  1. As long as they don't take the Japanese BBQ Gyu-Kaku or BBW spots I'm good. Now that I have both doses of the covid vaccine, Gyu-Kaku is one of the first places I used to frequent that I want to go back to.
  2. A New Pizzeria That Slings Pies Until 4 A.M. Will Open in Midtown Houston Dallas export Zalat is expected to make its debut this summer by Amy McCarthy Apr 19, 2021, 9:36am CDT Zalat, a rapidly growing, Dallas-born pizza chain known for its creatively topped pies, will soon arrive in Houston. The restaurant is set to open its doors at 510 Gray Street later this year, marking the chain’s first expansion out of DFW. “Houston was the most obvious choice for us,” founder Khanh Nguyen said in a statement. “We think many Houstonians love and appreciate great food that is served without pretense, and that’s exactly who we are.” Nguyen also has ties to Houston — he attended Klein Forest High School and the University of Houston before heading north to Dallas. As far as the pies are concerned, expect chewy, thin-crust pizzas topped with everything from classic pepperoni to elote-style corn, Nashville hot chicken, and pickles. There’s also a pho-inspired pie appropriately called the “Pho Shizzle.” Folks who dig dipping their pizza into ranch dressing should be especially excited — the restaurant’s “Srirancha,” a mix of sriracha and ranch, is a favorite among Zalat fans. Since it opened in 2015, Zalat has expanded from a stoner-friendly pizzeria to a major player in Dallas’s pizza scene, where it currently operates more than 10 locations. Whether or not it will have the same staying power as Cane Rosso, the Dallas-based pizzeria that opened in the Heights in 2016, remains to be seen. No official opening timeline has been announced just yet for Zalat’s debut in Houston, but expect it to arrive sometime this summer. Stay tuned for an opening date.
  3. I saw those pics. What could possibly cause this? To the untrained eye it looks like bad compaction, wrong type of stabilized soil or just shoddy work by the contractor. Who is responsible for fixing this?
  4. LWL Crane and Rigging out of Mansfield, Tx is erecting the tower crane. Strange looking boom sections, very tall. Asked truck drivers what kind of crane but they have zero clue.
  5. Tower crane is going up today. Summer St. eastbound lane is being torn up.
  6. It's actually a pretty fun event that has been held at Market Square Park for years. It usually draws pretty big crowds but I'm not sure how well it's gonna do at this new venue. Hope it does so good that they do it here every year though.
  7. Since my Bike Tag is the current one to find I get to ride more. Didn't start raining till the last mile of my ride.
  8. I wonder if sometime in the future, say maybe 30-40 years, people are going to date black brick usage as a 2020's architects' crutch that will date all the buildings using it?
  9. The parking lot was almost completely full by the Acme. No one on the outside patio though as it was kind of cool to be outside.
  10. Safeway Medical Supply is moving into the space next to Vooddo Doughnuts.
  11. The old railroad parking track is being backfilled for the future development of townhomes.
  12. The old Admiral Linen sites are being marketed by Transwestern.
  13. I hope like hell that this is not the final product for a sidewalk, it has just enough room for 1 person and looks to be about 30" wide. If someone were to encounter another person, someone is going to walk on the street or in the grass while trying not to get killed by a car. This is on the north side sidewalk on W. Dallas by the mid rise portion of the Hanover Autry Park.
  14. These white painted metal pipes and beams look to be part of the new atrium.
  15. These 2 Patrick Henry Creative Promotions train cars were stationed on a side track by the Amtrak Station. I had zero clue what they were till I got home and Googled their name. I wonder if any HAIF members have ever taken a tour on them? https://www.phcp.com/the-train/
