  1. Scaffolding above the pedestal is now down. It's unfortunate how boring this looks; the only saving grace is half the block is empty and a better looking building could be built to block the view of this.
  2. But a different article posted elsewhere on this site (sorry, can't remember where I found it) said that downtown was still doing fairly well compared to the rest of the city.
  3. I wish they had covered it in concrete (even a thin layer) so it would have at least fit in with the Brutalist style of the rest of the building. But there's really not much they could have done to make it not look out of place.
  4. The noise will likely be closer to their other "home", that of 1060 West Addison.
  5. I don't know why that says it's appraised at $5.5m. Old data? HCAD puts the block at about $19m, but for some reason it's two separate records (one for lots 1-10 and 12 at $17,253,700 and one for lot 11 at $1,879,922): http://www.hcad.org/records/details.asp?crypt=%94%9A%B0%94%BFg%84%8D%80zlg%8El%87tXtaW%9E%99%A2%D3%89%95%C2e%7CU%8A%81%86%C0%AB%A8%AD%86%5E&bld=1&tab=2 http://www.hcad.org/records/details.asp?crypt=%94%9A%B0%94%BFg%84%8D%80zlg%8El%87tXuXW%9E%99%A2%D3%89%95%C2e%7CU%8A%81%86%C0%AB%A8%AD%86%5E&bld=1&tab=2 It even shows Theater Square as the owner of the block since 11/16/1999, so there's nothing new there.
  6. Looks like there was an accident here this morning. I hope the worker recovers! http://www.chron.com/houston/article/Worker-hurt-in-fall-from-crane-6551039.php
  7. A pity they are replacing the stone cornice with a plain painted styrofoam wall, but something obviously had to be done, and I guess the budget doesn't allow for it to be done right. Oh well; at least they are leaving open the possibility of restoring it properly in the future.
  8. Unsurprisingly, they seem to be picking up speed now.
  9. That ugly garage is the Houston Chronicle garage, which Hines just bought along with the Chronicle building with the intention of redevelopment, so hopefully!
  10. Yes, they were testing it a few weeks ago on about 2/3 of the building. Was hoping to get a photo when it was all up but I haven't seen it on in a while now. It looked very cool.
  11. Seriously? All that means is your boulder keeps ending up in the street when the truck hits it and you have to pay your landscaping guy to put it back in place again. I've never understood why places keep doing this.
  12. Unless they are doing 14'6" floor spacing like BG Group Place, this would have to be about 50 stories tall for this view to be right. It's right in line with the 40th or so story of BG Group Place here.
  13. Photo from last night. Lobby glass going up:
  14. It's incredible just how close these apartments are to the freeway (photo is from yesterday; progress is being made!):
  15. September 18. http://hinesarchitecturalforum.com/
  16. There's a photo on page 29 of the PDF linked above.
  17. FYI, Urbannizer, you linked directly to the current image so it will change every time this page is loaded. If you wanted to link to an image from a particular time, save it to something like imgur and link to that to ensure it never changes. Glad to see someone else is watching my camera!
  18. The awning is now gone: Lots of work still to do on the ground floor, but you can see a lot of the 100 year old details are still there in the ceiling:
  19. Great find! Here's a slightly better variation on link. I was confused by the last link because it skipped to the last slide and wasn't showing anything. This will start from the beginning: https://www.bisnow.com/houston/news/hotel/sneak-peek-into-aloft-downtown-conversion-48812?single-page
  20. They claimed they were 50% in January but I had a hard time believing that, too. I walked by it on Friday and saw they had made a lot of progress in getting the studs in for the walls on the lower floors, but that still leaves a lot to finish. I see absolutely no way they will complete this on schedule.
  21. The county building has been under renovation for at least 2 years now, with no visible progress. Hopefully it will eventually finish. I was inside it a few months ago to renew my registration and it didn't appear they had renovated anything in the lobby yet, either.
