You mean, since Midtown didn't flood and all the apartments in Houston suddenly got leased afterward? I bet they wish it was already under construction.

The only way that Harvey could be a negative for upcoming developments in non-flooding areas is if construction prices go up due to the demand for skilled labor.

Haha fair. Leave me be with my pessimism.

In which HBJ makes this unfortunate error:

    Quote

In August, Current Standing Development sold a 41,000-square-foot site across from the new park to Caydon Property Group. The Melbourne, Austria-based developer will convert the space for an additional high-end residential, retail and large parking garage on the site.

When Rice Stadium built, not only was there no NFL team but UH had only been playing football for 2 seasons. Also, Rice was good.

In the 1940s, Rice won a Cotton Bowl and an Orange Bowl. Rice not only was in the SWC but they also played LSU every year and beat teams like Clemson, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and LSU.

And Rice is the only school to have played Alabama more than once and be undefeated....fun fact!

    Now back on topic. :)

So funny that Rice built such a huge stadium for a small school.

Rice used to regularly play UT, A&M, LSU, and Arkansas as part of the SWC, so it would regularly fill up. This is also due to there not being pro football in Houston when the stadium was built. It also hosted the Super Bowl in the 60's.

So now it doesn't make sense, but it was logical at the time.

Fun fact, all Rice alumni living or dead couldn't fill the stadium..or at least they told us that at orientation.

Speaking of residential, a development sign finally went up on the lot on the southeast corner of La Branch and Elgin.

UPDATE 7/19/17: Per the Houston Permitting site, 4 residents have building permits now (Assuming this is 3203-3211 La Branch).

UPDATE 7/20/17: But not sexy enough for a new post. They broke ground on this yesterday apparently.

I know this remains not sexy, but they've made a lot of progress on these homes in the last month, particularly in the last week. Just bringing it to attention as Harvey appears to have not slowed this construction. Much of the wood frame is already complete.

Beer Market should be open this week (if not already)

Holman Draft Hall building is going to look dramatically different from its former VRSI look. Lots of windows added to the building. Can't wait to see the finished product. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow...

I went to Beer Market Friday. It was great! Almost overwhelming with the number of both beers and TVs.

Contractor trailers are in place in the lot across from Weight & Measures. I talked to one of the workers and he said this project will kick off in the next month or so. Work will start on the HCC end of Caroline and progress toward Pierce.

Dirt is being moved on the lot down a block and across the street from this site (directly across from Weights & Measures). It's been used for an art installation for the past year or two, so I have no idea who owns the lot or what they might be doing. Anyone have insight?

I heard that that is where the construction workers for the Caroline redo are setting up camp. But I don't know much more than that. If this is the Caroline complete streets project, we sure haven't heard much about it in a while.
