    East River announces Kyuramen is coming to the Fifth Ward mixed-use development. An estimated opening date isn't included in CultureMap's reporting. The press release confirms the ramen restaurant will indeed be located at 2920 Riverby Rd, Suite 100, as speculated last month.     There is an architectural barriers project filing for 191 Heights Blvd. It was filed today with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR.) According to the filing, a Japanese restaurant called Kazan Ramen is leasing the space. 1751 Sea & Bar formerly occupied the unit at 191 Heights Blvd. The Sambrooks Management restaurant was located in the Washington Heights shopping center.     @editor maybe you aren't up on the latest dining trends, at least in different segments within the city's vast dining scene. I say this based off the many comments and complaints from you pertaining to restaurants and bars in the city, specifically those you claim to not understand. However, Victory is the latest in a growing trend of vibe dining spots popping up in Houston. Most restaurants billing themselves as vibe dining either offer hookah or don't. Also, most have a club atmosphere (Ciel, Bisou, Kiss, etc.) As for the vibe dining restaurants with hookah, they have a specific target demographic in mind. That demographic consists of customers in their 20's-40's who are usually either African-American (or of African descent) or Latino. Granted, casual Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants have been offering hookahs for some time. So, while you don't understand it (maybe because of your age and not being their target market), there are lots of younger Houstonians who do. The concept is popular enough here that these vibe dining spots with hookah are popping up almost every month around the Greater Houston area. Besides Victory, Ocean 12, which opened not too long ago in Montrose, has the same concept.

    In Houston Chronicle's reporting of Acme / Acme Oyster House's closure earlier this week, the publication notes this: "...the restaurant announced the closure was effective immediately, citing struggles in staffing, sourcing product and inflation. Additionally, it pointed to a stalled mixed-use development to the east that caused its hospitality neighbors to close in the past year." Houston Chronicle spoke with Acme's director of marketing Monique Ricci about the Houston closure. According to Ricci, "[Acme] wanted to come to Houston for more than 10 years before opening in 2021. They signed a lease for the space pre-pandemic, and had high hopes for what it would become as they had seen rendering for the mixed-use development. She said they expected the development to be further along than it is now, a blank concrete space."
