http://impactnews.com/articles/lanye-christensen-announces-relocation-to-the-woodlands/ Layne Christensen moving headquarters from Kansas to Hughes Landing. How many billion dollar companies are now located in The Woodlands, I wonder.

Master Planned Community: North Freeway At Grand Parkway
bachanon replied to editor's topic in Other Houston Neighborhoods
"master planned" 692 acres of new homes? i guess anything with infrastructure is called "master planned" these days. looks like another cookie cutter subdivision and just a stone's throw from old town spring crack houses. exciting.............- 6 replies

do you think the east coast disaster will have an effect on the outcome of the election? will the disaster give more opportunities for voter fraud? will it help or hurt incumbents? do you wish the election were over? frankly, i'm tired of politics; however, i do not think the election unimportant. i wonder if there are districts in the disaster area where voting regulations will be loosened (id checks, handwritten or punched ballots) to "help".

One rainy Sunday in Frankfurt, Germany
bachanon replied to editor's topic in Pictures From The Rest of the World
nice! thanks for sharing. -
happy about the ground floor retail too. however, what retail, other than restaurants, might be feasible in this location? you can't bank on convention business alone. there aren't enough residents or out of town shoppers for clothing. chain stores not dependent on the success of one location perhaps?

10 Waterway Ave: Office Building In The Woodlands
bachanon replied to lockmat's topic in Points North
http://www.thewoodlands-commercial.com/pdf/wwsq_brochure.pdf found superblock east. it appears there are two towers with distinct features outlined. i'm not sure where the estimate for a floor count is coming from.- 63 replies

10 Waterway Ave: Office Building In The Woodlands
bachanon replied to lockmat's topic in Points North
the existing anadarko tower is 800,000 square feet with what appears to be a narrower floor plate; hence the taller structure. also, consider that 10 waterway avenue may have retail facing the waterway, the extended waterway square south and facing waterway avenue......around the perimeter of the parking garage.- 63 replies

24 waterway is 308,000 square feet including the retail, 14 stories on the right of the picture above. 10 waterway avenue is at least 20 stories tall with a larger floor plate.- 63 replies

10 Waterway Ave: Office Building In The Woodlands
bachanon replied to lockmat's topic in Points North
if you look at the map, the three shorter building are on timberloch. the big building, 10 waterway, looks like a mixed use with parking. residential brownstones or townhomes lining the waterway square "extension" from the waterway to timberloch and more residential on the south side of timberloch behind the three shorter buildings. oh well, i wonder if they will have pre-construction discounts on the residential.......- 63 replies

10 Waterway Ave: Office Building In The Woodlands
bachanon replied to lockmat's topic in Points North
that's just it fortune........there were three shorter buildings planned for the "super block" on the south side of waterway square...that opened up to and complimented waterway square on the north and now this monstrosity. it wouldn't bother me so much if it was offset from the waterway, like 24 waterway in front of the fountain. 24 waterway is 14 stories and set back. the hotel will be similar to 24 waterway in height (at least it was, who knows now). i can't tell from the rendering, but retail on the first floor and around the second fountain would soften it at the pedestrian level. at least that may still happen. it just rubs me wrong....like "hughes landing" at lake woodlands. they are abandoning even the "woodlands way" of naming things. hughes landing is a pr name for the howard hughes corporation. just stupid. don't get me wrong...i love a new tall structure just for the childlike satisfaction it brings; but why mess with a good thing? 10 waterway is TOO TALL for that location.- 63 replies

10 Waterway Ave: Office Building In The Woodlands
bachanon replied to lockmat's topic in Points North
yup. that must be the 600k square foot building. howard hughes sucks. they are going to completely f up the waterway square plan by placing a really tall building right on the waterway. it takes away from the human scale originally planned around waterway square.. they are going for bang for the buck. it dwarfs the brownstones and lofts. i can see they are giddy to maximize profits at the cost of good planning. just stick the most square footage where the demand is greatest regardless of the scale. ridiculous. booooooo!- 63 replies

niche the sycophant! hardly. houston is enormous with too little concentrations of people and/or businesses. we need mass transit only where we need it. the region is too big and spread out for mass transit to solve all of our needs.......hence, the auto is ideal for a city like houston. not pretty, not my dream for a livable city, just a fact.

I-45 Rebuild (North Houston Highway Improvement Project)
bachanon replied to ToryGattis's topic in Traffic and Transportation
i vote to dismantle i-45 through downtown between the north and south loops. make i-45 a grand boulevard from the north to south loop. rename it of course. add direct connect lanes around the loop to reconnect with i-45 for pass through traffic. build the university line and other short distance transportation options inside the loop. ....back from la la land: any options to eliminate elevated freeways around the city's core is a plus. the roundabout idea does not sound as if it will accomplish a better urban fabric only help traffic move through the city quicker. why not consider alternatives that accomplish both better traffic control and less freeway "barriers" separating and dividing neighborhoods.- 3,370 replies

unfortunately, builders "target" lots that are available and have the most potential for a successful investment. it isn't like they pick and choose which is the most visually unappealing to redevelop.
