Any readers here plan to be a regular here? Asking because I am near the new Washington Ave HEB and I plan to be there a lot.

I hope both do brisk business and prove this concept works in Houston.

The WF is closer to my house, but the new HEB on 288 will be on my route to/from work so I plan on utilizing it.

CultureMap speculates Home Slice Pizza may be eyeing another Midtown location near Mid-Main in Houston:

The eyes of Home Slice Pizza are on Midtown. The Austin-based pizza joint has filed a LLC with the State of Texas as the first step in opening a Houston location; however, the restaurant has not signed a lease for a specific space, a representative tells CultureMap.

Of course, the confirmation only means that the document discovered by a user on the Houston Architecture Info Forum isn't some elaborate hoax designed to prank UT alums. While the forum users speculated that the restaurant could open in the Mid Main development that includes Kura Revolving Sushi, Brass Tap, and Spicy Girl, the building appears to be almost fully leased.

On the other hand, the former T'afia/Sparrow Bar + Cookshop has been vacant since the Winbern Mess Hall closed last year. With two floors of seating, a shaded patio, and its own (limited) parking, the currently empty restaurant would seem to be an ideal fit for the acclaimed pizzeria.

Oh wow that space would be a great fit for them.

Another retail tenant for Central Square, 2100 Travis in Houston Midtown.

    From Eater Houston:

Bonchon, a beloved South Korean chain known for its crispy fried chicken, will open a location in Downtown Houston.

A representative for Bonchon tells Eater that the location is set to arrive at 2100 Travis Street, Suite 110 in the coming months.

An opening timeline for Bonchon’s Downtown debut has not been announced just yet, but expect it to arrive by the end of 2019.

I have driven past this site every morning going north on Bertner from O.S.T., for the past three years. The building has significantly changed the feel and the scale of this side of the bayou.

It also gives the existing boat shaped M.D. Anderson building some company and something to play off of.

    "One is the loneliest number"

It's close to being in my sightline when I'm sitting at my desk.

  5. This is really coming along and looks like it'll be great! But question. It's going to be mooning the north-bound freeway with the ugly rear side, and you can't really see it from the south bound side. What was the reasoning for having the main entrance facing away from traffic/the main feeder road? I can't think of another store like this (or I'm just not thinking very much or very hard).

Ralph interviews Joe Russo of Caydon. Phase II begins 1Q 2020. He says they have "Towers A and B worked up." Not sure if the current highrise is Tower A or if we are getting two more towers in Phase II. The weak Australian dollar is a headwind but not a serious problem.

The quote about Towers A and B is in response to a question about Laneways, so it certainly reads as though it's 2 more towers (he said optimistically)

I spoke to the people at the Dog Boarding/Training facility across the street and their realtor confirmed that a pizza place is going in at 2404 Austin.

This was on the Gypsy Poet Instagram story this morning:

Slow moving, but progress being made.

Little concerned about this one. The place looks dark and cleaned out, and we haven't heard anything from them in a while.

Also, there used to be signage for that gaming arena and now it's gone. I wonder what happened to this block.

I’ve been switching from Molina’s in Bellaire and Escalates in Meyerland.  Molina’s carries mole sauce which isn’t offered at your typical Tex-Mex.

On a strawberry margarita kick. Escalates uses strawberry purée

I love Molina's and it's my go-to, only because I was raised near the one on Westheimer. Also the vinegar salsa is my love jones.

I have a hard time convincing others that it's good though.

Sounds like negligence on both the part of the developer for not ensuring pedestrians have an alternate right-of-way as well as the city for allowing this to continue.

Reported this to 311. They forwarded to code enforcement. Doubt anything comes of it but hey what was ever wrong with complaining?

The plaza on McGowen is taking forever.  They finished the park 2 years ago now

I was just thinking that but didn't want to look for this thread :)

What is taking so long? What is it even supposed to look like?

Also any ledes on what the restaurant is? I saw something about Common Bond getting a midtown location, so I was curious if that might be it
