  1. 1-3 tenants in/about to be in the market... looking to relocate from other downtown buildings?
  2. Dont you say that! Haha.. admittedly that mixed use development seemed really ambitious, but it seems like the developers behind the project were serious about it, given their submission of the plat, trying to work with the neighborhood association to address any issues, requesting abandonment with the city, and what not.
  3. I was just wondering about that development yesterday.. Has the Museum District Neighborhood Association(?) said anything further on plans for the development/abandoning Palm Street? fullsizeoutput_74a by Justin Anderson, on Flickr
  4. Ah. I thought it had already happened when I stumbled across the set up yesterday. The new garage below the Glassell.
  5. "Wrapped into The Huntington development fold"? So the owners of the Huntington bought this and plan to develop this into an additional component to go with their residential tower?
  6. I would be curious to see where Gerald said that.. Hines was building the 50 story One Shell Plaza in downtown at the same time as the Galleria.
  7. Haha.. I saw the back of one of the cranes at the hotel/residential tower barely peeking out behind the new Children's tower when I uploaded the picture to my computer, but I didn't figure that was obvious enough for most people to notice, so I didn't mention it. Good eye!
  8. Well, technically this thread is only for the Avenida Houston promenade, the convention center itself, and the GHP Building next door. Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites has its own thread on this forum, hence why it would be considered "off topic".. but im not trying to nit pick, was just trying to help you out. The discussion does often get side tracked into the other developments in the area though, since as you say, they are part of the overall Convention District.
  9. Construction from left to right: Texas Children's, Methodist, Memorial Hermann.
  10. Ah, I missed that.. was just trying to tie your post into this topic since the image of the mural you linked seemed off topic/is on the Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites building.
  11. He has a mural inside the convention center lobby, as part of their public art collection.
  12. The James Turrell tunnel? That's between the Beck building and the Weiss Law building.
  13. Theres a lumber yard north of i10 in the heights that has a big variety of specialty woods, etc.
  14. I may be making this up.. but isn't there an old hotel on the beltway by IAH with some sort of connector pedestrian bridge over the highway? I don't get on that side of town often but I remember reading a discussion about the hotel on here a few years ago.
  15. There's a much closer view of the excavation from the covered sidewalk area across from Franks/El where you can see behind the green fabric on a section of fence. I didn't think to take a picture though..
  16. I'm not sure I've seen the colored led roof outlines mentioned on this thread before. I was surprised to see that when driving by downtown the other night.. one building was lit red, the other in blue. Sorry for the terrible drive by picture.
  17. I don't mean to further sidetrack this thread.. but those LEDs are color changeable, to keep with the downtown lighting theme. Note the other blue building lighting.. I'm right there with you on including the whole crown though. I'm not sure why they didn't carry the led lighting down the full sides of the fins, where the mechanical floors are. Ah well.. Aria is looking great. The more it comes along, the more I appreciate how it's style is respectful to the surrounding Market Sqaure neighborhood.
  18. Did they ever release estimates from the visitor count over the Super Bowl Live event? They were originally anticipating close to a million people I believe, which is almost as many visitors as the park typically averages over the course of an entire year.
  19. Dear Students, Faculty and Staff, The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has informed the University of Houston that it will close a significant portion of Spur 5 northbound from the University of Houston campus to downtown destinations beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, March 3. It will be closed for the next seven to nine months. All traffic that travels Spur 5 northbound (the fully elevated portion from UH to downtown exits) will be immediately detoured to the Scott St. exit ramp. Drivers will loop around and turn right to access the I-45 northbound frontage road to reach downtown. Only the elevated portion of Spur 5 northbound to downtown destinations is affected in the first phase of the I-45 Northbound Direct Connector Project. Drivers will still be able to access the I-45 northbound lanes from Spur 5. Drivers traveling from UH to downtown are encouraged to find alternative routes and avoid Spur 5 northbound to downtown destinations. Additionally, all commuters should avoid the area of Scott St. at I-45 or expect delays. The work is part of the first phase of a construction project that will build a direct connector from I-45 north to I-69/US 59/SH 288 southbound and a second connector to I-69/US 59 northbound alleviating the bottleneck at the current I-45/US 59 split just south of downtown. Road construction is expected in this area until 2019. For more information visit www.houstontranstar.org for a complete list of closures related to this construction project. The University of Houston will post updates on construction as they become available at http://www.uh.edu/af-auxiliary-services/parking/parking-on-campus/traffic-alert/45-construction.php.
  20. I find this hard to believe... Beaver lives in the same neighborhood that my parents live in. He's not that rich.
  21. Why would they bring a separate crane in for the crown when they already have a tower crane..? Me thinks it's to dismantle the office tower crane?
  22. Interesting.. I didn't notice the sail silhouette. I wonder if they're still pushing for that office tower then? If so, that half of the block will likely be vacant for a few years at least.. I hoped they would try to land a high end hotel with condos on top. True on the developer wanting to keep their aesthetic options open. I mentioned the "blank slate" theory earlier in the week. Hopefully that's the case, but I agree that it would be nice to do something temporary to spruce it up in the meantime.
