  1. Taste (Taste Bar + Kitchen) may be moving from 3015 Bagby. The house sitting on the property is known as the Sterling House. I think it's moving into Local Foods former ground floor space in the Byrd Building in downtown Houston, 420 Main St. Taste is (or was) being sued by its landlord Amir Ansari for a host of things including non-payment of rent, unauthorized construction, and poor upkeep. Taste owner Don Bowie and staff were locked out briefly earlier this year, according to documents submitted to Harris County court (Bowie is also being sued by investors of Rare, the steakhouse and lounge on Washington Avenue). The documents also disclosed Bowie's plan to relocate Taste. Documents from the lawsuit detailed conversations between Bowie and Ansari for a possible new concept at 3015 Bagby in place of Taste (this was prior to the lawsuit). Bowie was contemplating a lounge and hookah bar concept with a limited menu of Taste favorites. However, Ansari claims in the suit that he was fielding interest from other prospective tenants. So, I guess we'll find out what's replacing Taste soon. The lawsuit (and the Rare lawsuit) are definitely eye-opening.
  2. I haven't been downtown in awhile, so I don't know when Local Foods closed its downtown outpost at 420 Main St. It was closed during the height of the pandemic in 2020 with plans to reopen in 2021, but I don't know if that happened or not. Moving into Local Foods former ground floor space in the Byrd Building is neo-soul/Southern restaurant Taste (Taste Bar + Kitchen / Taste Kitchen + Bar). I think the restaurant from Don Bowie is relocating from Midtown, 3015 Bagby St (former Sterling House). Taste is (or was) being sued by its landlord Amir Ansari for a host of things and was locked out briefly earlier this year, according to documents submitted to Harris County court (Bowie is also being sued by investors of Rare, the steakhouse and lounge on Washington Avenue). The documents also disclosed Bowie's plan to relocate Taste.
  3. A preliminary site plan for Canopy on Washington, Oxberry Group's mixed-use at 3800 Washington Avenue. According to the site plan, Primeway Credit Union is staying on as a tenant. https://www.crexi.com/lease/properties/414119/california-canopy-washington Brochure: https://api-lease.crexi.com/assets/414119/flyer
  4. It looks like gym and fitness center chain Facet Seven is leasing a unit at the Docks at Timbergrove, the retail development from Ancoran at 2505 W 11th St. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2505-W-11th-St-Houston-TX/23271056 https://images1.loopnet.com/d2/O3H6_IKiGGlyGCpy42sH6ZsrF6YQ_DIA0Fuxkk-vd_o/11th Street Mixed Use Flyer Current.pdf
  5. Is Regine's still moving forward? I reached out to Lombardi Family Concepts several times since January for clarification. Around December, I heard their Lombardi's concept is opening in the Uptown Park development. I also saw listings for positions for Lombardi's in Houston around that time, however, a location was not provided. This week, a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration lists construction plans for Lombardi's at Uptown Park. There wasn't a suite number listed, so I don't know if it is replacing Regine's, which was originally planned for the former Tasting Room unit.
  6. Woodfire pizzeria restaurant Bollo is opening a takeout only location in Garden Oaks. According to What Now Houston, it will be located at Stomping Grounds. More details from the article: "A Bollo Woodfired Pizza is being planned for a space at 1223 W. 34th St., Ste. A200 in Houston...The new location will not have indoor dining, but customers can pick up their favorite pizza or have it delivered through a third-party delivery app." Possible opening timeline: "It could take a few months to get permitting and then a few more months for construction. Bollo on W. 34th could open by the end of 2022 or early 2023." https://whatnowhou.com/bollo-woodfired-pizza-opening-takeout-only-location
  7. And a GOOF (Garden Oaks Oak Forest) forum too. The forum could also include Independence Heights, Acres Home, and other neighborhoods in that area.
  8. I never dined or grabbed a drink there, but the Leader's coverage of neighbors' complaints against the bar was eye-opening. https://www.theleadernews.com/community/montie-beach-residents-battle-neighborhood-bar/article_f1d10c4c-10d6-11ec-9dbb-5b8cfbf5388b.html https://www.theleadernews.com/city_government/city-council-member-to-protest-local-bars-tabc-permit-renewal/article_656bb81a-31dd-11ec-b951-bf2af7f0d410.html
  9. An updated rendering of the Salty, the upscale Miami-based donut, coffee shop, and cafe opening next year at 1658 Westheimer Rd.
  10. Main Street Tap & Grill closed at 4002 N Main St (I think sometime this year). The property was for sale in October with an asking price of $2,200,000. Listing: https://www.crexi.com/properties/696807/texas-restaurant-building-for-sale-in-the-heights Flyer: Link The Meteor, a cafe from Austin, will operate its business on the property. The Meteor is an all-day cafe with a focus on Roman-style pizzas. It's also a coffee shop, wine bar, and bicycle shop. I think this will be well received, especially by residents living in close proximity. Previous tenant Main Street Tap & Grill was considered a nuisance for noise, trash, and violence, according to many in the neighborhood. More about the Meteor here: https://espressochampagnechainlube.com https://austin.eater.com/2019/10/4/20898840/the-meteor-cafe-natural-wine-bar-bike-shop-open-south-congress-austin-photos
  11. I can't recall all the businesses operating at 4002 N Main St, but in recent years the property was home to Skinny Rita's Grille, Stuttgarden Tavern, and Main Street Tap & Grill. 4002 N Main St, I think, is located in the Montie Beach neighborhood within the Greater Heights area.
  12. Local restaurateur Benjy Levit seems to have another dining concept in the works at the Village Common. A recently submitted alcohol permit indicates Levit is opening a restaurant possibly at 5117 Kelvin Dr, Ste 200. The business may be named Eautour. I think this will be located in the unit last occupied by Thai Spice. The Thai restaurant closed in January.
