  1. I loved Allegro! Thanks, I forgot about that place. I used to work at Dolce & Freddo when I was like 14. I even served liquor in those capps! haha Best gelato & sorbetto too. Grotto has pretty good capps too. Sorry you can't drink the real thing anymore:(
  2. I agree. But I can guarantee you the Magnolia, the Icon, and the Lancaster aren't seeing those numbers.
  3. Oh man, all of the coffee places referenced above are awful! You guys are missing out. My favorite coffe place has the best cappuccinos in town. I like Croissant Brioche in the Village. It's a french bakery that has been there for years. Lots of International people hang out there. I think they use Illy espresso. It's the bomb. And their croissants, pasteries, and croc monsieurs are awesome! Agora on Westheimer is fun because of the people watching. All kinds of characters in there. Plus, they serve wine! Even better. Empire Cafe down the street is pretty good too. As they say, "Corporate Coffee Sucks."
  4. Omni Houston, Hilton Garden begin construction Two Houston hotels have broken ground on new projects. Omni Houston Hotel broke ground Wednesday at Four Riverway in the Galleria area on what will be an expanded ballroom and spa. When finished in June 2008, the hotel will have 26,000 square feet of ballroom space and a 6,800-square-foot spa. The general contractor for the project is Turner Construction Co., and the architect is Morris Architects, which designed the hotel, originally built in 1981. The spa, set to open in August 2008, will be for hotel guests as well as Houston residents. Meanwhile, American Liberty Hospitality has broken ground on a new Hilton Garden Inn at Interstate 10 and Dairy Ashford Road. The Houston-based company's hotel, to be completed in August 2008, will house a combination restaurant/lounge and Hilton Garden Inn's signature Pavilion Pantry offering sundries, beverages, microwavable foods and snacks.
  5. I saw them in Vegas and they are awesome! Totally entertaining. You should go.
  6. The hotels downtown are really struggling right now. All of downtown is. The Icon is in deep trouble. They sold the Whiskey and Bank sucks. I spoke to a former manager from there last night as a matter of fact. I hear Morton's is in trouble too. They're stupid for opening down there anyway, and even more stupid for not opening for lunch. They're way down at McKinney, away from everything. Not smart. W would do much better in the Galleria.
  7. I was one of the first residents there in 1999. The tower wasn't built yet. I had a great view of downtown until they resurrected that building. I posted earlier in the Bayou Bend post that Post cut some corners with the interiors for sure like, tile, granite, fixtures, hardware, etc. I also lived at Post Rice Hotel downtown. Although they cut some interior corners, you can't beat the location and the urban feel of the mixed-use and all of the places surrounding it. And the pools are great. If you are young, like to be in the ox and have a pretty good income I recommend it. I have not heard of anyone who didn't like living there.
  8. It's small minded to generalize/assume that because someone has money, they're a snob. It's like saying something ridiculous like someone who lives in a less affluent neighborhood is poor and ignorant. I sense some jealousy in your friend's statement.
  9. I still disagree. He cannot expect Houston to be like Philly. That's an old city where everything is in a concentrated area. This is Texas, where everything is bigger, newer and more spread out. He is around the corner from West Gray, literally, so it's perfect with great views of downtown and the bayou. It's a great place. And by the way Regent Square is "supposed" to break ground in August with Phase 1 is scheduled to be completed in 2010, Phase II in 2014. So that is waaaaay down the road.
  10. Like Red Scare, I have to disagree with Kinkaid. It's geographically VERY desireable. The only other place that I would consider if I were you is Midtown, such as Post Midtown Square because it is a mixed-use development just blocks from your office. I used to live there and I loved it. Too bad the trolleys don't run anymore. Bayou Bend is actually a little more luxurious, Post cut some corners with tile, counters, hardware, stuff like that but you can't beat the location and the proxinity to all of the restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. If you are unsure, I would look into Post Midtown Square. But you are in good shape at Bayou Bend.
  11. River Oaks Cleaners is in the same strip center as Texadelphia and Starbucks which is right next to you. They're pretty good. It's a luxury high rise with proximity and views.
