  1. Missed this article the other day.  http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Houston-Community-College-moves-to-sell-land-7462165.php

    No new though, really:

    Quote

Another property the study recommends selling: a nine-acre plot at Texas 288 and MacGregor Way; the college is already working to sell it to the city. HCC has owned the MacGregor property twice and is now selling it for a second time. In the fifteen years since HCC first sold the property, the tract has bounced between multiple owners, and its price tag ballooned by 600 percent. City officials have said they want to lure an H-E-B store to the site using incentive funds intended to make fresh food available in neighborhoods where it is scarce.

edit: this was on the last plat agenda:

II. Establish a public hearing date of June 9, 2016 a. Blossom Hotel and Suites replat no 1 and extension

  3. So I used to live in the duplex 5 houses south of 1308 and left in October 2014 when the owners told me they were selling to Sunrise soon.  So I always check the demo report for an update on it.  Anyway, today's has the house right next door to 1308 being demoed (1317 Marconi), which of course HCAD has as owned by Sunrise.  Maybe this thing's a-brewin?

  4. Anyone remember anything about a sports lounge at 3704 Fannin?  I saw something called "The Vanderbilt" on swamplot from back in 2014, but I don't think anything ever happened (based on their facebook page last being updated in 2014).

Anyway, was searching the permit site (cuz ya know HAIF) and there was a permit sold for this address last week for a parking variance...use is "CNVERT REST TO CLUB / ADD 3RD FL 1-3-3-A"; owner listed as FAT property.

Idk.  Anyone seen any work here?

  5. I agree, but midtown is such an anomaly.  Honestly, I've attended the church across the street for 30 years (I'm 30), and I have never set foot in that Sears.  And I now live in midtown.

I'm not sure what kind of retail could replace it and Fiesta or what kind of retail would want to.

  6. Dear Students, Colleagues and Friends,

This is a defining moment in the history of UTHealth. At 10 a.m. this morning, the John P. McGovern Foundation announced a transformational $75 million gift to our Medical School and McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics. Through 14 separate endowments, this gift will help us bolster medical training, will provide full scholarships to outstanding students and will support scientific discovery and innovation.

The gift will also enhance programs at the McGovern Center, which was established in 2004 with another generous donation from the McGovern Foundation. Dr. McGovern embraced the philosophy of Sir William Osler, M.D., whose approach included patient-centered, compassionate care and appreciation of medical history and the humanities. The center serves all six of the university’s schools.

In honor of the largest gift in our history, and the principles modeled by this great physician and his wife, UTHealth Medical School will be renamed theJohn P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School. The formal short name will be the McGovern Medical School.
