  1. market street reports..."Openings scheduled by this fall include Schilleci’s New Orleans Kitchen where diners can enjoy the restaurant’s unique taste of New Orleans with great-tasting gumbo, hearty po-boys and other favorites. Another Market Street newcomer is The Cupcakery, a family-owned business with locations in Las Vegas and Dallas where more than one million cupcakes have been enjoyed." a flying saucer town center location rumor has resurfaced....could be a good sign. although disappointed that a red onion concept did not materialize in the sirenuse' space at 24 waterway, the (fingers crossed) soon to be announced location taker will surely make other suburbs green with envy. a martini bar concept is about to pop up somewhere in town center. an eye witness noticed some official looking "look-see" going on at the old chocolata location across from hubbell & hudson recently. do not know if the two are related, but the location would be great for a non-brew serving type establishment. on the roxx, maybe? shenandoah's portofino center may be getting a spring creek bbq location along with the bj's restaurant & brewhouse currently under construction. alden bridge residents will have a new healthy eatery featuring gluten free menu items, near rico's in the alden bridge shopping center. lest i forget, kita, the new japanese restaurant at 24 waterway is delicious (and beautiful)! the woodlands township recently approved a $25K study for a permanent performing arts location in town center. the waterway marriott is undergoing or about to undergo a multi-million dollar update. the senior living center on the waterway at grogan's mill is topped out....still anxious about the facade. i so hope they don't go "brick"! give me cement, steel, glass or stone please.
  2. walmart at this location will be a big success.....and if it doesn't look like every other walmart, great. (....and yes, i like to do the clicky ratings buttons without explanation. you can't make me talk! some people don't want to get into the mix but want to be a part of it on some level. no need to call them out, it's kinda unfriendly.)
  3. added several historic houston items today. a cousin forwarded several scans of houston places and people recently: pictures include the alabama theater, marvin zindler, 7 eleven, humble oil gas station, blue grass inn/kentucky fried chicken, astroworld, shamrock......thought some of you would enjoy.

  13. if you look at the original rendering, there is a "box" with the "E" on it facing dallas. from the rendering, it looks as if the hotel faces dallas rather than the park. check out the picture on the mgmt company's website: http://www.amliberty.com/Projects/tabid/74/Default.aspx

  19. your spaghetti monster reminds me of elsworth toohey's "headless monster - prestige". toohey is lecturing keating about the collectivist world to come..."A world in which man will not work for innocent an incentive as money.....The approval of his fellows-their good opinion-the opinion of men who'll be allowed no opinion. An octopus, all tentacles and no brain." well, ...

  21. rumor has it that carlton woods is releasing all "held properties" in anticipation of exxon's consolidation. the new village of creekside park, which includes carlton woods creekside, stands to benefit.

  23. From GHPA website: "UH was founded in 1927 as a junior college meeting in borrowed rooms at San Jacinto High School, but it quickly grew into a four-year university and moved to its current campus, designed by the noted landscape architects Hare & Hare, in 1939. As enrollment skyrocketed after World War II, UH retained some of Houston's most famous architects, including John Staub, MacKie & Kamrath and Alfred C. Finn, to expand its original Art Deco campus. The result is a group of buildings ranging from the traditional deco Roy G. Cullen Memorial (1939) to César Pelli's modern Science and Engineering Research and Classroom Complex (2005, pictured)." "Tickets will be sold beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Park, located just east of the Moores School of Music Building at UH Entrance 16 off Cullen Boulevard. [map] Free parking is available in UH Lot 16B (a permit is not required on Sundays)."
