  1. I don't spill things at Barnes and Noble. But perhaps I'd get the urge to at the Library. LOL
  2. Yeah, it could easily be an area for refreshments and other areas would be no food/drink allowed.
  3. Alright, you win the war of definition, but I am hoping for a modern library with modern conveniences.
  4. My quote: " Nevertheless, libraries must change with the times. There is little to attract me there" I am just saying that libraries, just like any industry must change with the times. People expect a different experience than the ones I had growing up ... I can remember the sun-filled skylights at my little community library down on Orem. Folks these days want a decidedly different experience. At least I do.
  5. Well, it was a landfill at one time. They cleaned it up and now it's a golf course. Not too many trees out there.
  6. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Let's see... Seattle has a coffee cart: http://www.spl.org/default.asp?pageID=bran...d=1180653776339 Chicago has complimentary WiFi: http://www.chipublib.org/aboutcpl/wifi.php ... and they're doing an RFP for a (private?) coffee shop: http://www.chipublib.org/rfp/ NYPL has free Wifi: http://www.nypl.org/branch/services/wifi.html
  7. Since I've been back to Houston in 2004 about 7 times. However it's been closed for a couple of years. Nevertheless, libraries must change with the times. There is little to attract me there and I'm sure others share that opinion. And the main library in Los Angeles. Wonderful.
  8. Hey, if Barnes and Noble can have a coffee section, along with available WiFi, why can't the library?
  9. No bum section that I am aware of, but they need a coffee shop. Really ... libraries have got to keep up with Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, and Borders.
  10. I'm not sure I meant giving them anything. I talked about the abuse someone wished to do to them in response to them saying something about 'someone's' car (not even their's if I remember correctly). Personally I rarely give money. Now, if someone claims they are hungry and I am headed into a restaurant (fast food 'cause I ain't no fool) I will ask them what they want or let them know they can come in and order something and I'll pay for it.
  11. I know this is a well-worn argument, but I cannot believe anyone WANTS to be homeless. Many people have addictions of some sort of another that lead to their homelessnes, others mental issues. I certainly don't believe they should be abused (punched) or shipped off (cattle car comment). Have we lost ALL compassion and civility?
  12. Why? What's so bad about it? I don't care for Katy (or Pearland for that matter), but it seems like a nice enough place.
  13. Question: Is WiFi working down there yet? I'd heard they were gonna have WiFi.
  14. Someone mentioned that Jobs is looking sickly (again). I've heard PC is deadly.
  15. Cool pix. I have not been to the rodeo in years even though mom lives about 2 miles from the Reliant Center complex.
  16. Wouldn't that be something. Don't forget the laurel leaves in the hair.
  17. As a current web professional involved in a site redesign, it is not as easy as just flipping a coin and going with a new design. There are a LOT of variables involved including benchmarking other sites, developing user path trends, navigational design, site design, perhaps even a review of a new content management system to manage the content, etc. They may have a new web site in the works, but the process could be taking a bit of time to get implemented.
  18. Yeah, I get their online daily. I like their polls.
  19. I'm gonna try to get down there too ... did I hear 6:30p?
  20. It officially opens this weekend right? I thought I heard something on KHOU morning news the other day.
  21. As I mentioned once before (I think in this thread) that the design is hideous.
  22. I do think that panhandling is different from homeless, although I guess one begets the other. I tend to rarely give money out on the streets. First off, it's dangerous. Secondly, I tend to contribute to a problem. Thirdly, I never really know if the money goes to helping them buy food or other needed items, drugs or drink (I always suspect the latter).