  12. I live down the street in 77007. Nice property. Easy access down Memorial to your office. It's probably 5 minutes with no traffic lights once you get out of your garage to downtown's edge. Memorial Park is down the street. Exactly 3 mile jog. Very pretty. Great people watching, especially if you run counter clockwise like I do. Closest grocery is Kroger on W. Gray, not far. If you're a guy you'll love it-TRUST ME. Prime Time is 5-9. haha Hey if you're moving from Philly there is a Philly sub place next to your new casa called Texadelphia.
  13. I don't like those dreams because I'm always hiding from terrorists, Nazis, robbers and bad guys then just as they are about to discover me I get out of my hiding place and fly away, sometimes dropping back down to the ground near where they are and trying to fly up again. And I can only hold one cat so I have to choose between my two. It's terrible. I wish I could go on a joy ride, I'll have to work on that.
  14. I saw all of those concerts except Journey which I saw later in the Woodlands with Styx. White Zombie was good. So was Alice n Chains/Faith No More. I've seen so many more but you guys will laugh cause it's like Janet and people like that.
  15. My first concert there was Cindy Lauper, second was Michael Jackson Bad tour. First rock concert was Guns N Roses. I had whiplash for a week! Ozzy was pretty memorable too. I think it's hilarious that what was once a venue full of sin is now a cult, I mean church:)
  16. I probably wouldn't do a B&B in San Fran unless you drive out to Carmel. Hotels in the city near all the restaurants etc is really cool. And there probably aren't many time shares in the city either.
  17. I just got back from Vegas Sunday and won my ass off. The tables are hot and I barely spent any of my own money! The pool at Mandalay is awesome. It's hot as hell, but there is tons to do and you can do it pretty cheaply. I still vote San Fran though. You can do it on a budget. I'm having lunch in an hour with my friend who is flying in from San Francisco if there's anything you want me to ask about.
  18. More like a scene from Pretty Woman. St. Regis has same "guests.". They will probably relocate to Zaza.
  19. I fly. Quite often actually. Not so much as a joy ride though, usually as an escape meachanism. But the thing is, it's like a fake flight. I am always trying not to fall. And it's roof top to roof top flying. I've always wondered what this meant. Oh and I have to make a running start. Weird.
  20. What rock are you living under? I did some PR for them way back when. Not sure why it changed to Luxury Hotel then St. Regis. None of the other ones have done that. The restaurant is still pretty good there, particularly Sunday brunch but the hotel and rooms are old. There are better, newer, cooler places to stay now. Besides the hooker factor:) haha
  21. the photo opps in San Fran are amazing. FYI-Chicago is hot as hell in the summer and they don't have airconditioning like we do. It's better to go in the spring.
  22. Mandarin will go to Vegas way before it will ever be here. We will be bottom of the tothem poll on that one. Peninsula too. The W we can accomodate I'm pretty sure.
  23. The project is breaking ground in August and they are very much on schedule. The project really focuses on sustainability, especially in regard to a pedestrian friendly environment. It's going to be a really cool project actually. It's the largest of 9 mixed-use projects currently under way or already approved in Houston. The renderings you've seen don't really do it justice. It is going to have a pretty traditional look as the developers are from Boston. Below is the project detail info. Regent Square, a walk-able mixed-use urban village, is being completed on a 24-acre site on Houston
  24. No renderings yet, they are still meeting with archi's. I'm getting a little insider info so I will keep you posted as much as I can.
  25. None of your choices will be cheap, besides, you want to have fun and not worry about money so save your pennies. San Fran in the summer is gorgeous and of course it's very gay friendly. You can go to Sausalito and have lunch and drinks on the water. You can drive an hour and a half to Napa and Sonoma and go wine tasting. Sit in Golden Gate park and have a picnic, Fisherman's Warf and see the seals/sea lions. The weather is seriously amazing, the architecture is gorgeous, the people are great, go to the Bubble Room if you like champagne. You can even drive out to Carmel and Big Sur. The drive on Hwy 1 is crazy amazing. I vote San Fran all the way!!! (Although I'm a huge gambler, going tomorrow actually)
