescription drug. He had a prescription that he abused. The abuse is linked to an addiction. This happens to a lot people on pain and other medication that have narcotic properties. He actually was in compliance with the state he made. He went into rehab as was demanded by the court. Where's the hypocrisy? Should anyone who had a drug problem not be able to take the stance that illegal drug use should be prosecuted? It seems like he would have a more valid viewpoint from his experience. Glenn Beck, before becoming a talk show host, was an alcoholic and drug user. He has reformed and got his life back on track. I think he is a better person now after going through the experience. None of these guys claim to be saints. And if they do, they are wrong for it. Michael savaged is a very hardened person. I don't aggree with everything he says, but he does open your eyes. He not necessary just some radio idiot. He has lots of credentials behind more than any other radio show host. Also, most of these guys are far from talking head for the administration and republicans. They actually have been some of the harshest critics. They rail against Bush for immigration and over spending. They go after the congress for spending like drunken sailors.
  22. And I'm not saying a complete makeover and redo. Most of the storefront can be easily restored to their former glory. I think the area could be revitalized. Build some urban apartments and condos along with some revamped retail and restraunts, an the area could be a great asset. In the process, areas can be set up for the festivals that are hosted in the area too.
  23. And Air America is a blinding show of morality? D Also, just from the statements you guys are spouting, I can tell that you haven't truly listened to any of their shows. You would realize that they are nothing like you are characterizing them to be. Rush never talks about morals are moral superiority. It's not what his show is about. He doesn't even go to church. His show is about conservative ideals which have nothing to do with christianity and church going. Some conservative talk radio is too much for me such as Sean Hannity. He's too much for the show and fame and not about the talk. I like Rush, Glenn, and Michael Savage. Also, Michael Savage is religionless but believes in god. These guys don't hide who they are and don't preach that everybody should be such a way. If they do, I'd like for you show me. Also, if they were all preachy, they wouldn't have such a fan base. The success of Talk Radio has showed people the lack of information they have been getting from traditional news sources.
  24. I guess that what you get with the international style of architecture. I'm think you can have an office space with few walls (open concept). Of course this doesn't work for all business. How are the office currently in the building for Exxon? It must be a little functional, but I guess they dont' have any large rooms though.
  25. It's worked that way for years. What do you think the Mayor is doing running around demolishing abandoned and unsafe houses. It's been a way to remove blight. Also, since the people living in these houses are renting, the landlord will probably sell before it gets condemn.
