When Did The Cinema In Post Oak Mall Close?
EllenOlenska replied to IronTiger's topic in Bryan-College Station
I went to A&M in '08 through '11 and didn't know there ever had been one in the mall. -
Holiday/Days/Heaven On Earth Inn At 801 St. Joseph Pkwy.
EllenOlenska replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
I like it as is actually. And I'd rather it stay derelict and graffiti bespected than destroyed. It should be turned into a hotel. It would look clean with new glass and light fixtures. -
They must be pretty damned big, then.

I just jumped up and touched my ceiling pretty easily and I'm comfortable here. -

Drewery Place: Multifamily High-Rise At 2850 Fannin St.
EllenOlenska replied to Urbannizer's topic in Midtown
Okay, I was under the impression there were two Caydon. A beige affair and another facing it. Then there was news of these two towers connected by a sort of promenade. Does that bring it to four? Or does one tower cross over.- 1,569 replies

Was that from a Time's op-ed section? Was it a Brooks or Douthat suggesting Chicago was better when people rode to the opera in carriages and the proles had to go on foot so they couldn't catch the horses?

Shipping Container Homes
EllenOlenska replied to Jwalker14's topic in Architects, Developers, Builders, and Designs
I lived in container apartments in Huntsville. There were three different containers and the front and back walls were all glass. Here that all glass view is covered with plywood. -
Drewery Place: Multifamily High-Rise At 2850 Fannin St.
EllenOlenska replied to Urbannizer's topic in Midtown
Well, it seems like there are a large number of "plausible" looking towers proposed for midtown. They range from 100 feet to almost 700 feet. They have offices and residential. Some more and some less serious. I hope to see them all pop up.- 1,569 replies

There's a lot of interesting comments and great pictures on this thread, but every time I see someone remark on this my first thought is "is the glass box getting taller!"

Uptown Park: Shopping Center At 1121 Uptown Park Blvd.
EllenOlenska replied to Sunstar's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
As I was driving down 610 it occurred to me that the overhaul which would suit Uptown most (other than a damned train) is turning the malls into street grids. ...also, I want to raise the flag... -

I jog by a lot (and eat at the restaurants around it) and it seems like it'll be very handsome in the end. And pricey.

That's part of it, I don't remember when the rail opened and this tower was proposed, or the rail was proposed or anyone knew where it was going to be proposed. (Which begs political and legal questions, I suddenly realize.) And I'm not saying I don't like the idea. On the whole, I do. But a part of me is playing imaginary sims. The "concept" (as you put it well) by the soccer stadium or even along the rail on the UH side of 45. Tangent: The Gensler by Design crew has a supercool concept very near the soccer stadium title Loop 720.

I have a few questions and a few propositions on this one. But the simplest question would be why wasn't it planned right beside a rail stop.

I always thought the best thing about Uptown was the Four Leaf Plaza. Up with BRT ("clandestine rail") and down with the strip malls.

I get it, it'll be a mess. But there's never enough parks.