  13. The Village Common is a retail center in the Southampton neighborhood near Rice Village District. 2424 Dunstan Rd is the listed address for the center. It also borders Kelvin Dr and Morningside Dr. Current tenants include: LFM - Local Foods Market (2424 Dunstan Rd, Ste 125) The Owl (2424 Dunstan Rd, Ste 150) Woodallen Photography (5115 Kelvin Dr) Photo of the Village Common from 2019 at Kelvin Dr and Dunstan Rd. 14. I forgot to include this blurb here last week about EaDo Navigation at 2311 Canal St: Broham, the boutique grocer and market from chef Jonny Rhodes coming next year to the East River development at 100 Jensen, will temporarily operate at 2311 Canal in the coming months. More below: "Broham Fine Soul Food & Groceries...plans to open a temporary 1,270 square-foot location early fall in a nearby building owned by Midway at 2311 Canal Street. Once Phase One construction is complete, the self-sustainable boutique bodega will relocate to their permanent 4,000 square-foot space in The Depot (the ground level of the garage)." https://realtynewsreport.com/east-river-signs-retailers-to-redevelopment
  15. Fox 26 recently reported on the mural and forthcoming Austin's. This is the beer garden / bar & grill at 1221 W 20th St. Here is a photo taken of the site last week (from Fox 26): https://www.fox26houston.com/news/welcome-to-austin-mural-outside-upcoming-houston-heights-beer-garden
  16. I think an Egyptian dining concept is one of tenants for food hall Conservatory, located at the Crossing at Midtown, 606 Dennis St. A recent entity filing shows a concept possibly named Cairo Kitchen for Conservatory. Cairo Kitchen comes from chef Rafik who previously operated Torshi, an Egyptian dining concept at shuttered Rice Village food hall Politan Row.
  17. An update on Broham, the boutique grocer and market from chef Jonny Rhodes coming next year to the East River development at 100 Jensen: "Broham Fine Soul Food & Groceries...plans to open a temporary 1,270 square-foot location early fall in a nearby building owned by Midway at 2311 Canal Street. Once Phase One construction is complete, the self-sustainable boutique bodega will relocate to their permanent 4,000 square-foot space in The Depot (the ground level of the garage)." https://realtynewsreport.com/east-river-signs-retailers-to-redevelopment
  18. Midway formally announced El Condor and Tomi as recent tenants for the East River mixed use development. As noted in the quoted posts above from April, El Condor and Tomi leased units at East River earlier this year. Realty News Report has more about their locations in the development and estimated opening provided to them through a press release: El Condor "El Condor Coffee Roasters will open its first location in Texas and second in the country in the base of East River 1 (Building C), with convenient access to the office building’s lobby. The 1,500 square-foot space will feature an open-format layout, as well as an outdoor patio." Tomi "Tomi, a collection of jewelry designed in Houston and made in the USA and Italy, will debut its first brick-and-mortar store on the ground floor of The Laura apartment building." https://realtynewsreport.com/east-river-signs-retailers-to-redevelopment
  19. Agricole Hospitality officially announces their forthcoming bar concept EZ's Liquor Lounge. The bar replaces former Blue Line Bike Lab at 3302 White Oak Dr. EZ's Liquor Lounge is a partnership between former Anvil bartender Matt Tanner, according to CultureMap's reporting yesterday. From CultureMap: "The company originally leased the space in early 2019, but the pandemic pushed back the original timeline for opening. With the plans having received the necessary approvals from the city of Houston, EZ’s should open in August or September." https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/06-16-22-ezs-liquor-lounge-new-bar-the-heights-agricole-hospitality-morgan-weber-matt-tanner/
  20. Railway Heights updated its website sometime in the last few months. The site includes a site map with current dining, beverage, and retail tenants for the market and food hall portion. Among the dining tenants listed is a concept named Croff'd. Recent job listings for Croff'd indicate desserts will be served, mostly croffles (croissant waffles). https://www.railwayheights.com/coming-soon-01
  21. A new ice cream concept / food stall is opening soon at Railway Heights Market in the Railway Heights development, 8200 Washington Ave. According to What Now Houston, the ice cream shop is named IYKYK or IYKYK Ice Cream. I'm assuming this will replace Scoop, the craft ice cream shop that has a brick-and-mortar storefront in Webster. From the article: "Co-owner Daniel Chen is aiming to open IYKYK to the public sometime in mid-July at 8200 Washington Ave. in Houston." https://whatnowhou.com/new-ice-cream-concept-headed-to-houston
  22. Photos of the unit at 420 W 20th St, Suite A from the Leader. The forthcoming home for Jūn by KIN was previously occupied by Central City Co-op and Steel City Pops in recent years:
  23. The Leader confirmed Jūn by KIN leased the unit at 420 W 20th St, Suite A. Snippets from yesterday's article: "[Evelyn] Garcia and [Henry] Lu are aiming for a fall opening of Jūn in the former location of the Central City Co-op at 420 20th St. in the Heights..." "Lu is handling the business end, Garcia says, and he says their hoped-for fall opening is in the hands of permit- and license-issuers and suppliers." https://www.theleadernews.com/food_drink/almost-top-chef-garcia-brings-celebrity-new-asian-american-cuisine-to-heights/article_10ce1fa2-ede2-11ec-8e71-af5754b895a5.html
  24. Either Duo / Duo Coffee & Pilates is looking to lease, in negotiations, or has leased a unit at the Autry Park mixed-use development. Duo is a local business that doubles as a coffee shop and pilates studio. Their Autry Park outpost will be their second location. The first is located in the River Oaks area at 2147 WestheimerRd, Ste A.
