  1. Anyone who takes 2 suitcases with them on an international flight 💀, I just came back from an international flight and me and my friends each had 2 suitcases.... were we supposed to hold them on our backs 😂
  2. I had no idea! I didn't even know the museum district, downtown, and EADO were all considered 3rd ward! Thanks for the explanation!
  3. https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/business/2021/10/12/410697/shut-out-of-a-contract-a-third-ward-community-coalition-continues-to-fight-for-equitable-development-of-houstons-ion-district/ Im confused? I mean this in no disrespect but why should they care about 3rd ward if they're.....not in 3rd ward? 2nd ward residents seem to be more welcoming of all the projects going on in 2nd ward (EADO for example)
  4. The building is beautiful, I just wish they put more work into the outside landscape/ entrance. Imagine if they built an eye-catching garage on the east or west parking lot and converted the entire front of the building into greenery or something. The outside looks a little, unfinished for something thats practically finished.
  5. I saw this lot get fenced up earlier this week and was wondering if anyone knows what's going on here. This used to be "Chinese cafe" a couple of years ago but it closed down and the lot has been looking like a mess lately, so essentially anything would be nice here........except another gas station lol
  6. Anyone else think this project is going to look good 😅, its going to partially cover Mosaic's garage and have a massive presence on 288.
  7. I saw this lot get gated on my way to work and was wondering if anyone knows whats going on here? Does it have to do with the i59/610 rebuild? There are way too many gas stations in the area (7 in a 1 mile radius), so whatever it is, I'm sure its better than a gas station. IMG_3611.heic
  8. Idk where to post this, but someone made a website similar to Swamplot and thought it was really good! Thought id share it! https://houstonhistoricretail.com
  9. ......another gas station for this area. There are 6 gas stations within a 1 mile radius of this proposed gas station (including a new one right in front of it. Now there are 7 gas stations lol.
  10. I completely agree with Montrose! I feel for those who may have to move, but for the businesses/ churches? The majority of the highway is surrounded by crumbling infrastructure. There are WAY too many billboards and abandoned signs, driveways in mediocre state, and absolutely no landscaping. Im sure every single one of us acknowledge that this highway is an extreme eyesore. I understand that the money could be spent on numerous other projects but this project would be a HUGE positive for Houston. Imagine if this highway ends up looking like the Katy freeway. I know there's still a traffic issue on Katy freeway but its a BEAUTIFUL highway. The highway is surrounded with lush landscape and greenery. Driving from i45 to i10 is like night and day. i45 is by far one of the ugliest highways I've ever seen (and i've been to NY, FL, CA, CO). Its one of the first impressions outsiders get when they travel from the airport and the reason a lot of outsiders say "Houston is ugly". I think the Houston architecture forum should realize that this project is going to beautify our city. Yes public transportation should be our main focus, but THIS highway and the surrounding strip centers needs to be addressed as well. We can pass this project and see an instant improvement to the area, or we can reject it and wait for each and every parcel to be renovated/ rebuild (if and when).......so maybe in the next 100-200 years?
  11. I rode the electric scooters in downtown last weekend with my friends and it was honestly very fun. The streets were way more lively than normal. The scooters also were VERY prevalent in downtown. If you drive around at night on the weekend, you'll be sure to spot at least 20+ scooters.
  12. lol all this for saying we deserve something healthier 😅 my closest friend is a nutritionist and a trainer, but it doesn't take the brightest person to acknowledge that a fast food restaurant like taco bell isn't healthy. Their "beef" was found to have only "36% actual beef" the rest is filler, they even add cocoa powder to the meat to give it color. I can go on and on about how many of these fast food restaurants are not healthy, the internet is free and so are people's will to choose where to eat. All I said was I wish we had healthier options (we have fast food restaurants on almost every single block in the city). These "everything causes cancer" and "water and commies" posts are corny, we have to stop acting like America doesn't have a health problem, America literally has the highest Obesity rate among developed countries. I can go on and on, but we allll know America is very "healthy" and we need to do better.
  13. My bad, just thought others cared about health as much as I do 😅
  14. Hopefully its not another Taco Bell 😅, we deserve better than a restaurant that has a website that tells you their food can cause cancer.
  15. Does anyone have any idea what's going on at 8730 Westheimer? It used to be a run down Splash Hand Car Wash, but it was demolished and is fenced off with heavy activity. Looks like something large scale. Sorry could not get a picture.
  16. The other day I drove down Westheimer from Midtown for the first time in 6 months and WOW. I might sound crazy, but this area is starting to look like Melrose Ave in LA. Not as dense, but I swear it looks like an up and coming Melrose. 101 Westheimer Rd is repainting their buildings from a yellowish color to gray/black/white (matches the Pearl Whole Foods building) 215 Westheimer Rd went from a small building + big parking lot to a massive building with a small/ hidden parking 223 Westheimer Rd went from an old shotgun/suburban looking house to a extremely contemporary white building 243 Westheimer Rd went from an old rundown house/ restaurant + big parking lot to a massive contemporary building with hidden parking 424 Westheimer Rd went from a parking lot to an urban park 516 Westheimer Rd is remodeling and went from an ATROCIOUS Orange/ yellow paint to a dark gray/ black paint job 802 Westheimer Rd went from a shopping center with a huge front lot to whats becoming the Montrose collective 1001 Westheimer Rd.....THIS PROJECT! Even 3207 Montrose Blvd right across this project is undergoing some sort of renovations This is only what I observed and this is only from Bagby to Montrose blvd. If they rebuild the street with wider sidewalks with trees lined up, this area would seriously rival major streets in LA. Side note: I keep referencing LA because I feel like our architecture is most similar to LA compared to east coast cities. Sorry this post is so long 🙃
  17. This is a huge step forward for downtown. The building is absolutely beautiful and it will have amazing unobstructed views. I do sense a missed opportunity, they could have incorporated a rooftop bar/ restaurant/ observation deck overlooking discovery green and the rest of downtown. Not complaining though 😅
  18. I drive from 59 to Holcombe on buffalo speedway everyday and I can't believe it's going to get rebuilt. That portion of buffalo speedway is in EXCELLENT condition. Its so strange to me that this excellent portion is getting rebuilt, yet the portion of buffalo speedway from Holcombe to Main is an absolute nightmare and isn't planned for reconstruction anytime soon. This scenario is similar to Westheimer being in excellent condition in Upper Kirby and 3rd world condition in Lower Westheimer 😕
  19. One less strip center with a giant billboard-like sign, one more beautiful building. Not only is this building modern, but it has dimension (isn't a box) and incorporates multiple elements (isn't all glass). Also, they understand how important it is to place the main showroom close to the Westheimer street level. Everyone driving/walking by will be able to get a glimpse of the inside.
  20. Saw some recent activity on this site. Its right across from the newly opened Atomic Bottle Bar (which is really nice btw) and adjacent to the new gas station they're building on richmond. Also, if I'm posting too much about these smaller projects, just delete them. I'm not sure how relevant these projects are!
  21. This building has a HUGE presence driving east of San Felipe from Post Oak, it looks like you're driving directly towards the building!
  22. This seems like such a prime location, and a Pizza Patron would be extremely disappointing especially since there is a dominos less than 400 feet away.
  23. The first 2 pictures are the front and back of the building as of June. The last picture (taken from the back street) is today 💀
