  1. Demo equipment has been removed, but the brick structure remains (perhaps for good). Demo rubble and stray trees have been cleaned. Archcon trailers on-site. Guess they are full speed ahead now.
  2. Y'all, STCL is never going to get rid of their parking, sorry. The students have nowhere to park. The two tiny lots aren't enough for even a third of the school's students. Attempts have been made to get the board to approve the construction of a garage on the faculty lot, which is much bigger, but it routinely gets dismissed. We'll all be deep in the cold, cold, ground before STCL gives up those lots.
  3. Update: most of the building is down. Still going to try and take a photo of the "Optimism Starts with You" mural as it gets demolished.
  4. "similar construction for illustrative purposes only" Yeah, cause the real one looks like shit.
  5. It is quite possible that PNC will be used as a practice facility. That said, there should be more than enough parking at PNC now for teams, equipment, media, etc. Highly doubt it needs expanding just for that.
  6. You have no idea how much I love this picture. Before I started at UH (09) my optometrist told me not to get too attached to campus because every year at least one building will come down, two will go up, and by the time I graduate, the whole place will look completely different. He was quite correct.
  7. He's clearly been taking a back seat for a while, letting Nick Wong and Nick Fine run everything. With just about all of his restaurants closing last year, I'm not surprised to see him go. Let someone else deal with opening all those restaurants at once. Chris has made a huge mark on the Houston food scene and we are all better off for it.
  8. I think everyone's concerns could be mitigated with a below grade crossing. Let's do it. It may cost more, but god damn if it doesn't hit every requirement for the area.
  9. I drive there often. I do agree about the trees. A lot. Love me some nice trees. I don't know if I agree so much re: bus highway. Busses (and plenty of cars) already roar up and down that street, so I don't see much of a difference.
  10. I'm curious (in all honesty) how this destroys the neighborhood. It looks like the Overpass is built over the existing roadway. Based on the video rendering, I don't even see any buildings/homes in the area missing.
  11. Like a giant glass scar down the side of an already hideous beast. I do like the updated landscaping at the jury assembly building.
  12. Alley Theatre received a $25 Million gift today and will be renaming the 615 Texas Ave building the "Meredith J. Long Theatre Center" in honor of the deceased Chairman. Based on the gift amount, I suspect there will be additional renovations as well. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/lifestyle/article/Exclusive-Alley-Theatre-to-be-renamed-after-17269041.php?fbclid=IwAR12meZVbGuXD9cPsbrVKSScm7Zrm-oQvJmpiEGnTzrKcRu4zKeeZr7pNWg
  13. You are correct. The complex owned by Marquette is 2404 Navigation. Renovation of 2311 Canal was originally in Marquette's plans, but, we will see.
  14. That's what we saw as well. Plus, the sign in the Glassell courtyard says no "professional photography without permit." Which, not professionals and we asked permission. Ours was actually off Montrose when he complained. Eitherway, it's whatever. Excellent photos that you took! The while lot is lovely!
  15. That we had a drone, lol. Nothing in the park area around it says "no drones" and we had checked with the museum beforehand, just in case. Museum had no complaints. Probably just a security guy on his high horse.
  16. Did security get mad at you for taking this? My friends and I were recording a buddy's proposal using drones at the top of the Glassell building and got a stern lecture for it.
  17. East End is about to be the roundabout capitol of Houston.
  18. This is the building Abraham Watkins is in, yes? If so, yes. It floods frequently.
  19. Unfortunately, it seems as though Night Shift closed due to a disagreement between ownership and talent that lead to an employee walk-out.
