History certainly agrees with you as well. You make an enemy of the church and you make an enemy of a lot of people.

I would propose this. The city/midtown comes to the church and says "hey, why don't we pay you money for all of this parking, and in exchange we build you guys a beautiful new cathedral." Then they sell the parking lot space to developers for more residential / retail. That might be an interesting compromise.

Yeah, but the church presumably likes the parking lot, has owned it forever, and just had a huge sanctuary renovation project. So no one's going to bite at a new "cathedral."

I'm also sure the church isn't interested in allowing their parking lot to be used for unrestricted development.

I'm sure if it actually got to be an issue (and it hopefully will) there will be negotiations about putting up a parking structure in the lot or at least allowing outsiders to park in the lot.

Wahlburgers may open its Houston location at The Midtown by Caydon. I read in another online forum this is where it may open.

Maybe off topic but I noticed the lot north of Camden McGowen no longer is advertising that it needs a restaurant lessee. Was wondering if that might be the WB location.

I called and spoke to someone at the number.  They've just started the permitting process and are hoping it will be complete by about March 2019 so they can start construction.  Construction should take about 6-9 months once the permit is issued and construction begins.

    Haha you're awesome. Thanks!

I'm unfamiliar with City of Houston codes for permit types.  Is "PX" a type of construction permit?  Just trying to figure out what this signifies for the project.

Hey me too! I have no idea. I just know this is the first time I've seen a permit filed for "HEB-MACGREGOR" and I search the permitting site all the time.

Call the phone number on the permit and get back to me ;)

  5. Did they buy the Art Supply building? It's on the platting agenda this week as moving to Almeda and Oakdale.

    e. A down-sized version of The Art Supply at 2711 Main Street will be relocated to the proposed site resulting in a smaller area building, while maintaining the same mixture of uses of their current store, including art studios and living spaces. Like the current location on Main Street, they intend to create a building that will be attractive to those driving or walking.

    (5) Economic hardship is not the sole justification of the variance. Economic hardship is not the justification of this variance. The justification for this variance is the need and desire of the developers to provide a pedestrian, eyes-on-the-street, safe, and visually active addition to the Almeda corridor. The irony of this proposal is that the conditions at the current location on Main Street have created an economic hardship forcing the move from Main Street to this site on Almeda.
