  1. New Opening day! I guess this means we should expect to see this break ground within the next couple of months? Side note, we have one of the ugliest renderings out of all their projects :)
  2. This will completely change Midtown, the Museum district, and Houston as a whole! A tower here will dramatically change our entire skyline, and eventually..... we'll have a continuous skyline from Downtown to the Medical Center! Herman park can act like our central park 😂
  3. Wow our downtown is really exploding. How is it doing compared to other cities like Chicago/ Dallas/ LA. Is this happening nationwide, or are we a little hot?
  4. @monarch might be referring to the traffic light wires, which I agree could use an update. It doesn't make sense how they haven't updated this light and the one on Westheimer and Weslayan.
  5. Since we're throwing around ideas 😂, it would be amazing if Starbucks built a Starbucks Reserve here/in the area. This location is always packed so I know it would do well here. I'm sure everyone already knows what Starbucks Reserve is, but for those who don't, its basically like a MEGA Starbucks. They have "gourmet food," a full bakery, even cocktails/ alcoholic drinks! Theres only 6 in the world, but who knows.
  6. I would have thought this project is a top priority considering how busy Westheimer is and how bad the road condition is. You legit can't drive on the right side of lower Westheimer (both ways) for a majority of street. There's way too many potholes, so we basically have 1 way of mediocre street in the middle going both ways.
  7. I assumed it was the entire site since the map shows the old Luby's and pinpoints the center location of the building.
  8. Site of the old Luby's. I tried to research "The Haig & Hien Papaian Trust" who seem to be the owners, and they own the restaurant "Savoir" in the heights.
  9. Wait so does this mean something big is going to happen to that giant shopping center?
  10. I live in district J near uptown and let me tell you...... he has not done a single thing for the area. Whats ironic is that his "issues" listed on his website is to "update bike trails" and "beautification of trails and bike lanes." The homeless situation is a lot worse, the streets are in horrible condition, absolutely 0% increase in the 0% bike lanes we have in the area. Multiple residents have sent him emails about multiple inquiries getting vague responses or no response at all. Im tired of these politicians contradicting themselves.
  11. 🥲 what happened to those trees that were on the median in front of this project
  12. I noticed that some of the electricity/ utility poles along Westpark dr. are getting replaced. Does CenterPoint energy (or whichever energy company) plan to replace all of the old ones to those simpler/ less cluttered poles. The newer ones look a lot more organized IMO. Excuse my lack of knowledge for any of this information, I'm not an electricity expert 😅, I just think the newer poles look a lot nicer than the older ones.
  13. It's crazy how our most popular/ busiest streets are the ones that are in the worst shape. Westheimer (lower), Washington, Shepherd/Durham, etc, but they're all pretty much getting re-designed and rebuilt! Imagine what our city is going to look like in the future when these streets are brought up to date. Imagine the bike network we're going to have! This city is definitely moving forward and its on fire! Some of these completed streets w/ bike lanes look EXACTLY if not better than some of the streets I saw in Europe (Sweden/ Denmark)
  14. Fingers crossed that we finally get an actual traffic signal arm instead of those wires on Westheimer/Drexel and Westheimer/Weslayan.
  15. Most of the homes on the island have that unique victorian/ beach like architecture. This new building matches that "island" aesthetic. Im not sure how a brown box that matches the color of the side walk fits the island. Also, the new building will be brought up close to the street so it will have a larger street presence and the upgraded landscape/ palm trees is another plus. Don't get me wrong, I love midcentury buildings, but having them on the island seawall tucked behind an asphalt parking lot/driveway doesn't really make sense in my opinion. To each their own I guess 🤷‍♂️
  16. Demolition and rebuilding the Hometown Bank in Galveston. HUGE upgrade based on how the current bank looks! For perspective, this is what it currently looks like 🤐
  17. I was implying that the city will probably get thousands of tourists going in and around our city (mainly in hotspot areas like Downtown/Midtown/ Museum district/ EADO/ etc). So, they would eventually have to go through this construction loop if its not completed by then (which probably wont due to the delays). I don't think NRG is a big area in terms of tourist attractions (In my opinion).
  18. If this project keeps getting delayed, it's going to be a nightmare if/when FIFA decides to host some of their games here in 2026.
  19. https://www.oma.com Is this the OMA that's going to be the architect? If so, I think we have a really good chance that this is going to be significant! They even did the architecture for POST! Side note, does anyone know roughly when we can see this moving forward?
  20. Design firm EDGECOMB & ASSOCIATES, https://www.edgecombarchitects.com Based on their previous self storage buildings, I don't think this one is going to look the best. However, its better than a parking lot and at least covers some of that brink wall from the AT&T building next door
  21. Multi-story self storage will soon take over another parking lot in downtown. Less than 2 blocks away from the new U-Haul building.
